I never had a problem with Grim Fandango (on my ATI) either, after installing that XP bug fix official patch that I found on the 'net. I don't understand why some people have so many issues with everything.

Well, Volourn is a known liar already, so why even bother. What's more worrying to me is how Toronto will be able to squeeze their rooster under 37-39 million dollars. I know Mogilny will be gone (injury ridden and past his prime, but still a great loss) and I hope the underachiever and overrated Owen Nolan will be gone too. With a little luck Belfour (never really thought he was as good as they claim) will make place for Tellquist in goal. Another one I'd rather see they drop is Leetch. While he's good, he's really too much of a defensive liability to suit my tastes. And expensive as hell. Nieuwendyk and Roberts (old pals) are also both past their primes and even though I like them both I'd happily see them both go for younger, hungrier players. Just a little luck in the draft lottery and we're set for a great season (Please, Crosby, come toooo uuuuussssss....)

Bull. It was a lockout from the start, yes. That's the only thing you got right (ever, probably). But the owners made offer after offer which the NHLPA simply refused to accept.. then in the end they actually DID accept almost the exact same offer, but with WORSE numbers. So oh yes, I blame the players. They put up a fight without having anything to fight for, except greed. Source? My source is www.espn.com, but since it's you I won't bother linking directly. They DO have approximately the same amount of money in salaries, definitely in the same leagye. Lie all you want, but this is a fact. They also had the worst TV-deal ever (which is where the big money comes from, not tickets or souvenirs) which was approximately 2% of another major sport TV-deal. The NHL was losing money. That's a fact (unless you can point me to some report that says otherwise?). And yes, it was Bettman's fault for spreading NHL to places where they don't want it on the expense of the great clubs. Attendance and merchandise are small potatoes compared to the TV-deals.

Shocking News! Daikatana dude leaves Midway!
mkreku replied to Llyranor's topic in Computer and Console
It's annoying, all these written rules about what and what not to discuss about former employers. You guys realize we probably never will know exactly what lead to all these occurances, and it will take months (perhaps years) to puzzle together who hired who, who fired who and what drove people to do/go what/where they did. I'm curious by nature, I want to know what's going on behind the scenes! Why did Romero leave? Why did Sawyer leave (and subsequently join Obsidian)? Why does Romero have a hungarian bride?? SO MANY QUESTIONS, SO FEW ANSWERS. -
I'm glad they finally resolved their problems. But at the same time I'm sad because the players decided to waste a full year of hockey (my favourite sport) on a lost cause. I mean, even if the owners were cooking their books, there are other means to see if the league was in a financial sane situation. It wasn't, and this new CBA proves it (no matter how much crap Volourn keeps spewing). The TV deal the NHL had was worth 2% of the NFL (or was it NBA?) TV deal, but the NHL players made approximately the same amount of money as the NFL players. And yet they demanded more.. Their greed knew no limits and I'm actually glad the NHL managed to break NHLPA this time. That's kind of weird, coming from someone like me who's almost a communist in mind and strongly believe in unions. I just hope they can work together on a more equal ground for the next 6 years (revenue sharing, please work!).

What are you playing ? (looking forward too)

King's Quest 8 isn't all that bad.. If you can get used to the controls and the transition to 3D. -
I review computer games for a living. It doesn't pay much right now, but since I'm only taking courses at the university in my spare time, it doesn't matter much.

Shocking News! Daikatana dude leaves Midway!
mkreku replied to Llyranor's topic in Computer and Console
I was expecting this to be just another dull thread where people rip on Romero for making Daikatana a billion years ago. But this thread turned out to be both interesting and informative! Great to see J.E. Sawyer back in creating RPG's, even though I wouldn't dismiss the new Gauntlet just yet. From what I've seen it has the looks of a co-op God of War game, and that can't be all that bad! But anyhow, let's hope Obsidian can get that Black Isle chemistry going again. By the way, is Romero kind of lazy, or is that just my impression of him..? -
What the..? Why..? Bah! Argh. MEH.. WHAT THE.. WHY DO YOU.. BAH!! ARGH!! (Leafs in 2006! Yay!)

What old game would you like to see..
mkreku replied to ShadowPaladin V1.0's topic in Computer and Console
I wonder how the old Ultima's would play on a handheld? Of course, Wasteland would be my obvious choice, but someone said that already :| -
I really would love to look forward to this new project from Junction Point, but since Warren Spector kept defending the design choices in Deus Ex: Invisible War I haven't been able to work up any enthusiasm for his work. I mean, sure he's made a LOT of really good games. But that doesn't mean he can't lose touch with his old 'game feel'. To me Deus Ex: Invisible War proves somewhat that he's really lost it. He can no longer automatically see what's a good feature in a game and what's not. Deus Ex: Invisible War really was a parade of horrible design choices.

I'm just trying to explain to the world what's the closest a finn will ever get to sex.

Strategist for me too. The problem with a quiz like this is that most people choose the answer they wish they'd be, and not the one they really are. Your best friend should probably do this test for you instead. Then I'd be an "****" Edit: I only used a harmless word to describe a bunghole, stupid filter!

A finnish love story: She came to me in the middle of the night, not hesitating for a second, diving in for my naked skin. In a swift move she started sucking and I could feel my blood rush.. ..until she got full and flew away. Damn mosquitoes.

Not only does it take a turn for the sci-fi, it also allows the sci-fi enemies to cheat to make the game more difficult. It's very annoying. Still.. Don't let that put you off. Far Cry is the best FPS I've ever played and I loved (almost) every minute of it. It has easily the best graphics I've ever seen in a game, it gives you the freedom to fight your own war, it's AI can be really impressive (I once hid in a air duct, when suddenly an enemy soldier noticed me and crawled in behind me!), the physics and shadowing are equally impressive (although the physics engine doesn't include destructable objects) and the setting is sooo nice. Also, if you have friends with Far Cry, get this: http://www.farcrycoop.de.vu/ It's not finished yet, but it's playable and adds another dimension to the game. -
I don't mind a hack fest every now and then (Gothic 2..) but then it has to be interestingly done. I didn't learn any techniques myself. All I did was jump around, use the "break shield" move when needed and attacking from behind all the time. If I ever met something that needed a lot of damage to kill, I just used the Jade Golem thingie (was it Jade Golem? I became big and horribly overpowered is all I remember) hit the opponent 2-3 times and won the fight. The AI in Jade Empire is probably the worst I've seen in a long, long time (I actually only remember a FPS that could challenge Jade Empire for that title). I mean, why does it take a normal human being 2-3 seconds to turn around after I've jumped behind them? That's plenty of time to do whatever I want to finish them off.

I use no-cd patches. They're very convenient when you're getting 2-3 games sent to you per week. Also, in Sweden no-cd patches aren't illegal as long as you own the original game. Which I do.
-
Uhm.. My cousin is playing Jade Empire right now (15 minute sessions!) and he's right at the end. You know how the game keeps count of how long you've played? Last time I checked he was at 11 hours and some 40 minutes (can't remember the exact amount) and he was right at the end (Chapter 6, some outer courtyard or something). Are you telling me that Chapter 7 picks up speed again and lasts for a whole 8-18 hours more..? The last few chapters in the game have been VERY weak (the spirit realm sucked) and I frankly don't understand how anyone could honestly call this the "RPG of the year".

The Fall is finally going to be released
mkreku replied to EnderAndrew's topic in Computer and Console
It hasn't? But I played it and I can't speak german. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Uhm.. That is weird. We at Spel2 get these release lists and The Fall has been moved around a lot, but right now it's set on a "Third Quarter of 2005" release. Maybe only Sweden was excluded from the world wide release then..? Edit: Looked around a little and found this thread on the official Silver Style board: http://www.silver-style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5988 They claim no english version has been released yet. -

No need to thank me (or anyone else from another non-german speaking country) as it hasn't been released in english anywhere yet. I'm waiting for the same version as you are. -

You have to be kidding?! If you're saying Daggerfall isn't buggy, I'm beginning to think you've never played the game! I mean, come on, I love the game (one of my top 5 favourites ever) but I (and basically everyone) use Daggerfall as THE example of a buggy game! It's in fact so bad that you HAVE to complete the main story quests in a particular sequence or the game WILL bug out on you and you will have to restart the entire chain in a new game! (Yes, even after the last patch!) Arena was also extremely buggy (almost to a point of it not being playable at all) upon release, but my memory is more clouded on that one. -
Are people STILL trying to defend a fly weight win over a heavy weight?? Sometimes the stupidity of these forums amaze me. Tyson is a guy who is (was?) trained to withstand punches from other fighters who weigh 200+ lbs, and yet you think someone who weighs around 126-145 lbs could knock him out! It could of course happen if Tyson had his back turned and Lee was holding a brick at the time.. An interesting read for all you Lee fans out there: http://www.myodynamics.com/articles/bruce.html Sure, Bruce Lee was a charismatic character, but comparing him to a (once) world class athlete in a weightclass almost twice his own weight is really getting ridiculous. Please, go watch MMA (you know, the real thing and not a martial arts movie?) and see how many lightweights there are that can fight with the big boys (and YES, there are pure boxers in MMA too).

Weird. I was under the impression that most everyone agreed that, while the LotR-films were technical and financial successes, they aren't exactly the pinnacle of movie directing? They all seem rather.. blunt. Peter Jackson has a flair for effects, settings and effective story-telling, but creating believable characters isn't exactly one of his strong points. Did anyone but me see the (excellent) movie Heavenly Creatures? Even though I liked the film, it makes it quite obvious that Peter Jackson has some limitations in his directing skills (even though he's developed a lot since then).

To be honest, I never noticed the tearing, but since I lent my machine to my girlfriend's little sisters I can't check it right now. I trust you on that one though. But I'm pretty sure I never noticed any slowdowns or bad framerates, which is still impressive, considering the amount of action, movement and detail that's on the screen at once. Awesome game, if only I didn't suck so much at it.
