I don't know why you guys are dissing this so much. To me it sounds like God of War in an inferno setting? I liked God of War.

Dear Pixies, Your homo-erotic fantasies about the brainless boys are disturbing. Please stop. Sincerely, The rest of the board.

Speculation on the beginning

The Gothic games have no introduction. They don't even have hints. You're on your own and you WILL get your butt kicked. I love it. -
My virus, Matthrax, killed everyone on earth within 155 days.. except Madagaskar! Damn you Madagaskar!!

I'm trying to have fun in GTA4 again.. but it's hard. The car controls are still not fun. There's nothing to do besides the main missions (and I've done all of them already). There are no planes, no go-carts, no hidden races, no Area 51-wannabe's, no insane skydiving mountains to climb, no property to own, no territories to defend, no special vehicles to go on a rampage with, and so on. Oh, how I miss GTA: San Andreas and the possibilities that were open to me there. I just don't understand why they cut out so incredibly much for GTA4! There are only 10 different races in the entire game, for crying out loud!

No, there wasn't a lot of battles.. but then again there wasn't a lot of anything in the demo. But it's nothing like Dungeon Siege, that's for sure. Oh, and ignore Kaftan's replies in this thread. He's just stuck in the old "the writing sucks" routine that seems to be the in-thing to say right now among emo internet kids.

Speculation on the beginning

I really have no clue as to what to expect from the beginning of Alpha Protocol, but if we use Bond as an example: Bond films blow appr. 25% of their budget on the opening sequence! Like that awesome Casino Royale chase sequence with Bond crashing through walls to hunt down his super-nimble victim.. I'm hoping Alpha Protocol blows 25% of its wad in the opening sequence too -
The best part of Honda is that there's some life in them too, almost like Japan's answer to BMW (where Toyota would be Japan's answer to VW..). I used to drive a Honda Bullit (it wasn't actually called that, but it got that nickname and it really stuck): Honda CRX Great fun to drive, even though it had wooden seats, really hard suspension and interior quality issues (buttons falling off, plastic breaking and stuff like that). The super responsive steering and transmission combined with the amazing engine well made up for it.

One of the guys in my volleyball 'team' (we're actually just a bunch of friends) was like that. He'd yell and throw the ball away and blame his team mate (whoever that happened to be at the time since we basically rotated). So I ran into him at full force and broke his knee. He's not been back since the surgery. I sound like a psychopath, don't I?

And bigger maps! Most maps were just one house and a tiny garden surrounding it! I mean, I loved Silent Storm but that was a major flaw.

I was a long wave radio operator in the army, we had to learn Morse. 80 signs per minute or something like that.. And since some signs can be up to five beeps long, that's an awful lot of beeps in one minute.

I've played it, but I'm not sure what to make of it. The character development seemed really complex, but I didn't have time to "unlock" enough spells and skills before the demo ended to really get a feel for just how tactical the combat can be. As it was now, I only had one skill and used it excessively in every battle. It might also just be the demo area, but there seemed to be a lot of quests everywhere. Some easy, some even easier. "Collect three wolf pelts" kind of quests mixed in with "Open the locked chest" kind of stuff. The dialogues were tree based but I never got to use any of my skills in any of them (even though I put a few points in conversational skills). At least the graphics were nice and the game ran very nicely on my mid-range rig. I'll give it a try whenever it is released over here, but that's mostly because I am starved (again) and not because the demo lured me in.

Tonite I got the clever idea of trying to build together a working legacy computer from all my spare computer parts. So I went to my storage and found a case (complete with an old 450W PSU). An old Asus A7S333 worked well as my motherboard and I found an old AMD Athlon XP 2000+ to serve as my CPU. Three sticks of 256 MB 266 MHz DDR later and I had the memory installed. A friend's old 20 GB IBM harddrive serves as my storage unit. I even found an old Soundblaster 4 soundcard and an unidentified network card. But the best part I saved for last.. My 3DFx Voodoo 5 5500 64MB RAM!! It's actually one of the first SLI cards ever built, since it's basically two Voodoo 4500 32MB cards crammed onto one board! It will be sweet to try all those Glide-based games again, I thought. Anyhow, I found an old Windows 98SE CD lying around and started installing.. until I realized that the stupid harddrive wasn't empty. So I had to make a Windows 98 floppy boot disk to be able to reformat the drive. That took me probably an hour (finding a floppy disk, what the hell?!) and the formatting was slooow. But I managed to live through it. Then I could start with the real installation and everything went butter smooth, although I noticed that Windows did not even try to update via the internet. When I finally (after probably 3-5 reboots) was able to enter Windows 98, I immediately checked the Device Manager. FOUR yellow exclamation marks! And Windows hadn't even registered that there was a Voodoo card and a soundcard installed! The most pressing problem was that Windows hadn't been able to identify my network adapter. So I turned off the computer and opened the case and pulled out the card: nothing. There's no brand, no model number, nothing. How the hell do you find a driver for that? Via Google and a couple of stickers filled with weird numbers, I tried my luck with a few different drivers.. until I realized I have no floppy reader on my real computer. But the new computer has USB ports..? FAT CHANCE. Vanilla Windows 98 doesn't recognize USB memory sticks. After pulling my hair in despair I finally found a CD-RW lying at the bottom of an old cardboard box. Three hours of running between the computers with that stupid CD-RW later and I've still not identified the network card. But I've updated the computer with the latest Glide-drivers at least.. I had completely forgotten what a 'delight' it used to be to build computers. Tonite has been a good lesson.

Montreal 66 points, Oilers 62 points, Leafs.. 52.. points.. You guys don't know the meaning of the word suck!!

If it crashes BEFORE the intro, you have a codec problem. Try installing a codec pack of some kind, just to see if it helps. I would recommend something like K-Lite Standard: http://www.free-codecs.com/K_lite_codec_pack_download.htm Try that for starters.

Well, to continue to take Eurogamer as an example, there's an easy way to see what constitutes "giving out 10's like candy" since Eurogamer has a page with a summary of all their recent reviews: http://www.eurogamer.net/archive.php?type=...o&platform= Of all the 50 first reviews, there's ONE ten awarded. That's the Street Fighter 4 one. Of the 100 first reviews there are three tens (Street Fighter 4, World of Goo and Chrono Trigger on the DS). Three percent. So in real-life-giving-out-candy references, that would mean you'd get candy 11 times in a year. Less than once a month. No wonder you're all bitter (and wrong).
-
What, you need a translator to read binary? Weak.
-
So what you're saying is that if three games come out that all deserve tens, the third game shouldn't be getting it because that would be "handing 10's out like candy"? Flawless logic there. I'm pretty sure they (try to) score each game what they think it deserves, relatively independent of whether they've already given a ten that month/week/day.

Street Fighter 4: 10/10 from Eurogamer: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/street-fighter-iv-review I guess the hype might be deserved.

I thought Ninja Gaiden (on the original Xbox) was too difficult, but God of War was OK. I had a much easier time getting "into the groove" in God of War than in Ninja Gaiden. But I'm not good at that type of game so I'm guessing God of War was a bit easy for the hardcore crowd.

Tell me you didn't stop watching after it was 2-0. I DID

Since the Leafs has been playing rather well recently and they're facing a pretty beatdown Penguins team, I thought it might be nice to watch tonight's game. 1:23 later Malkin scored his first of the night. Great. Oh, it was Cooke. Same ****, different name.

Hmm, I liked the Bourne movies just because they felt so.. I don't know, but (almost) every encounter Bourne has is brutal, lethal and visceral. There are no push-overs. The enemies aren't just there to die in a gory mess, they put up a fight that matches the skill-level of Bourne. An action movie like Rambo where he kills 200+ people is taking on a small army. Bourne was more taking on an elite squad of assassins. It's like they showed the enemies a lot more respect in Bourne than in most other action movies.
