PLEASE make this game online
Horrorscope replied to XPerNX's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I've played IE/NWN games in coop but instead of saying it was a wonderful experience, that is where the Pause Base System sucked, it was barely ok. It was tedious to auto-pause every say 6 seconds, both parties made their calls and then unpause, rinse-repeat forever seemingly, the UI was a battle. However PoEt has imo superior pause mechanics now vs IE/NWN that I could see playing it Coop in a TB manner with certain settings set. The scripting AI in IE/NWN imo wasn't good enough for realtime in coop either. I'm not aware of another TB ISO CRPG other than D:OS, but I loved it and it was everything I expected (cleaned up the Coop storytelling mechanic) and is still better than PoEt's pseudo TB when using pause settings. Some complain "it's too slow", I say it is still a lot faster than table top and we love table, right? RIGHT? I don't think it will be happening here, but I am so open for TB Coop games. Why? Because that is bringing tabletop to the PC, something you think would have been one of the first things done and one of the most common. Strange how it all went down imo. -
Funny, you explain why it exists right above, to deal reduced damage.

"It's no mystery, its mostly CPU, RAM and the speed of your disk" And it doesn't matter if it is an entire area or a small little area, same speed. It is the game/engine, not peoples pc's for the most part. Something is off here, however doesn't seem like any improvements are coming here. And the save files aren't big at all.

Depending on what you are after here... the iemod has a toggle that allows you to sneak at full speed. I also been wanting to state a big thank you to devs, during one of the updates they added "Party Member Finishes Ability" to the Pause options. This is the one that I haven't seen in a Pause based game prior that thought it always needed. Now any time a skill is complete, game pauses, in the combat log you can see who and then give them their next command. If you are doing the default attack it won't stop. (I could still see a sub option underneath this to stop even then for total turn base stoppage) A minor way to improve this feature would be to also put focus automatically on that character, then I wouldn't have to read the combat log and click that character to give the next command. One last Pause suggestion is for an option to stop action each time a PC loses 25% endurance, so at 75%, 50% and 25% it would pause to alert you. Currently it only can stop at "Low Endurance" if you have that option checked. I could see more steps in this to pause. The pause everytime a PC is hit, is a bit too agressive. But the Party Member Finishes Ability option, total total winner, as good as I've imagined it for 15 years. Much better control if you're not a real-time player or someone that likes to play it differently on different playthroughs.

Because they were driven by huge sales, not just nice sales. Everything they did they felt they were improving this style, and sales matched that. Ass Effect and DA are all what they are from the old games and moving in their opinion the genre forward, through NWN, KOTOR etc. So they don't feel they abandoned it, they felt they continued to advance it. Like anything there are always some that like the original stuff and some that like the new thing. That said, the genre never deserved to die like it did, but it also showed how few developers there were out there and how the market was controlled by the big publishers. Since we have hundreds of independents now, these nice sale products are just fine. Ala where we are at today. Thank the likes of Steam or Unity, game changers. All said, I don't poo poo on some of the new things either, I like FPS view a lot to. There is a lot of good out there these days, the problem is time not quality for me. As I say elsewhere, if this scene continues to exist, I don't have to have another AAA game ever, I'll be fine.

What I do is make sure the game I'm buying matches what I want to play so I don't get stuck in these situations. That said, I am about precise story telling and as good as it is, there is room for improvement. I still want Lax'z 2-3 second transition times!!! I have stupid pc run by stupid person, getting stupid transition times.

PoE Sales?
Horrorscope replied to Palmtuna's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This makes no valid point. You're comparing recently released sequels to games that have cycled through numerous sales and bundles over the last two years. Last month you could pick up Blackguards 1 for something like $5. Both of the games came out well before D:OS and its numbers did business you can't just throw away because they don't match the point you're attempting to poorly make. Revisit it a year from now... these sequels aren't going to approach the original in sales. -
EI Mod and my opinions
Horrorscope replied to Mdalton31's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Just wanted to say thanks for making the mod. I have the game on not to update, because I rather have your mod working and wait for an update then have PoEt's update and your mod not working with latest version yet. Yes it is that good. And here is where you have the thank you post with the lousy "but you still had to ask for something, didn't you?" remark. If there is a way to turn off autosaves, that is about the only thing now that feels cumbersome to me in game. Transitions. And to Obsidian, if transition speed has anything to do with rumored "lots of sold junk" in vedors inventory, then have it go away after 24 hours or I'd even take a toggle to have it not be able to be bought back and never have them display what I sold them back for sale. Thanks again! -
when will 1.04 up for down?

Looks like for a while now, hope timely screenshot is appreciated.... -
Because when you make a game you want it to be masterfully designed. All games recently in this genre have had a lot of balance tweaks after release and a few are still working on final balances. IMO each one can point to the game had to ship and it didn't have 6 months of QA for balance. To think it isn't important is somewhat a slap in the face of gaming, be it cards, table top, sports etc. You want proper balance. This game will follow the same path as recent games in this genre has, why? Because it can use it. What I find is people fall in love with something and don't want change. For example there is a mod to set the balance changes back to original, which a few were grossly over-powered, over-powered means I have 7 skills, but why not always just use this special one here. I also feel most if not all are coming out easy, because time is short and they have to make sure people can beat it, slap some easy reasonable #'s, play it through, can do? Yes. Ship. So most balancing is not only between skills but to add a bit more difficulty. There are 4 difficulty settings, they should be what they say they are instead of 3 easy and one hard. This game is going to be 10 years old some day and you want the hardest settings hard when you're on your 10th play-through with optimal builds.

One friend who disliked Origins liked DA2 a lot better -- but that's because he doesn't really enjoy rpgs and preferred the streamlined, more action-y style. It's funny what one person can like and dislike. I have a weird trait it seems. I like DA2 over DAO. I thought DA2 with it scripts and how it played made a good action RPG, with very little pausing. Now for a person who loves pausing all the time, I can see why they didn't like DA2. However I go both ways (if not three ways on Sunday) I found DAO shallow for a pause all the time game and the looooong load times, we think we have it bad here in PoEt. I didn't hate it, just I felt it was over-rated. So ok DA2>DAO in my book. That said I love TB games and I am enjoying this one a lot to. So it's hard to totally explain likes and dislikes of a player. I seemingly like any style if they are done right. I have seemingly every well known TB game over the past 2 years and many under the radar one's, it is my single player past time genre. As for Joe liking Pillars, no surprise there. Liked D:OS to. I haven't watched any Joe streaming Pillars, but it was hard to watch him play D:OS, he was all thumbs. So what I'm hear to say, is I know how Joe played D:OS and would be very surprised to find out he ever really finished it. If D:OS is par for Joe, he's not in a great place to really give an authoritative review. But perhaps he did finish it, but it had to take him 150 hours how he played. Watching streamers, the bounce from game to game, I don't see them finishing a lot of them. They all promise big things, but they get bored, chase new games and dollars. Not blaming, just more sort of mentioning what I witness and feel.

1. IE mod allows for more zoom in. Combat I like .7 where games nearest is 1. 2. Like idea of buffs/debuffs separated, however as mentioned you can see all on tool-tip of character. 3. Damage #'s, they should never be on same row. As they happen they should always move down a row and then straddle left right in succession, would be easier to read. 4. Things like Blunderbuss in combat log don't show damage #'s just things like 1 hit, 2 graze, 1 crit, 1 miss. 5. No problem with options to remove effects on pause. 7. Another thing on IE mod I made the circles much fatter, easier to spot the flashing white/green circle when selected. 8. I think I would like big-head, again for spotting bunched up characters if it were 2x or 3x size, not 10x.

EI Mod and my opinions
Horrorscope replied to Mdalton31's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Looks like two new features as well: Fast Scouting mode and wait for it.... wait for it..... WALK MODE. For all the Walkers out there!!! -
Right and the designers of the game are releasing another patch, which will be the second time they've acknowledged there are some issue with save/load. Congrats on having a job, myself, Im an owner and just buy 5k alienware systems and dispose of them after a month because I feel my registry isn't as primo as it should be. Que internet Alienware hate, in 3...2...1... *I kid, I really just have a job to, pc's are clean and have save/loads that I feel could be faster.

I've taken all the lines from the game and put them into a document. When I get to a certain line, I tell MS Bob/Anna to read it, pure gold! I liked the idea a person laid out that some future world with some future game, simply give us a button to click and the community can make VO modules to stick into the game. It's a cool idea, probably will never see it, even though it can serve both customer and developer nicely.
