Gamespot Rumor: Troika shutting its doors
mkreku replied to Gryphcon's topic in Computer and Console
One point of clarification is needed here: piracy is not theft, it is "pattern copying". Stealing is when you physically take an object that doesn't belong to you (like driving off with someone elses car) and cause someone (usually) innocent a lot of grief. Pattern copying doesn't affect anyone else directly, but is harmful for the entire industry in the long run because of lost incomes (the losses, by the way, are extremely difficult to calculate correctly). Also, there are different levels of piracy. Stores selling pirated copies of games/music/movies are the worst kind, while the kid downloading a game he couldn't possibly afford is of a lesser kind. Don't be so hasty to call someone a thief. -
How's that for fanboyism?

There's no difference between USA and the rest of the world when it comes to stupid court rulings. In Sweden, there's an ongoing trial right now that's trying to decide if this one guy assaulted another guy. What did the accused guy do though? He installed a powerful car alarm inside his own driver's seat of his own car. Some thief tried to steal the car, set off the alarm while being inside the car and damaged his hearing! The guy called the police when he heard the alarm go off and went out to comfort the thief until the police arrived (it was a young thief). A few days later the thief accused the guy of assault.. We'll see what the verdict says in a few weeks.

You need to tell me who's holding the gun to your head, forcing you to play the game, because I need to report this horrible crime to the police.

Well, the beta is ending tomorrow, so my level 51 paladin just signed off World of Warcraft forever. Bye all! And, just to waste more bandwidth, the stats of my poor, poor character. It was fun while it lasted.

I like them all! Very Gothic-inspired, especially the digger and the mage

At least the PC version is patchable. That was a really harsh review, by the way.

I don't understand what everyone's so worried about. Bethesda will do it their way, no matter what. With Daggerfall they showed they can do a game with one hell of an atmosphere and story ("VENGEANCE!"), with Morrowind they showed they can create a very non-linear gaming experience. If only they manage to shape up their dialogues and NPC's, I am sure Fallout 3 can be good, if not great. Besides, the game is getting done. Period. Without Bethesda there would probably not be any more Fallout at all. Someone at least trying to make a new Fallout is a hell of a lot better than no chance of getting another Fallout ever again.

I didn't mean you specifically. I meant everyone who just post a number and nothing else. It's kind of how everyone on the internet is 6'5 with a 15 inch schlong..

The thing about this test is: I only trust in Rosbjerg's and my own results, because we're the only ones who've submitted our results with something backing them up (screenshots). That means the average IQ among the trustworthy users of the Obsidian boards is 135! We rule.

No, really? The (rather obvious) point I was trying to make is that it's very possible to combine an isometric view with a third person view. Spellforce did it in style. Should be? Only in your mind. Fortunately, in the real world, there's no law as to how the combat in a Fallout "should be". For me, the worst thing about Fallout was.. the combat. Fighting one rat took too long, the game became totally unbalanced as soon as I got hold of automatic weapons and, quite frankly, I thought the combat was rather boring. Maybe Bethesda can do it better?
-
Well, at least he seems to acknowledge one of the main problems in the Elder Scrolls series in that interview: the NPC's and their dialogue. If they do as he says (20-40 deep NPC's) it'll be a whole lot better than Morrowind already. Also, using the SPECIAL system is almost forcing the game to become true to the old Fallout's. Lionheart is, of course, an example where even SPECIAL can't save the day, but as long as it's there, I think a lot of hardcore Fallout nutters will be pleased. I am, personally, hoping they change the combat to real time and the view to (optional) third person, over the shoulder. More game developers need to play Spellforce to see how well a combined RTS/third person viewed RPG can work.

Gamespot Rumor: Troika shutting its doors
mkreku replied to Gryphcon's topic in Computer and Console
Aahh, ok, thanks. Let's hope they have some good news instead of confirming these death rumours surrounding them. What if they just want to announce that they've secured a publisher for their new post apocalyptic title? -
Gamespot Rumor: Troika shutting its doors
mkreku replied to Gryphcon's topic in Computer and Console
Aah, the liar strikes again. I seriously don't think anyone thinks that Gothic's combat is the best ever. The same goes for its AI. But since noone on these forums has ever said anything like it, the point is moot. At least the AI in Gothic is better than the one in NWN Hey, Volourn, here's an idea: how about you actually play the game before bashing it? You really should try it sometime, liar. -
http://pc.ign.com/articles/583/583911p1.html Ign reviewed Cops 2170: The Power of Law, another turn based RPG from a russian developer. They are really building up a very, very bad reputation in the gaming industry.. Also, STALKER got delayed again. Bummer.

Another poor soul trying to get Volourn to listen to logic and facts.. Oh well. Has anyone heard anything new regarding Troika yet? They said they would give out information in February, but so far I haven't been able to dig up anything. Of course, February is still young.. -
Nooo, not Far Cry, the only FPS that is better than Half-Life 2 (in some ways)!
-
You could always try the DNA-drivers. They're really good if you play Half-Life 2! http://www.dna-drivers.nl/list.php?c=files

Let me comfort you a with a little game list in chronological order: 1999: The Longest Journey 1998: Grim Fandango 1994: Tex Murphy: Under A Killing Moon 1993: Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father 1991: Martian Memorandum . . . 1987: Guild of Thieves Also.. I played Mean Streets (first Tex Murphy game, from 1989) on my Commodore 64! Trust me, you're not old.

That just destroyed all of your credibility. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, because as everyone knows; if your taste differs from Mr. Numberman's here.. you have no credibility.

Yes, this is true. We paladins were megatanks and damage masters, and the game was fun to play (I like being able to solo zones). When I play now, I'm not having fun. My seal lasts for 30 seconds, my Blessing of Might lasts for 5 minutes. All I have to do in combat is watch that seal timer tick down, and when it reaches zero I renew it. Occasionally I renew my blessing too.. I used to hit for 140-150 dmg per hit. After the patch I'm hitting for 90-100. That means I'm doing alot less damage per hit and the average time I spend in combat against every enemy has increased by 30-40%. Before the first major patch, paladins had a small spell that did minimal amounts of damage, but was usable every combat round. That made combat both tactical and dependant on player input (spend lots of mana on damage or save it to be able to heal?). They removed that and replaced it with the Seal-system. Seal of the Crusader was ok because it shortened the length of the now fully automated combat considerably, which was a good thing because Blizzard reduced the player combat input to nothing. The last patch lengthened the combat considerably. So what's left? Lengthy combat sequences without any form of player input. It's actually so bad, I've started playing WoW in windowed mode, just so I can surf the net while my character auto-fights in the background. All I do is initiate combat (turn on a useless seal and bless myself) and wander off to look for naked ladies on the net. Every five minutes or so, I check the game to see if I won or lost. That's not a good sign for a game, in my book.

I would (again) recommend the Gothic games. Both are great games.

I've played Prince of Qin, and it's a good game. Perhaps a little bit simplistic. The character development is quite good, but it didn't feel as my choices affected the game much, since NPC's are very one-dimensional and the quests seemd to be solvable in only one way. But there are lots of very detailed and nice maps, lots of 1337 l00t, good chinese atmosphere and interesting side-quests. The game can also be quite difficult at times, so if you enjoy a challenge, give it a go. I have not played Seal of Evil though.
