Probably not, but will it be different enough? Nothing much to do now but wait and see. I think the community has made itself clear and there isn't a lot more to say. Yup, wait till clarification. I'm going out on a limp and predict most people will be satisfied by the idea. Then someone says something interpretable and we have another big discussion till the next clarification. I'm not the person you posted, but for me it's the same reason I post on other gaming forums, or on hockey forums. Not because I think I can sway the developers (or my favorite NHL team's GM) into doing things exactly how I want, but to discuss something I enjoy with people who also enjoy the same thing. Also, I post my ideas/thoughts on features for PE in hopes the devs might see them and say, "you know, that might work". But I don't post with the belief that they *will* react that way. I would say that in a Kickstarter project where there's a direct relation between our happiness and the amount of money Obsidian gets to make their game, the chances of them reacting are much higher. that's the problem. I don't want them to react too much to us. The simple fact is this: they know more about making games than we do. I want them to trust their own judgement over ours. I'm pretty sure they are capable of that. Feedback is important.- 661 replies

Overreaction theater!

And how do you figure we get the same system as DA/WOW/whatever? We have no idea how Obsidian is actually going to use the cooldowns or if its even the main gameplay mechanic regarding spells (which I seriously doubt). Don't get me wrong, you should make threads and voice your opinion/concerns. Just don't see all hell because of one little remark. This won't magically turn into DA/WOW. Have faith in Tim and Sawyer to do it right. I can explain that. As soon as anything remotely like DA/WOW/whatever is mentioned my alarm bells ring. And that's absolutly fine. Voice your concerns. That's actually really helpful, since we probably now get a clarification on that. Just don't assume a black and white scenario. That's rather unhelpful since too many emotions get mixed up too extreme. Wasted energy. -
F:NV used Level-Scaling Which brings us back to: We have no specifics on how exactly it's used and people are automatically assuming their worst nightmare here. Quoting this for the new page to let Gorth see it. It did? It sure fooled me. I found the deathclaws damn near invincible until I came back later. How was it implemented then (genuinely curious) as I felt it was more an "area" difficulty than meeting first whimpy deathclaws and then later deathclaws from hell in the same area. IIRC they are leveling in a certain range I think. They have minimum stats and maximum stats and depending on the player they vary within them. Something else too, but I don't recall what exactly.

You are certainly entitled to voice your opinion. And it's great (I don't agree really with the OP that much even though he probably meant to calm minds). Just don't overreact before we don't know how it actually works. Which we really, really don't. Expect for making assumptions and comparisons with games these people haven't even worked on. I have to say 3 things though: A: The hardcore audience disagrees a lot even about combat in older games. So, should Obsidian really copy 100%? B: Connected to A actually. Infinity engine games aren't really beloved because of their systems. In fact they are more heavily critizized than most other rpg combat systems. Especially on the codex. (Rightfully IMO, due to the problems arising translating D&D to RTWP) So, I don't really get your first point there. C It's Sawyer. He's not negative to taking parts of modern game design and you guys know that (and argued in the past about it). Yet, there was still the Deathclaw Quarry. Yet, there was still F:NV. What did you expect? -

Just don't get yourself too worked up. Considering the reaction we probably get a blog post by Sawyer, which explains/clarifies their ideas for the combat system. Though, the mechanics won't really be the same (though similiar) on account of this not being D&D and being designed for RTWP combat.- 661 replies

This thread has a LOT of pointless assumptions. We have no real reason so far to assume that the system is going to be entirly based on cooldowns nor that they are used WOW style. That's also not what I'm getting out of Josh's quotes.- 661 replies
