  1. I heard, L4D2 was fantastic anyway, recycling the same idea works when it's a good one. Beths idea of "good" is sandbox-games, which are dime a dozen these days. and apart from that Beth's games really don't have anything to offer. I think New Vegas is gonna be their "sleeper hit", because it improves on all aspects of F3's gameplay. and not because it's gonna be popular with the F3-fans crowd (which it certainly will)
  2. hahaha, wow 1/3 of subscribers out in an instant, nice move on the chinese government's part
  3. he is a comedian, he's funny to a degree, but that doesn't mean he's not making any valid points. everything he criticizes is really that bad. and there's really so many games on the market, that I'd rather trust his judgment and skip a few titles
  4. what's that massive crash between 2009 and 2010? what caused it? I don't remember anything about it in the news
  5. funny thing is, with the games I've played he always nails it right on the head, every time. that's gotta mean something he might be wrong, but it's usually "right" in my book, so I tend to trust him
  6. furthermore, animations is the last thing in a video game people should care about, graphics is second to last.
  7. by "hard" you mean, there's no way to save the game midway through the mission? like in NES games? I don't know a single "oldschool" person, who enjoys such an experience save for, maybe, AVGN. but he's obviously insane
  8. keep in mind, that Turbine switched from subscription to free-to-play. that's the only thing that kept DDO and LOTRO alive. they failed at attracting WoW players and making them change their attention from WoW, which is the whole point: devs should try less to take WoW's money in subscriptions, because that won't ever happen. instead they should keep trying to make the second best MMO game, which can be a substitute for WoW, whenever the servers are down, or people get tired of their guilds and raids. because there's not a lot of people who'd be willing to pay for 2 games.
  9. everyone I asked, do. and also there's that Yahtzee review which doesn't make it any better
  10. that's the whole point. WoW changed how developers understand "success". it used to be: wow, we have 200000 subscribers, we're a hit! and now it's: we need at least a million subscribers to break even, because we dumped 100 million dollars on this game already.
  11. I don't have anything against MMOs, South Korea is showing us how it's done every day making a game subscription-based - that's what kills MMOs
  12. I thought everyone hated Demon's Souls what's all this commotion around their next game?
  13. Beth just has to make a good combat system. I always thought of Elder Scrolls as being more of a hack'n'slash game than a RPG. If they make it somewhat similar to Severance, with different combos for different weapons, with a good spellcasting system, it'll be the best game for me, better than anything. a Diablo 3 killer I think this is what they should focus on. and leave the writing to people who are actually good at it
  14. of course they are, somebody has finally shown them how it should be done. I bet F4 from Beth will be a fest of recycled Obsidian ideas.
  15. yeah, I'm gonna do it, if they don't make a european client (move to NA, that is, not delete my system files)
  16. maybe so, but I still want to try it
  17. so, Vindictus got launched today, and apparently it's NA only anyone care to explain how to set up a proxy, so the game servers think, I'm from the US?
  18. gotta love the way Chris Avellone always has his eyebrows doing the ^^
  19. right, it was a PC demo, now I remember. the game got canned, yeah. maybe wiki is wrong about the dreamcast part edit: since we're talking vehicular combat, Bandits was a nice game for PCs, but I found it quite difficult. also, Rock n'Roll Racing 2: Red Asphalt for playstation (haven't played this one in a while).
  20. no, the one for PCs forgot to add that small detail. by the way, I just tried looking Gorkamorka games up, and there don't seem to be any. but I remember playing it, something is wrong here...
  21. the only trend I've noticed so far is that 15 years ago RTS games were really popular
  22. this one has it's wow-factor in place, but I'm sceptical as to how it will affect the gameplay. I can't imagine how many hours will players have to spend to perfect their timing and cutting angles in order to make the game actually look like a fencing sim (maybe it's not the deveolpers intention, but he did say the game was built around this technique). I just hope they can make it intuitive and fluid, maybe it will change hack and slash games (become the new "cover" )
  23. doesn't look like much anyway, I wanted to ask you all, how do you determine if the game is widely known or not? for example I've played most of the games that were mentioned here (maybe not full games every time but demos for sure). can't really say if the game was a success or not because back in the day there was no internet or gamer TV, just niche magazines. anyway, Beyond Oasis and Comix Zone were kinda cool for Genesis games. oh, and Gorkamorka was pretty sick too.
  24. I'd kill for a Ghost in the Shell action RPG (by Obsidian of course) written by mister Shirow himself
  25. and yeah, back in the day nobody called Diablo "action rpg", like Tale said, it was "rogue" which only goes to show how stupid can the whole genre distinction thing be
