  1. Keep to the topic and lay off the personal insults, even if nonsensical ones. Please.
  2. While I won't be playing TOR as I don't go for the whole paid subscriotion deal. It seems to me that having a plot focused MMO seems a contradiction in terms, at least as far the target audiences are concerned. They'll be trying to appeal to two pratically opposed groups of customers, and as such the chance of it falling on its ass is pretty high. Also, the Star Wars licence probably means that they'll want to position the game as a WoW killer, so the chance of not meeting that goal makes failure even more likely. It's kind of an all or nothing project, I think. The game either becomes a massive multimillion dollar hit or it barely even gets off the ground. Will you be working on it, Alan? Edit: Does the "thing" involve ballroom dancing?
  3. Your kidding right? Next-gen consoles can more than handle high detailed graphics as we have seen in many games like halo 3, call of duty, GTA IV. C'mon man be realistic. Im a gamer that looks for graphics and what this PC game is bringing is absolutly nothing compared to what the consoles can bring. Thats why the consoles were invented to bring gaming to life. That's either pretty trollish, or pretty ignorant.
  4. I wouldn't say Fallout 3 was a move forward. I'd call it a move sideways into Bioware and Obsidian territory. So I'd imagine ES V will be Oblivion, just as lifeless but a bit smaller, with less options and about the same number and type of fetch quests. I hope they'll pick up the ball again and move the open world type RPG forward, but I'll be really surprised if they do.
  5. You're not Jorian, are you?
  6. Thanks, man! @Baley: The Pogues are nice and all, but for working out??
  7. CoD4 was a very competent game. It didn't do anything new, it just did everything well. The combat was hectic and satisfying, set pieces well done, and the art direction did its job. I won't ever touch it again, but it achieves exactly what it was aiming for even if it wasn't aiming particularly high.
  8. KOTOR is the same game as BG2, just smaller, with less quests, much shallower and easier combat, and forced party members. People say Anomen is as annoying and poorly written as Carth. I don't know, however, because I wasn't forced to carry the stupid git around. Carth, on the other hand I'll never get rid of, short of a prefrontal lobotomy
  9. NOLF in particular. Apart from the cutscenes it's very much an improved, more varied HL1. It's much, much better than HL2. Far Cry has its faults but has much, much better combat. Does Undying count?
  10. What are you doing posting here while children are dying in Africa? Run to the airport and get on a plane to Biafra, now!!!!
  11. The pacing was pretty much perfect, you never did the same thing for to long(I agree about the driving sections being too long, though). As I said the storytelling style isn't for everyone, but what's wrong with the plot itself? You screw up, aliens come to earth then other aliens come and pretty much occupy earth, establish a totalitarian regime and drain earth's resources. People make a resistance movement and you'll become a part of it. He's already back in ep 2 (even the devs say it in the commentary), and why would he kick Gordon's ass? He is still G-Baby's subordinate, and didn't do anything "bad" per se. In EP2 you are still pretty much acting on your own. I mean he'll be back and at least attempt to put you back in the box. How is the pacing perfect? Some sections are just drawn on and on and on. "aliens come to earth then other aliens come and pretty much occupy earth, establish a totalitarian regime" My original reaction to that was "wat". Regarding the storytelling style, I would say it ins't really all that different, it's just like every other game, where the game stops to do exposition. The difference is that you control the camera during the cutscenes.
  12. No, just better plot and better combat and better pacing and better plot exposition. Edit: One thing that really bothers me about the linearity is how city 17 seems like a city but it never is. The introductory chase sequence is atrocious and pointless because of it.
  13. The game doesn't offer anything to compensate the linearity. Not combat, not plot, not anything.
  14. I found it to be a pretty bad FPS. The endless cutscenes pretending not to be cutscenes were a highlight in awfulness, and ditto for the vehicle sessions. The maps were very, very linear, the combat was dull. The only thing I really liked was the engine. Very pretty, very well optimized and physics. I didn't touch the episodes, for obvious reasons.
  15. I remember reading one online review at the time of release which said Daggerfall had awesome graphics. And it wasn't even that positive about the game. It was weird.
  16. hahahahahahahaha. Well, carrying on. KOTOR was a product specifically designed to get a bigger number of people than previous Bioware RPGs to part with their money. Just like TOR.
  17. Again, game content not awards is what matters.
  18. I beat it twice. Not a bad game. It is a watered down BG2, after all.
  19. How about discussing a game's merits based on its content instead of its awards? BG2 got plenty of awards, too. Best RPG of the year for about everyone.
  20. And KOTOR turned out a worse game than BG2 and it was a move by Bioware to just make more money. Do you see how the MMO naysayers are completely right, Alan? Well, do you?
