Woman getting raped in an alley is more akin to an invasion of one country by another. The proper analogue for a civil war would be a woman coerced to non-consensual sex by her husband in their home. Are you going to break in their house and beat up the husband? You may choose to do just that, but it's also perfectly legit for others to think it's none of their business.

The junk bag idea is so clever yet so simple. I wonder why it's not standard in RPGs.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced
Masterfade replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
Nice, guess I'll be one of those confused turtles then. -
They didn't. They only publish Prey 2. Prey 2 will not use idTech5. Why not? quote from Peter Hines "This game has been in development for quite a while and id Tech 5 is still in progress (until Rage ships, and probably even after). So it really wasn't an option" I guess this means whatever Arkane Studios is making, it will also not use idTech5, since they'd already started working on the project for a while when they were acquired last year.

whennextgen? speculation and question

4k? a lot of people can't even tell the difference between 720p and 1080p from the normal viewing distance. I see a lot more benefits from 120hz frame rates than from 4k resolution. -
HoMM3, although I'm very fond of the first HoMM as well.

I must be the only one who likes the art style, but then again I dig WoW's looks as well despite its criminally outdated engine.

Andreas Scholl - the Voice Nanci Griffith - Other Voices, Other Rooms Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha Pablo Casals - Bach Cello Suites Heifetz & Reiner - Brahms & Tchaikovsky Violin Concertos Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks Arthur Grumiaux - Bach Violin Concertos Ani DiFranco - Canon Admittedly picking 8 discs is very difficult for someone like me who buy over 20 cds per month on average. I'll probably give an entire different selection today if the weather here is less gloomy.

I'm amused at how quickly the prevailing opinion on the interwebz went from 'the texture, the shadows and every other parts of the graphics sux' (first batch of HD screens released) to 'BS this can't be 360 footage' (ingame trailer released). Anyway I do find the walking animation to be a bit stiff, running is much improved though.

Agreed. What they should do is to give every citizen a free WoW account. Or copies of Japanese ero games. The crowd will be off the street in no time.

Yeah the autumn forest looks stunning. In fact I like all three new environment shots. I grew up in a town with cloudy, snowy winter and I can't help but wonder if people calling for more 'pronounced' shadows and lighting lives on a tropical resort island.

I'm not sure about the 'yeti' shot (it's a troll btw). Doing a side by side comparison with an Oblivion troll, I find the Skyrim version looks decidedly superior http://www.gamereactor.eu/media/59/elderscrolls5_235971b.jpg vs http://chorrol.com/files/50/obliv20B.jpg To me Oblivion graphics always has this very cartoony look, possibly due to its bloom overdose. Skyrim is a step up in realism.

Perhaps it won't be "oblivion 2". Doesn't he work at bethesda? Why wouldn't his stuff be there? I think MK left Bethesda before they started developing Oblivion. He still work with Beth as a contract writer from time to time though, and I do hope to see more of his stuff in Skyrim.

http://www.gamereactor.eu/news/6386/Six+ne...s+Skyrim+shots/ Six old screenshots in 720p. The resolution implies it's taken from a console build, and I think they all looks real good (for current gen consoles). Don't know how a lot of ppl on Beth forum can call these screens 'Oblivion with shadows'. Their memory must be clouded by zillions of graphics mod they have on their computers.

Can't believe no one asked about the alleged non-existence of attributes. When they were asking the first question and said it's something everyone's dying to know I thought it's going to be attributes, but they asked about spears instead.

Eastern European RPGs - which is the least horrible?
Masterfade replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
You could have said 'Euro RPGs sans Fable' and save a lot of trouble. -
I was using ZoneAlarm before I decided the Windows Firewall coupled with a router is all I really need.

Early this year a guy in Britain complained about delays at an airport on Twitter and basically tweeted he'll bomb the airport if things don't get sorted out. British police arrested him and fined him a huge sum for making 'terrorist threat'. He lost his jobs for that too, twice. Similarly, this year a Chinese physics student in the U.S had a heated argument with his professor and yelled he'll burn the labs down. He also got arrested for making terrorist threat and could potentially serve jail time in the U.S if he didn't manage to flee back to China. In both cases the defendants argued they're only employing a figure of speech, but police disagreed. In this latest case in China, someone made a tweet asking people to smack down Japanese pavilion in the Shanghai expo, and this girl retweeted and urged people to charge on. Whether it's a joke or represents a terrorist threat is for the police and the legal system to decide. It's unprofessional for the media to simply dismiss it as a joke without presenting the view took by the police. But, hey, it's some country far away in Asia. So such sloppy journalism is to be expected.

Pakistan's ISI major supporter of Afghan Taliban
Masterfade replied to Wrath of Dagon's topic in Way Off-Topic
Ain't that the truth. Hmm...That doesn't sound too bad. If people on the ground think U.S. is so useless that they can ignore it, they sure wouldn't mind if the American pulls out tomorrow, right? -
I remember reading a report a few weeks back about a Russian investigation on the sinking. At that time they've just finished examining the evidence and promised to release their final report soon. I've never heard of this investigation since. As Russian has very close relationship with North Korea and Putin no doubt would never miss a chance to embarrass Washington, I think it's fair to assume they have not managed to find anything strong to dispute results of the South Korean investigation. As for the supposed 'tension', it's should be clear now NK is a master of brinkmanship and nothing more. One has to wonder why the mainstream press still bother to report whatever hate speech NK is dashing out. The NK problem is going nowhere. North Korea might look mad but Mr.Kim is not stupid. And it will not carry out any of its threats. The South Korean ruling party just suffered a major setback in their mid-term election, which was widely interpreted as a public rebut of its hardline policy toward the North. And the average South Koreans, as far as I know and sadly there's very little coverage on South Korean politics in the international press, do not consider the NK nuclear weapon as a threat to them, especially the younger generation who haven't been through the Korean War. Japan of course has such concern, but if some hastily decided US preemptive invasion lead to a nuclear tipped missile hitting Tokyo that would probably be the end of US-Japan alliance. China currently has no choice but to support NK in order keep the regime from collapse and flooding its border with refugees. A flood of millions or at least hundreds of thousands of North Korean refugees, of which many will be former soldiers of NK's one million strong standing army armed with AK47 and other weapons, will make the boat people problem here in Australia or U.S. Mexico border problem looks like daily chores. U.S. has no real leverage over NK. It can invade NK, and that's about all it can do. And if anything goes wrong with an invasion you can bet all American allies and rivals in the region will blame the U.S. for it. Afterall, despite decades of NK fear mongering it hasn't really caused that much damage to its neighbors. A SK airliner bombed by NK agents, a few Japanese kidnapped and a few Chinese banks robbed by NK soldiers, none of them is comparable to the harm a war can bring to the neighborhood. So there will be a few naval exercises with zero follow-up actions. Then everyone will go back to their daily routine pretending the problem doesn't exist. Meanwhile tens of thousand of North Korean, if not more, will be tortured, killed or starved to death by the regime. It has been reported by the SK press that Kim Jong-il has at most three more years to live and he's depressed and often cries in the night. All the outside world can hope is whoever the successor to Mr.Kim may be, he will have a bit more sense than the current Dear Leader.

I think I'm addicted to buying $5 games on Steam that I know I'll probably never have the time to play.
-
Well, I would prefer that's the case, but no, North Korea TV viewers see World Cup loss live. I'm actually fearing for the safety of the North Korean team once they return home. Such a devastating defeat after being given guidance by the great Dear Leader via invisible cellphone will sure make the Dear Leader turn red.

According to the 2010 Global Peace Index ranking, released a few days ago: http://www.visionofhumanity.org/gpi-data/#/2010/scor 80th peaceful country (out of 149):China 85th:US 139th:North Korea 144th:Israel Hmm...#US - #China=#Israel - #North Korea. I'm sure there're other interesting numerological facts.
