  1. They start off by saying that the community is divided between the hardcore and the causal. And then, basically they says that the hardcore players aren't enough to matter, and as such he'd rather lose those than "bifurcate the community" by offering both the matchmaking and the dedicated servers. Nevermind that he said first that the community was already divided to begin with. He even took the time to question the community's motives when complaining about this by saying they're actually just worried about the ad money. It takes a lot of gall to say something like this and of course, it's to be expected that the "journalist" who talked to the guy failed to call him on it. It's all about the spin.
  2. Stalker looked friggin awesome on release and it's still not too shabby today. With Stalker Complete it's still brilliantly pretty.
  3. More than likely it's the second option.
  4. I'm not sure how you got that from what I wrote, but I was talking about having a party of *insert # of Dragon Age party NPCS here* guys and gals duking it out against whatever the game throws at you. Assuming all the party NPCs are different and unique, as far as gameplay is concerned, this could allow for varied, interesting and challenging tactical combat.
  5. Yeah, but if you ever want to use one of those characters later you can't, because they suck. It's a necessary evil. The problem is that they hang around a magical camp forever without doing anything. It's retarded. If Bioware wants you to have the NPCs always following you around for story purposes, what would make sense would be for you to be able to have all the characters in the party at the same time, thus allowing for much more varied and interesting combat. Furthermore, it could turn the characters into something more than the typical spineless puppets, and it would allow for potentially awesome party banter. But, of course, Bioware aren't the self-proclaimed champions of storytelling in games or anything.
  6. My dad decided to cancel his Newsweek subscription. However, as they liked him so much, they decided to offer him a free subscription of the magazine until 2085. My dad will be 137 by the time the subscription ends.
  7. No problems whatsoever. Writing e-mails without a keyboard must be fun.
  8. So, macs are overpriced PCs, iPhones are overpriced, crappy smart phones, and iPods are overpriced, unflexible mp3 players. In general, Apple products are for people who don't know anything about what they're buying and are rich. Did I get all that right?
  9. You know Alan, that doesn't carry the same stigma as in earlier times. You can do it, no one will judge you except yourself and your loneliness.
  10. Well, they're not the same kind of game in sense that Dead Space's shooting is actually well designed, while RE's is not.
  11. Maybe the goal of the game designers wasn't to appeal to Average Joe. Not all games have to have mass appeal.
  12. Considering about every single RPG released in the past decade is stupidly easy, I'd appreciate if people stopped complaining about the game's difficulty. It's not like they don't have any options. Not every game has to appeal to the same people. In any case, I seriously doubt Dragon Age is any harder than, say, BG2.
  13. Well, obviously I'm not 100% sure, and there may be minor improvements to the code from game to game, but I'd be really surprised if they repeated the same work year in and year out. They probably just feel the new matchmaking system is a potentiallly excellent source of revenue and that dedicated servers would be taking away from that revenue. More control equals more money.
  14. Yes, but all the work has already been done previously. It's the same multiplayer game as before with the same net code.
  15. In any case, today, adding dedicated server support to a game must be free, especially if the last iteration of their game supported it.
  16. They are trying to turn the PC into as much of a console as possible. Also, I didn't say it's an evil secret scheme. They are just following the game plan they feel will allow them to be more commercially, successful. Other than piracy being a reason for anything, overall, I agree with you. My beef with them, is that they are trying to turn the PC into a closed system for gaming, which is more or less negating the point of PCs. I can certainly understand why they're doing it, but I don't really agree that it is the best way to be successful, and I jsut like the notion of open systems in general. It's the same reason why don't like the iPod, for example.
  17. So that they can slowly turn PC gamers into console gamers. Like by removing dedicated servers which not only turns the PC experience into a worse experience right off the bat, but also limits the ability of the players to run mods and custom maps in multiplayer. It's all about the long term consequences.
  18. They are not fighting piracy, they just want everyone playing on a console to maximize profits.
  19. What's the problem? Aiming is much, much easier with a mouse. Anyway, like RE4 the trick to RE5 gameplay is moving around. Regardless of the control method, all you need to do is not waste ammo. Keep shooting until some zombie is about to jump you, then move to a safe distance. Repeat forever and ever, until you realize the action gameplay is grounded in a design concept that is not only flawed, but utterly and completely retarded. It's repetitive, annoying, stupidly easy and immersion breaking. It's just shooting hordes of stationary targets in the face.
  20. So, the origins and levelling up work like Seiken Densetsu 3?
  21. It sounds a bit nutty in a paranoid way, but I'd call this a deliberate attack on PC gaming.
  22. I've never been to a LAN-party without Internet access. Have you? I have.
