  1. This latest chapter has me hating GG, really they are becoming the next wave of SJWs (albeit a bit more argumentative). It is getting to the point where the bad seems to be outweighing the good and I'm almost ready to drop it.
  2. The point I tried to make was that their training seems less focused on diffusing situations rather than responding with full force. There's a world of difference with making mistakes while doing your job and having been trained wrong. @Hurlshot: While I'm all for freedom of speech I can understand why a police department might not want to be associated with them, still the problem should be handled at a Federal level (which my conspiracy sense tells me that its the whole point of publicizing these transgressions) Edit: I just realized that that last part could be misinterpreted to mean that the racist's cop case should be handled at a federal level. I meant to say that the police brutality and investigations into police corruption should be handled at a federal level rather than by IA.
  3. All i know is that training and experience help to push through, however, some people can't comprehend that, thinking that its just about being decent. That despite the well known fact that policing is high stress job with a lot of ambiguity in work encounters. And statics showing that cops have higher rate of mental and physical issues like: blood pressure and related problems, PTSD, depression, etc I might be optimistic but I doubt there are a lot of toddlers and pregnant women shooting cops. There are a lot of situations that don't require using your gun, quite frankly all you shown is that they need better training that doesn't focus on using guns.
  4. How could it be prevented from growing when government tend to be self regulatory? We vote these people into office over and over again. A decent start would be to clean house. Funny how despite being against the state the solution seems to be to purge the state and establish another one. Like a smoker that quits and then starts overeating. Also, I doubt anyone that finds the current status quo favorable will be keen to have it change and people who want change are not willing to take the level of measures necessary to enact change. No, this is their win as everyone who goes against them within the constrains of system is engaged in a Sisyphean task. The most enduring solution would be to crush the mountain and enjoy whatever you can before it grows again, rather than to push that rock uphill.
  5. I recall some controversial training targets that had "unconventional" assailants, pregnant women, children, etc. etc. Unless you're policing a war zone where children carry grenades and commit suicide bombings I can't really understand the need to be prepared to shoot them. I wonder how much of the stress is just anxiety over perceived dangers rather than real ones.
  6. I agree but it seems like these consequences aren't enough to give them pause and think before they act.

  8. Point 2 - maybe, although I am happy that there are review boards, that deal with such things in a non black and white manner. Edit: btw in my experience, frontal service was by far easier.. I'm not making generalizations, the lack of self policing and poor culture within police department is the main cause of brutality incidents. It is a problem with the Department not with every cop. The thing is that I don't believe that there is anything in place that passes as a consequence for cops, on the other hand there some clear predatory practices such as establishing quotas.
  9. You really underestimate the power of guerrilla warfare, while your point still stands the could cripple the Southern Lands economically (Although I doubt they had the presence of mind to stick to guerrilla tactics)
  10. I hope you aren't asserting that anyone here advocate otherwise... as oppose to getting annoyed at usual crowd that get excited by such vids, building a mountain from a mice.. Also I remember a great office, fun team, great benefits (we even company vacations out of the country), breaks air conditioning, car pool at night, advancement opportunities etc... It certainly beats working alone, outside in the heat, with potential danger, with many loud mouth jerks whose first instinct is to claim ignorance or plain out lie to avoid a fine (using the same excuses), maybe get featured on camera (hopefully you are not camera shy), likely get dragged to court few times, and get less than half the pay... Don't you think that sometimes it is easier to be polite and decent? ( Btw, I brought that example only because I thought that sharp one will be more familiar with white color jobs, I can give less savory one I had to go through to finance uni.) So you had it easy as a customer service, that certainly isn't true for everyone and certainly not true of people who have to face angry customer face to face. But if your point is to make excuses as to why cops can be allowed to be rude since their job is hard then I would point out that there is no reason to for them to make their job harder by taking an antagonistic stance. When a customer comes to you with a problem the proper course of action is to work together so that you can solve their problem to the best of their satisfaction. While there are certainly customers that are a handful you shouldn't take it out on the next one. Cops really have no excuse for ****ing up their job royally other than incompetence and if their Department allows it then it is a big problem. I certainly get pissed that my tax dollars are going to fund thugs that will harass me, it's like school all over again except the bully taking my lunch money now has a gun and a badge.
  11. And I remember that I couldn't tell a customer to **** off or else they will call for my supervisor/manager whom would surely fire me. I think that customer service would be more hostile towards the customer were there no consequences.
  12. Found out that Nikita (Alberta Watson) is dead. Bit sad.
  13. Sensible is not making a fuss over every offense, I don't sensible solutions work with the mentally ill. Quite frankly, I'm still wishing that the world will collectively tell these people to go **** themselves so we can regain some semblance of sanity where not everything has to be looked through the lens of an alternative value system. But every time they do this more people back down due to the pressure and lend their value system more credence, yet their every victory has the taint of the means they used to achieve it. Now I can't stop making everything political, they make gender and sexual orientation as divisive as left and right wing politics are. These people should not be listened to, they should just be ignored. Edit: not by us mind you, but by the people they are trying to bully into changing.
  14. I still haven't gotten to defiance Bay, i'm hoping the story will pick up from there as so far I haven't really been drawn by anything.
  15. The man is paid to make Monsanto look good, not drinking it and getting angry plus walking out doesn't look good. Of course he could just be bad at his job, and Monsanto really just made and passed that bill that safeguards them against repercussions due to ****ing everyone just as a precaution. Doesn't mean that they will **** up everyone, just that they're concerned they might. Just like a Captain that seems nervous when he forces everyone to take swimming lessons.
  16. I was playing PoE but then I decided to redo my character and start from the beginning and then realize that the appearance I chose and the portrait don't match. Now I'm in Photoshop doing a custom portrait of my next character who looks a lot like Ragnar the Red, except that he's an elf...a Pale elf.
  17. Sound familiar? The Frankfurt school has been a part of GG forays into the beginnings of Cultural Marxism and how hipsters seem to follow its trend. But really it's all tangentially related to the main problem of corruption and the ideological takeover of indie development. Interesting article though
  18. So far Hispanic characters in Video Games have generally speaking no depth besides an accent, it generally means nothing to me other than needing subtitles. My point is that storytelling in games is still very underdeveloped they haven't nailed down presentation yet. It is difficult to get any character depth and to add themes in a meaningful way that it is congruent with gameplay mechanics. So it makes no difference to me whether I play as white cardboard cut out or a black cardboard cut out, I think that's a graver issue that impedes any meaningful representation that minorities might hope to have. On the other hand, maybe I prefer to play as white guy and my choice shouldn't be demonized by zealots. The reality is that the snow white people that claim to want inclusivity have **** all in depth knowledge of other cultures and just hold to the notion that if it isn't white its nice. They say they want inclusivity but for all they know we already have it as games could be realistically depicting minorities and they would still complain because they don't like the reality. Any meaningful change will come from growth of and within the industry and the facilitation of game production and creating better tools (another grave issue that impedes any meaningful representation) as it will naturally become a more diverse industry. Maybe then we won't have to tolerate the yelps of white guilt from whiny entitled snots whom want things to change but don't contribute any action towards it or worse, fight against it.
  19. I think they just decided that paying lip service was better than being confrontational, a lot of people just make that one tiny change just to get them off their back. Quite frankly I don't think that Obsidian cares about political views as much as having good quality, so when they do inclusive things is because they thought it was a good idea. Which is probably why Obsidian's gay characters in NV are liked and Bio's pandering is torn down, as the latter is a very see through attempt. Well you may see the changes as insignificant but I think for minority groups they matter. For example in PoE we see African American races that have been very well received. Well, as the one from a minority group I can tell you that no self respecting human being likes lip service or pandering. Its like being given scraps from the table after asking to have a seat. Diversity in RPGs works because it lets players craft their character's background to suit their likes, but I don't expect them to be an in depth story about race, race relations and politics. Quite frankly, if someone is so immature that they can't play a game or relate to a character because of skin color then it's their loss. I pity anyone that hasn't played Portal just because of a female main character. So it's a moot point to dwell on race, to try and force people to write stories of and from an ethnic group that isn't theirs and that they have no appreciation for. All just because some believe that its somehow moral to push false equality onto others. @Barothmuk: That's the same Josh Swayer that defended Obsidian's use of rape in Fallout New Vegas.

  21. So the case regarding Prince Andrew is just a hoax?
  22. Have a feeling it will sell pretty well regardless. Hype, perhaps. Nope, it's selling terribly.
