Why do people keep discussing things with Volourn? He's been caught lying over and over and never adds anything constructive (unless you count lies as being constructive) to any discussion.. And when you catch him lying he just keeps crying about how he doesn't need to prove anything to anyone (because mommy said so!). Why bother? Somewhat on topic: Why isn't it possible to edit polls after they've been posted? Couldn't you just wipe the current poll result and start anew whenever someone edits a poll (by adding more options for example)? This thread could have been a lot more interesting with a few more voting options. At least an "other" option!

Yeah, if it's an american doing the twisting of the news it's called "an analyst". If it's A DANGEROUS (probably terrorist, they all are) FOREIGNER doing it it's called propaganda.

Gothic! Of course, you have a pre-made character in that game too, but since noone knows his history or his name it's not quite the same thing.

I just wish EA would start selling updated rosters for their NHL games every year, instead of making everyone pay full price for a new game that's exactly the same game as last year.. but with updated rosters (and a few new, cool names for the irrelevant new moves you're supposed to learn). A roster update in the form of an expansion kit for.. 10$? That would be neat.

I want to vote for Wasteland. Why can't I vote for Wasteland?!

Isn't the sequel to The Longest Journey (called Dreamfall) coming out this year too? If it is, that's also one game to look forward to. Gothic 3 if it comes out this year (probably not). Dungeon Lords will come out this year. Soon..

The Xbox 2 CPU will use a multi-core processor based on IBM

I'm lurking on way too many boards to list (or even remember, although I have them among my bookmarks) but there are a few I'm posting on. Obsidian Entertainment: I'm sure you've noticed I'm here, if you're reading this. Dungeon Lords Forum: I'm following Dungeon Lords closely because I think it has potential to be a great game for me. Gothic Forum: I used to post there all the time while waiting for Gothic 2, but now I'm lurking until news about Gothic 3 starts coming out.. RPGDot.com Forum: Used to post a lot there until I was banned by this right-wing ultra-nationalistic super-religious admin (forgot her name). The ban has since been lifted but I lost interest in posting on a board run by morons. Obsidian Entertainment's boards are my favourite boards right now (although I'm sure that will change with time) and I quite like the diversity of the people who post here.

I had an old Wico Redball for my Commodore 128 that I still miss tremendously. An old swedish gaming magazine once reviewed the Wico Redball. They gave it the highest score with the motivation, "If there ever was a World War 3, the only thing that would survive would be c0ckroaches and Wico Redballs." Edit: Isn't it insane that I have to use "1337-speek" (almost) to be able to write c0ckroach?!

There is no chip that allows you to play Gamecube games on a Playstation 2. Both consoles are so cheap by now, you could get both. The problem would then be that the new games cost almost as much as a new console..

I actually own a SmartJoy Frag, but because I've let my girlfriend's little sisters borrow my Playstation 2, I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I just tested it (in GTA: San Andreas) and it seemed to work great. Of course, I never had time to set the buttons right so it might not have been the best of tests..

I wrote a very short preview of this game in the beginning of 2004 (back when it was still called Xenus and not Boiling Point). It looked highly interesting back then, even though the graphics were amateurish and the technology couldn't keep up with what the game designers tried to do. But apparently it looked good enough, because since then Atari has bought the rights for the game, they've spiced up the graphics and the technology looks very good in the latest movies. I wonder who made them change the name though? I never liked Xenus (anus?) that much and I think Boiling Point sounds much cooler.

Where do you believe the true majority lies?
mkreku replied to Kalesar's topic in Computer and Console
It's easy to get the impression that the FPS crowd is the biggest gaming group of them all, because that genre has tournaments and is all about online play. Online play = visibility. I suspect the biggest gaming group are casual gamers who play stuff like The Sims and the dreaded EA sports games. Those players are not as visible, but when you check the lists of the top selling games of all times you'll find a bundle of NHL/NFL/NBA games up there, and I guess someone has to play them. -
Where do you believe the true majority lies?

Feels like everyone's going to belong in the "True Gamer" category when this poll is done.. I mean, who doesn't cross genres every once in a while, no matter how devoted you are to your favourite genre? (I love Gothic, Wasteland, Far Cry, GTA: San Andreas, Deus Ex, The Longest Journey etc.) -
Gothic is the game that has pleasantly surprised me the most so far. I had almost never heard of it, thought the name was ugly and I had never played a good game made in Germany before. Imagine my surprise when I installed it and started it up for the first time and it turned out to be one my all time favourites.. even though I didn't even get a manual and had to spend a week trying to figure out the controls! (I bought a used copy from England)

I love threads like these where Volourn gets shred to tears and stomped into the ground.. but doesn't realize it! Keep it coming, it is highly amusing Uhm.. On-topic: I prefer mana based spell systems (the few times I play a magic user) because I hate planning ahead. That simple.

What's your favorite fantasy/si fi world?
mkreku replied to Darth Reven's topic in Computer and Console
I prefer the post apocalyptic setting. There's something about helping civilization after a huge world destroying war that's intriguing to me. Also, I love the possibility of being able to explore the ruins of long forgotten cities, where I can actually recognize the items I find. As a bonus, I prefer games with real weapons. I've always preferred an AK-47 over a longsword +3. My favourite RPG of all time is probably Wasteland, just so you know it. -
You do realize that the exact same things happen in every part of journalism, right? Or do you really believe the same news is shown the same way in Iraq as in the US? Anyhow, most every reviewer (in games or otherwise) tries to be as subjective as possible, although it's impossible to be 100% "pure". Of course, one might wonder about those who gets to review unfinished code before everyone else and then just happen to give the beta 9/10.. Five times in a row (with different beta's of course).

I've been thinking about this statement for a bit, and it's actually a bit offensive when I think about it. Most (not all!) people on this board who have played KotOR2 already have witnessed a huge amount of bugs and weird occurances within the game. They have also filled the board with posts about their bug-findings and problems. KotOR2 for the US Xbox owners passed through QA once before, and apparently they did not do their job very well the first time, since all those reported bugs/problems slipped through their fingers. The game was (presumably) made for the players. The players have played it, reviewed it and bug reported it since it was released. Now, how about actually listening to the players too? There have been lots of suggestions on how to improve the game (such as increasing the difficulty, letting all NPC's use the workbench etc.) and there have been lots of bug reports which the QA team missed the first time around. I hope Obsidian remembers that the player base is not only something abstract you take money from, but also an excellent source of information and inspiration.

Meet the Feebles was better.

I just watched Gamespot's video review. It sure does look extremely good.

I'd hate to be german. Gothic/Gothic 2 were also shockfull of bugs when they were released on the german market. By the time they had been translated to english, most of the bugs had been fixed. It almost seems like german game producers use their audience as free beta testers before aiming for the international market. People complaining about Troika should take one look at the poor germans before opening their mouths (that includes me, actually).

But what would be the difference between a mad person and a normal person, if the mad person had the option of choosing normal responses in conversations..?

9.6 from Gamespot?! Ok, this really must be one hell of a game. I have a friend with a Gamecube.. Let the persuasion process begin! Anyhow: "You cannot move and fire at the same time, nor can you strafe from side to side as you can in a typical shooter, though Resident Evil 4 plays very much like a shooter otherwise." This Gamespot snippet makes Resident Evil 4 sound like a FPS with crappy controls. A little worrying.. Although I got used to the Gothic control schemes so I know from experience that anything is possible!
