Don't JRPGs that buck a trend and try to do something new, usually get lambasted to hell and back, or fail commercially? Examples: Vagrant Story, FFVIII, FFXII. Also, the Codex tells me the hardcore Japanese are having a hissy fit over FFXIII being dumbed down.

Ok, focus on the weaker human units first, and attack one unit at a time. Use your strongest attacks. Reduce their numbers as quickly as possible. Yes, you can always leave and come back to grind a bit, but that battle should be beatable without any grinding.

I can't seem to recall whether I beat that battle by focusing on the minions first or on the boss, but it's one of the two. What's your army composition? Is it just Rush and Blocter? I can't believe I have forgotten how the game starts. I must have replayed the tutorial quests three or four times.

I think the obsession with the 360 gamepad is a Games for Windows thing. Yep: All references to common controller triggers and buttons must use the Xbox 360 names.

You can change the ingame prompts to the assigned keyboard keys or, apparently, whatever device you want. It correctly detected my XFX gamepad, for example. You can also change all the key settings and there are 3 or 4 key presets to choose from. This is no shoddy console port. In other words, check the settings menu before playing! Edit: I also declare my post to be more awesome than Deraldin's post, Salamando not withstanding.

I have NEVER played FF VIII and so far am enjoying it. I am NOT that far into it yet. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the card game (After I spent.... more hours than I will admit to on learning it.) The Junction system is.... interesting so far. Plot wise I've been enjoying the card game too much... perhaps tomorrow I shall advance with the story. I am honestly just playing this and looking at RPG mechanics in it that (from a game made in 1999) that are actually better than our "New S*^&" AAA RPG's, out now. The sheer fact you can COMPLETELY avoid all random encounters by walking on the road (In the beginning area) is..... mind boggling. A jRPG... with a no levelling area. *GASP*. If you love the card game, then use it to get spells to junction and try to get in fights as rarely as possible. You'll get a lot more enjoyment out of the game, that way. The one thing to be said for FFVIII is that its game systems allow for various ways to approach the gameplay. It's the only FF game that I've played that allows the player to avoid fighting and still have an effective party for the boss fights. It's very metagamey, though.

61GB. Like Enoch, I generally prefer to buy retail, as it is usually cheaper, but a some games went into the Steam folder, anyway. The Last Remnant and Empire are two of those.
