  1. Iraq never devolved into civil war, unless you consider violence against an obvious American puppet regime to be "civil war." It is also not "better off," since the American empire has proven it shares that dictatorial quality of brutality and murder. The Soviet leaders suppressed reactionaries who were making running the Soviet state impossible or very difficult. Occasionally, things got out of hand and non-reactionary scum was killed. That is regrettable, but understandable. There is a very big difference between what the Soviet Union did (persecute class traitors, crypto-fascists and other reactionaries) and what right-wing authoritarian regimes did (kill any citizen preoccupied with civil rights). Huh, Stalin was a paranoid nutcase who sent people to the gulags for breathing the wrong way. Also, it was Soviet policy during WWII to kill off any Soviet citizens who survived German occupation on account of "treason". In any case, the Soviet Union was responsible for the "disappearance" of many millions of people.
  2. This is the sort of stuff on game development I'd like to see more often. Kudos to Avellone for doing this out of the kindness of his heart. I'd love to see a special edition of AP with this sort of detailed info on how the game was made.
  3. hahaha.
  4. The camerawork isn't too shabby, but that song is cringe-worthy. Is that the awful tune from the credits?
  5. You like Pidesco too, but that doesn't make it right. Still bitter, I see.
  6. A government where everybody knows your name?
  7. Considering its effect on user experience, Tactics really shouldn't be a skill. Obviously it should be an option outside the game. It really seems like a collective brain fart on the part of Bioware.
  8. Not in any objective sense.
  9. Show me a system of government that's right and I'll show you a person who's wrong.
  10. I'm not sure if I would call it ethnically mixed. They have loads of foreigners, but the majority of those are western Europeans, mostly Italians, Germans and Portuguese. Not exactly a melting pot of different ethnicities.
  11. The Swiss have always had a reputation for being xenophobes. Their neutrality comes from it.
  12. I mean how, for example, the city elf origin is designed with rogues in mind. Or how the human origin is designed for sword and shield warriors. If you want to play, for example, a dual wielding human warrior, one talent point becomes automatically useless. If you want to play a two handed warrior it makes no sense to be an elf or a human.
  13. Talk about idiotic.
  14. Why Alan, why did Bioware decide to make the origins so restrictive? It's like each origin was specifically designed for a single character build.
  15. The forced skills and talents in character creation are really annoying, and pointless too. Basically, if I start as a mage, I have one less skill point than with other characters.
  16. Hey, less Impulse Vs. Steam, more King Arthur. Has anyone bought it, already?
  17. Wat. Every single piece of land in the world has been stolen from someone, even if no one remembers anymore.
  18. Moved to the proper forum.
  19. Not a beer, a vodka shot.
  20. I'm playing on normal, and by the time I get to the second battle (that's a few seconds after the guy coming to fetch me), half the militia is already dying, including the mayor, and that's just with the first few undead. As there are still, what, 20 or 30 undead waiting to spawn after that, you can understand how I'm finding it impossible to keep anyone alive besides my own party. The battle is much, much easier with healing, though.
  21. Impulse has advantages, though, the most notable of which being not having to start Impulse to play a game. Also, it's much, much lighter Steam. Assuming the price for a game is the same on both platforms, it's better to get a game on Impulse than on Steam.
  22. So, with my most recent character I decided to go to Redcliffe right after Lothering. My main character is a warrior and Morrigan has only leveled up once (picked cone of cold). As such, I don't have any healing spells. How do I beat the night battle while keeping all the militia, including the mayor, from keeling over in a second? I managed to keep the knights from dying in the first sequence by engaging the undead as close to their spawn point, but in the battle in front of the chantry, when I get there the battle is already a confused mess without any way to keep the undead from reaching the militia.
  23. If they were doing that they would be winning. Also, by the way, apart from perfect counter intelligence work, genocide is about the only strategy that works against irregular forces, especially if those irregulars are all Shi'as.
  24. Apparently, King Arthur will come to other game sellers, including physical retailers. Just, not yet.
  25. Apparently, you have joined every forum on the interwebs.
