When I first found the original Gothic I played it for insane amounts of time.. I never clocked it, but I remember having to give up, not because I wanted to, but because my eyes were closing themselves. I would guess it was probably 16-20 hours straight rather than 27 though! Oh, and Gothic is a much longer game than Mass Effect. If I would have tried finishing it in one sitting I would probably have died.

That must mean there's a spot open! VOTE ME FOR MODERATOR! I PROMISE MORE PORN FOR ALL!

Did anyone see the movie Wanted? I would love a setting like that too.. Where the player is some office rat that turns out to be able to train up his skills to almost super-human levels. And of course, everything would take place in a living, breathing city.. with vehicles. :D

Is this a wish list? Then I wish for an open-world action RPG with a strong story and.. vehicles. Kind of like the RPG equivalent of GTA4. Made by Obsidian. I don't care about the setting, but contemporary times with nothing supernatural would be perfect for me.

Why isn't the character named JB?

I want his name to be Just Bleed. -
I'm not at home right now so I can't check what's lying around, but Fallout 3 was easily my most memorable gaming moment of 2008. I've also grown fond of GTA4 after a pretty rough start, but I haven't had time to play that as much as I've wanted yet. World of Goo was an excellent game, but I lost interest in the more frantic parts of it, mainly because the controls are less than perfect. What else did I buy? Far Cry 2 was an absolute blast the first ten hours. After that the respawning and repetition killed it for me. I haven't even finished it yet. The Witcher lost me somewhere in the first city with the autopsy and crap. I'm going to try Mercenaries 2 co-op soon (xmas present) so I'll hold off on that one yet. I can't remember any more games from the top of my head. But I think my next purchase will be King's Bounty..

Considering how badly Gothic 3 ran on most rigs, I suspect Risen will be the new Crysis.. except it will look like Far Cry

No, that is not the problem. I went into the RPG abyss at the time Wasteland was released. Guess which is my favourite RPG of all time? Wasteland. Since then I've been hoping for another RPG as great or greater than Wasteland, but I quickly realized that what I really wanted was to experience the same emotions that Wasteland gave me back then. Just like you don't want more games resembling Planescape: Torment; you actually want Planescape: Torment again. Or that experience. But it's impossible. I've learnt to appreciate the technological advancements made since Wasteland was made in 1988. Now I still think Wasteland was awesome but I would never want to go back to it. And the third dimension has me in a firm grip by now.. By the way, try asking a kid of today which is his favourite RPG. Most will answer Mass Effect or Fallout 3, games which we may think are more shallow than the ones we grew up with. But realize that these kids, in ten years time, will be defending Mass Effect and Fallout 3 the same way we are defending our ancient games now against the new even more 'shallow' titles.. It seems to be the way things work.

I think it looks fantastic (the future of RPG's that is)! No more guiding your little dress-up dolls around as some unseen god from above. Instead even the RPG makers of today has realized that removing abstraction layers between the player and the character is a great way of making games more interesting, instead of artificially adding them because of some outdated and obsolete table top rules. I love the direction the new games are taking (Fallout 3, hopefully Risen, hopefully Alpha Protocol etc). I don't miss a thing from the past. The future looks very bright to me.

Dual Wielding Pistals and Sub Machine Guns.
mkreku replied to Keith Justice's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I wouldn't mind if the game was entirely handgun based. No rifles, no bazookas, no machine guns, just pistols and revolvers. It is a spy game after all and the only concealable weapons are handguns. It could be fun trying to pimp up a .22 pistol into a lethal killing machine using silencers, special ammo and scopes! -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but.. Is the Unreal Engine 3 really that good..? I've gotten the feeling that it runs very well (performance wise) for the graphics it produces, but it feels somewhat clunky in every game I've played using it. Also, there's the texture pop-up problem that always seems to follow UE3 games. And what about streaming maps? Every UE3 game I've played has felt like a corridor that becomes incredibly stuttering whenever the hard drive is being accessed.

I've finally started playing GTA4 for real, after becoming bored with it during the three hour installation process a week or so ago. It seems OK for now, but whenever I get bored with doing missions and just want to fool around in the world, there's really not much to do. It's not at all as versatile as GTA: San Andreas. Oh, and all the people who've proclaimed that this GTA has the most realistic driving model so far: you are all 14 years old and have never actually driven a vehicle in your life. You will all be sorely disappointed when you get to drive a REAL car. Seriously, who thought the idea to make all vehicles (except the super sports cars) behave as if you were driving with slicks on ice was a good idea?! If you go above 50 mph you can't even turn! Idiotic.

My Firefox only crashes when I am watching porn. It might be God trying to tell me something.

I have NO idea what happened, but the Leafs scored 7 goals last night.. against Pittsburgh!

I don't understand what you're saying here? Arena was 3D, Daggerfall was 3D, the two spin-offs from the Elder Scrolls universe (Redguard and.. uh.. forgot the other one) were also 3D. Arena was so buggy I never even made it out of the first town (after the starting dungeon). Daggerfall was equally buggy and it took a LOT of tries before I finally got somewhere in its story (although I never remember actually finishing it). Morrowind was an absolute success compared to Daggerfall! Oblivion was as bug-free as I ever hope a game to be. Fallout 3 is a bit buggier than Oblivion (for me) but it's still a damn impressive game.

Pure greed made that decision. Unbelievable but not unexpected. I'll never understand how these pro athletes work. Having $60 million in the bank was obviously not enough when you can squeeze out $10 million on a non contender vs. $5-7 million on a cup contender. Yes, bitter is not a potent enough word to describe what I am feeling right now.

I've never kept a card for three years. Lifetime warranty? Yeah, I'm sure the XFX TNT cards would be mighty useful today (if there were any) :D

It's just a question of personal preference. Some people want the layer of abstraction to be thick (PnP fans) and some want it to be as thin as possible (ME!). Arguing over the fact that Josh has a preference is.. since I'm under moderation I'll just call it useless. But you know what I really mean.

I've owned an XFX card (Geforce 7800.. or 7900, can't remember now). It was OK, but the box it came in was way cooler than the actual card.

Well, you have to remember that Chicago is one of the hottest teams right now. I'm only glad the Leafs didn't have to face them tonight. Of all the teams I've seen play this year, the Caps and Chicago are the most fun to watch. Almost as good hockey as Tampa Bay played the year they won the cup.

Oh great. Sundin is heading to the Rangers, according to Swedish newspapers.
