  1. That's so romantic!!1! *sniff*
  2. The two high-lighted guys are the future of Detroit, should they choose to keep them under the new CBA. Datsyuk might not be one of the most feared guys now, but..
  3. Uh.. So you're saying a 294 MHz CPU, 32 Mb RAM system compared to a 733 MHz CPU, 64 Mb RAM system is the same as comparing a 3 core 3.2 GHz CPU, 512 MB shared RAM system to an 8 core 3.2 GHz CPU, 256 MB dedicated RAM system? Are you out of your mind? This time around the processors will be equal in MHz and the amount of RAM will be much closer than the last time (depending on the game, since you never know how much RAM will be used by the GPU in the Xbox 360). It is NOT the same match up.
  4. Well, that would be abusing the function. Using it would be (for example, not to be taken literally) when you start a thread about your favourite game and some idiot keeps posting over and over how bad the game is. It adds nothing to the discussion and starts flame wars. In those cases I just wish the function was there, as I've had several of my threads closed because the idiot kept repeating the same thing over and over ad nauseum until a flame fest erupted.
  5. You might also want to keep in mind that the Xbox has twice the CPU the PS2 has and twice the RAM.. Yet the PS2 isn't exactly blown out of the water, as the sales of the consoles clearly shows. Maybe FLOPS aren't that useless after all? Also, the Xbox debuted about a year after the PS2. The PS3 will debut about a year after the Xbox 360. Imagine that for a second..
  6. The Xbox HAS stronger hardware than the PS2. The Xbox SHOULD produce better graphics than the PS2. The big question is why it doesn't manage to do that consistently. The PS3 will probably be somewhat stronger than the Xbox 360, but as we've seen in this generation of console wars, that doesn't seem to mean much for the end user. Unless you're someone who thinks the difference in graphics between the PS2 and the Xbox version of a golf simulator is vital for your gameplay.
  7. Ok, if you say so. But could you back up that statement with a source, since it's not at all what I have heard (and I have talked to a lot of different EA people about Renderware)?
  8. Boohoo, I feel so unoriginal, but here we go: Gothic 3 Fahrenheit Oblivion And only Fahrenheit is even visible on the horizon.. This will be a looong fall (autumn?).
  9. I've played it and I've enjoyed it a lot. But it's much closer to Gothic than [insert Bioware title of your own choice here] so you're bound to NOT like it (or even give it a fair chance). Just uninstall it right now and spare us another thread ranting about how bad your recent purchase is and how good Planescape: Torment was. Ps. For the ones who do care about these types of games: Deep Shadows are working on a patch to improve the stiff vehicle physics!
  10. I'm sorry, but you are wrong again. I actually went to the press showing of Burnout 3: Takedown and talked to one of the developers of the game, and he insisted that it wasn't coded specifically for any one machine. They used this third party developer kit called Renderware (that EA bought a few years ago), that's supposed to make it possible to create one game for several platforms using just one code. Burnout 3 was not a PS2 title that was ported to the other systems, of that I am certain.
  11. I am satisfied with the way the moderators have responded to my complaints and/or flames so far. Sometimes I get reprimended and sometimes my complaints are acknowledged. I have nothing to complain about on that front. A function I would really like to see (but one that I'll never get) is the ability to 'ban' certain people on these forums from the threads I, myself, start. There are some people on these forums that are so ignorant and simple minded that their participation in any discussion never adds anything but anger and derailment. If I could stop those people beforehand from posting in the threads started by myself, I'd be a much happier (and less aggressive) board member.
  12. Of course +/- isn't going to tell the whole story. The +/- is only useful to you if you watch the games, watch the team and watch the individual players. Also, you need to judge a players +/- against other players on the team. If the entire team averages -30 then -25 is actually a pretty good +/-. As I said in my previous post, it depends a lot on your team, if it's above .500 or not. +/- is only misleading if you don't know how to translate it into hockey knowledge. The discrepancy from year to year is one of the reasons +/- is one of the more exciting stats to follow, as it can tell you how well a line is composed, how motivated a player is or what his role in the team was. Just imagine what would happen to Kovalchuk's stats if he suddenly found himself playing together with Brendan Morrow and PJ Axelsson (for example).
  13. Geez, I hate when I have to agree with Volourn on something, because everytime I see his idiocy it feels like I must be wrong to think like him even when I know I'm right. Anyhow, I actually consider the +/- to be one of the best stats for my personal use. If you look at a player like Fredrik Modin (Tampa bay) and check his stats before Tampa Bay was winning anything, you'll see that he's put up decent stats point-wise and almost always has had a positive +/-. On a losing team, that's a VERY impressive figure, if you manage to combine it with some offense. If you then take a player like Ilya Kovalchuk and check his offensive stats (and become awed by them like everyone is) but then notice he never goes above like.. -30 in +/-, those goals don't seem as impressive anymore. Especially in the play-offs the +/- statistic is a great source of information of how a player has behaved during the game. And yes, in the last play-offs Sundin had negative numbers. For 6.8 million dollar per year, you'd expect him to take much more defensive responsibility than that. But the Leafs in 2006 anyhow!
  14. My cousin recently finished Jade Empire using 12-14 hours of gametime (I forgot the exact amount and I'm not home right now to check) and only played for 15 minutes to 1 hour at a time. I think he is close to the "mythical average game" as he usually plays only when there's a friend around (we have had huge battles in Colin McRae Rally 2005, Forza Motorsport, Fight Night Round 2 and so on) or just before he goes to bed. It feels to me that what the original poster meant as a story is the type of "hold my hand while I play the game" story that you found in the old IE games. I, personally, don't miss those types of stories, as I prefer the open-ended stories that aren't crammed down your throat when you play the game. Also, I think that's where the progress in both technology and development is taking us: a less obvious way of telling great stories, where you're free to do what you want in a (sort of) world simulation, where the story is over-arching and subtle, instead of forced-on and linear.
  15. Gothic 3 for teh win!!1!
  16. Some players have the ability to make the players around him better. Messier is one of them. He also has a morale impact and make his teammates work harder. If the leader on the ice throws his body in front of a slapshot to block a puck, it sends a message to the whole team. If the leader bodychecks an opponent outweighing him by 30 pounds, it sends a message to the team. If the leader ruthlessly and self sacrificingly drives to the net everytime he gets the puck, he sends a message to the team. I'm not trying to say Messier is still the player he once was (his stats speak for themselves) but there are plenty of other qualities that experienced GM's would love to have on his team. Don't forget that Messier is a franchise player too and having him on your team for economic reasons only could be reason enough.
  17. Sacred has co-op (up to 8 players I think it was). Delta Force has excellent co-op (used to play one as a sniper and one with close combat gear.. awesome). Actually, I think most of Novalogic's games have co-op: http://www.novalogic.com/gamecatalog.asp
  18. Oohh oohh.. before you close it, let me just squeeze one more Darque picture in here: There we go!
  19. Fortunately, hockey is a lot more than statistics (or I wouldn't watch it). I would still call Messier (well, at least from the 2003-2004 season) one of the better players in the league. He is such a presence on ice, has such an eye for the game and with his experience, intelligence and grit I am pretty sure I'd rank him at least among the top 20 (which, of course, is an insult to the up-and-coming stars of the game). I don't feel like the NHL has been able to come up with any real talent in the last few years (here's hoping for Crosby) but that's another story.
  20. Romances in a game.. If only a game would allow me to make my own silly pick up lines (I seem to have lost my phone number, can I borrow yours?), my own lame moves and my own love interest, then I'd be happy to have them. But love interests that feel 'designed' to attract certain types of teenage males (Jade Empire!) break my game immersion and only work to annoy me. I don't mind them when they're not intrusive or obvious, but I hate them when they're overly obvious, intrusive and simplistic (Jade Empire again!).
  21. I just remembered that I had a lot of fun with Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Quite underrated FPS.
  22. I voted yes. Let the man himself decide if he should retire or not. I trust his judgement enough that he will step down when he can no longer contribute to his team. I'd rather see him in a real hockey town (where they can appreciate his greatness) than New York. Toronto already has enough dinosaurs on the team, but perhaps Montreal? That would shake things up.
  23. Uhm.. The entire crew of Spel2 has switched to ATI to be able to play effortlessly. I know I switched to ATI to be able to play older games (for our retro section). ATI's latest drivers always works for me, while with my old Nvidia I had to switch between old drivers (under 30.xx and over 30.xx) for certain games.
  24. Deus Ex (I'll sneak this in here, although I consider it a RPG), Far Cry and Half-Life 2. Although me and a friend used to play a lot of Delta Force 2 back in the day.. It had co-op over LAN which was awesome.
  25. I would. COME ON TORONTO!! WE NEED CROSBY!
