Not until I have to. There is nothing about Vista that seems like an obvious improvement over Windows XP. Hefty price included. The machine I am writing this on has been on for 93 days without a crash or a restart. It's Windows XP Pro SP2 Swedish. I read an article today about a feature in Vista that's supposed to make it possible to update drivers and Vista specific libraries without having to reboot your computer. Vista had six updates today. Five of those needed you to restart your computer! Unbelievably bad! That, together with the insane system demands, the high price point for Vista, the unavoidable billions of bugs introduced with every new OS, the bad driver support, the DECREASE in game performance compared to XP, the non-existent DirectX 10 games, the ridiculously Nazi-like DRM system, the constant battle against pop-up warning windows, and so on and so forth.. really makes Vista seem like a huge disappointment and NOT something an ordinary computer user would need. I really hope some clever coder manages to incorporate DirectX 10 features into Windows XP. Microsoft says it's impossible (naturally, since they want you to buy their new overpriced OS), but we won't know that until someone has at least tried. I've never been so underwhelmed by a new OS before. And I even installed Windows ME on a computer once! Check out this recent comparison (using both games and common applications) between XP and Vista: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/29/xp-...ista/index.html

It IS the best RPG I've ever played on the Playstation 2. And I envy you for getting to play it for the first time right now. I'd replay it, but it has ZERO replayability.

When I click on an attachment, I get a window the size of a stamp. What's up with that? I have to manually enlarge it before being able to see the picture.

I'd rather watch Hal Gill pick his navel than watch any of your teams play!!1!one

Uhm.. It seems you guys are up in arms about features I can't even see. Ok, this Quick Reply looks a bit different, I'll admit as much..

Some cases are designed for a specific kind of airflow and opening up the sides on it only worsens the flow. My case (Antec P180) is such a case. If I open up the sides on it, the temperature of my CPU actually increases. Also, the Antec P180 comes equipped with machine washable dust filters that keeps the worst dust away. They've been very good so far as the inside of my case is still almost completely dust free after almost a year of usage.

Woohoo! We won! It was only the Canadiens, but still! A win is a win ) Crosby had four more points.. He leads the NHL ahead of Ovechkin. Both super-rookies from last year still 1 and 2. Amazing.

They forgot to show the graphically improved version of Xen..

Sorry for inserting an article link amongst all the bickering, but: http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=12529 An interview with Bethesda and a little tidbit about Fallout 3. Hope it hasn't been posted before..

Most reviewers have a genre that they're particularly good at (guess which mine is..), and they get assigned with the task of reviewing most of the games in said genre. But Vic is right: the earlier parts in a series has NO impact on the final score of a new product, unless it is an expansion or something. We judge each game on their own merits, no matter how far off from the previous installment in the series (if it's a sequel). The only thing that happens is that I usually mention that this new game either continues in the same treadmarks as its predecessor or that it breaks new ground (or something equally cheesy). If the game is good, the game is good, no matter how different it is from its predecessor. If it's bad, then it's bad. Nothing any predecessor can fix. Judging a new game based on similarity to old games would be moronic and tell you nothing about the quality of the game at hand.

The Playstation 3 seems to be having a few serious problems: Looks like Epiphany might have been right about one thing.

At the moment I run my E6600 at 3.0GHz on the stock cooler. It never gets warmer than 53 degrees Celsius. That's a reasonable temperature for a 25% increase in performance. I'll install the new cooler this weekend. It's not something I look forward to because I have to remove the entire motherboard to be able to install it, and I probably have to remove this extra fan that I added to cool my extremely hot X1950XTX (because of space problems).

I don't understand why the NHL keeps playing the All Star game. I would rather see the skill competition than the ice ballet game. They should market the skill competition like a mini-Olympics for hockey players, and make them more serious. Like have qualifying races in each and every team for the speed competition, and either broadcast or at least publish the results. Then have a finals that's televised. Or something.

I don't think I am brave enough to accept that dare :"> Edit: WTF kind of ugly smiley did I manage to lure out of the depths of the Obsidian server?! I had to edit my post just to get rid of it!

Great choice! I own the Abit AW9-MAX myself and it's easily the best motherboard I've had. Especially after a few BIOS updates (something which I presume you'll be going through too). Their hardware rocks, but it seems it takes them a while to optimize the BIOS part. Oh, and I got a Tuniq Tower 120 for my Conroe. I haven't installed it yet, but here I come, 4 GHZ!! )

I agree. It's a big difference between having a few broken bones or noses by the age of thirty than being a vegetable by the age of forty. The long term damages you get from boxing are horrendous.

Good luck, Intoxicate. You'll definitely need it, since 99% of these projects start out with huge ambitions and end up producing nothing. Even if you did manage to pull through to some sort of project end, the probability that you'd have gotten all the features in, the bugs out and the game balance right is.. slim (And the award for Understatement Of the Year goes to..). Still.. Good luck! I'd love for this to actually become a game and be great. That would totally rock.

I actually finished Sanitarium. It was great. Although it was my mom's copy like.. a hundred years ago. Oh, and I love the name "Barbie the Barbarian". )

Don't think anyone claimed that contact doesn't exist in basketball. All I said was that I think even football (soccer, you annoying emigrants) has more physical play than basketball. It might be the difference between the sports on both sides of the Atlantic.. ..but I guess "the soft European style" works pretty well anyhow: http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/06_wcm/ne...sp?newsID=16275 Spain took gold, Greece Silver and USA bronze. I will never understand the American fascination with violence and how you somehow get it mixed up with manliness all the time. Like hitting someone in the face in a sport that does not allow it would somehow make you tough. To me, it makes you stupid.

Vista gaming will be 10 to 15% slower than XP

The Playstation 3 unfortunately does not allow secondary OS's to interact directly with its GPU. The Playstation 3 itself uses some kind of custom libraries (PSGL) for rendering, which is based on OpenGL ES 1.0 and some Nvidia shader libraries combined. -
My experience with basketball (I played in an army league and a lower league after the army) was that in the army league, we had real referees. Move your feet in defense: foul. Ram someone on offense: foul. Too much wrestling under the basket: foul. The refs kept body contact to a minimum and except for a stray elbow here and there, I never got hurt. Once I started playing in a lower (more recreational) league after the army, the refs were usually hurt players or people without any training as referee's. And the easiest thing to do in basketball is to use violence to stop the opposing player, which is what everyone with a huge beer belly did. They put out a knee when you ran past, put an elbow in your face when battling for the rebounds, basically anything to get an upper edge when they lacked the athleticism or stamina to play the game properly.

To my experience, there's even less contact in basketball than in football (soccer to the heathens in the west). Unless you play in a true bush league..

Yeah, they recently mentioned STALKER on Eurogamer too: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=71887 Check out the latest video for it too. It still looks good. Or decent. Edit: Here's the trailer: http://www.eurogamer.net/tv_video.php?playlist_id=1775&s=l Edit 2: Even newer trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=...ype=mov&pl=game
