  1. Just downscope that ****er. You're developers, and there's likely stuff worth cutting in the designs anyway!
  2. Yes? I mean, I distinctly remember people being very vocal about Obsidian being too vague with their pitch, so I'm not sure on what basis people are arguing that Josh's design philosophy applied to the ruleset means they're getting duped out of their money. I mean, it's perfectly fine to disagree with the macro and micro details of PE's ruleset, lore, UI, etc. but it's clear that the team is striving to give an experience that is really close to the broad strokes of the Infinity Engine games and trying to provide the tactical combat, locations, memorable characters, etc. that they promised during the KS pitch. Plus, quite frankly, almost every Infinity Engine games was its own beast (they really are a spectrum from Icewind Dale to Planescape: Torment, and each also comes with its own unique tweaks) and almost every backer has a different perspective on what made those games great or, in other words, IE-y. To give a very personal perspective, I'd have been perfectly happy if Obsidian ditched real-time-with-pause combat to go with turn-based combat along the lines of ToEE, which also would have had the side-effects of making the encounter design lean on the less massive and frantic. Clearly, though, both Obsidian and a large chunk (the majority, I'd guess?) of the backers feel that would stray from the spirit of the Infinity Engine titles, and didn't even consider that option. I mean, come on, there are decision I find highly questionable (no-miss still puzzles me to this day) and others that I'm iffy about but I'm waiting to see the implementation, but this is the same team that is aiming for battles of the same size of the Infinity Engine titles because putting too many enemies on screen would stray from that legacy. You can disagree with the choices, but I don't really think there's any reason to assume bad faith. EDIT: I'm kind of tired and haven't really re-read my message so expect typos. Apologies.
  3. Your friend is super lucky. There are people who had to pay $5000 to get an Inn named after them in this game. But your friend gets an entire Bay area named after him free! Or.... ...does he?
  4. Go here for inXile's Wasteland/Wasteland 2 forums.
  5. Or, you could have clicked on "originalgröße anzeigen" at the link.
  6. Maria Caliban is indeed the first woman pope.
  7. Hey Josh, since everything you guys are creating is 2d, what's the target size for your character models as far as poly count or screen size, or for the art assets in general and what dictates that limitation? The character models are actually 3d models, not sprites.
  8. Eurogamer has just published an article-style interview with Chris Avellone based on a Q&A with him they had at Rezzed. A few quotable snippets on Aliens: Crucible, given many here still mourn the project's cancellation: Also deals with Dwarves, Project North Carolina, the future of the company, publishers' interest in old-school RPGs and all the usual Avellonian stuff.
  9. I don't think that's ever been Avellone's point though. He's been going for a good couple of years about how he thinks that a narrative designer should know when to step back and just let the players build their own stories with the game systems. I'd also note that as much as he insists on that, Obsidian still tries to also supply strong stories with choices and consequences in addition to that, and have often been more successful at that than actually providing a playground of game systems/rules. Or, basically, it's not the first time a panelist's point comes off as stronger and more absolutist when giving a panel than when actually working. If I had to guess, we will never see an FTL from Obsidian, but new titles will probably be closer to New Vegas in story/gameplay balance than Torment. * * I went a bit off the tangent and that's not necessarily what you were talking about, so sorry about that.
  10. Are you using the term "growing" figuratively or is there something we don't know about their techniques to build architectural structures?
  11. I don't have any problem with Darcozzi paladins, though I can see why a native Italian speaker could find it silly sounding due to associations. At least they're not Fantozzi paladini!
  12. Looking good, although checking some of the pictures at the original size makes it kinda obvious that the pic weren't really meant to go online (some are really pixelated and a couple are obviously WIP.. the dwarf is very brightly lit compared to the environment, and I really doubt Obsidian's artist sat there looking at that and thought "good enough!"). This is probably my favorite.
  13. Did you miss the part where they explain that an animat is created by binding a soul to an armor? How is that "tech magic"?
  14. Well, I had already watched Chris' presentation so for me this update was absolutely useless. Good to know that we're going to hear something about the vertical slice and the fulfillment system in the next weeks, though.
  15. It makes me feel guilty because I always forget to like good posts
  16. They've only announced PS3, Xbox 360 and PC as of now.
  17. So then it's basically like Amalur, but instead of just mashing one random button, you have a series of buttons? That and it seems to occur for every kill rather than special one/moves like Amalur. I'm more inclined to let this stuff slide if it's rare and on top of good gameplay (see Bayonetta).
  18. Apparently the rep did a bad job explaining Kotaku how the system works: those QTEs are finishers that give you extra experience/bonuses, and you can fail them, though it won't impact whether you kill the enemies. Source: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/12/the-brutal-proactive-combat-of-ryse-son-of-rome/ The game still looks awful in everything but graphics though.
  19. That sounds extremely unlikely.
  20. Except I've never seen anyone seriously advocating for that.
  21. Fable Heroes was released after Molyneux left, same with Fable: The Journey.
  22. There's gong to be a Fable 4? May have jumped the gun. There was an image showing a bunch of the games supposedly to be announced for Xbone and about half in the image have been announced since it leaked. Fable 4 wsas one of them. Enough rumors have been circulating about Fable IV, and Lionhead has confirmed they're working on *something*, so it's not a wild guess ot assume it will be announced eventually. Right now it's just a rumor tho'.
  23. Doesn't seem like a good example to me at all, given the different style of combat and gameplay. Despite some visual similarities, in terms of actual character progression and handling of the combat encounters, action-RPGs and IE-style RTwP titles never felt too similar, at least to me. Anyway, this seems like a pointless discussion given that the devs have already confirmed that combat log will be in but can be disabled, so both groups of players can play the game to their preference.
  24. Glad to hear that!
