Where the hell did my Anne Hathaway go?! Grr. I won't give up though! Anne ****ing Hathaway
  2. Help, my GPU suddenly started crying and I don't know why!
  3. Feel free to give some examples of this, because I sure don't remember any cheap startling moments in System Shock 2. And I have it installed on my computer, I played through the first couple of scenes just now and there are no such moments. So please explain what you saw in your version of System Shock 2. Will be fun to hear.
  4. Crash course it is! Graphics: ATI has the best bang for your buck when it comes to graphics cards right now (Radeon HD 4850/4870). Nvidia rules the single-chip GPU's though (GTX 260/280/285). Processor: Intel rules CPU's right now. Core 2 Duo is the best CPU for your buck (the overclock-friendly E8400 comes to mind), although the i7 920/940 is a really powerful and expensive beast if you have the cash. Storage: The hard drives worth their while are 1 TB+ (1000 GB and above) and superfast nowadays. Seagate's excellent reputation has been tarnished, Hitachi are costly but fast. Only go for a SSD (solid state disk, flash based, no moving parts) if you don't need a lot of space and like throwing your money away (Intel and OZC are performance leading in this sector). SSD's are extremely fast though. Sound: New, high-end motherboards have such great built-in soundcards that discreet soundcards are basically obsolete, unless you plan on mixing your own sounds/music and need to connect a lot of external equipment. Memory: DDR2 RAM is the most common memory type (and pretty damn fast at 1066 MHz with low latencies), and still to prefer to the more expensive DDR3. Unless you go for that i7 (only works with DDR3), in which case you get THREE (instead of two) memory channels and a true performance boost (and odd amounts of memory, like 3 GB or 6 GB or 12 GB..). I personally prefer the brand Corsair, but the difference is slight. Motherboard: There are a billion motherboards available so you'll have to spend ages deciding which one to get based on your own, personal preferences. Gigabyte makes very good motherboards at very reasonable prices though. Power unit: 600W or above is recommended. Insane, I know. Cooltek, Tagan (costly but excellent), Corsair are among the quality brands. Case: Antec is my personal favourite brand. But there are a lot of great brands like Cooler Master, Zalman, Silverstone among others. You basically can't go wrong unless you buy something really cheap. It's a start.

You guys are depressing. Here's something to cheer me up! Anne Hathaway
  6. How about feeling apathy instead? I mean, if you were working for McDonald's and Burger King offered $2 more per hour, wouldn't you say "Screw you, McDonald's!" in a heartbeat and switch? Business is business. Games are not art.
  7. I'm sure she is. And while we're at it, maybe you can clarify the need for hyperbole to get your point across?
  8. HAHAHA!! That dude who gets out of his Mercedes to help the girl park her tiny green car is my new hero :D
  9. That assumes that more options always = more interesting gameplay, which I think is highly questionable. I think the keywords to each sentence are often and always, so let's combine them. "That assumes that more options often = more interesting gameplay, which I think is highly questionable." I think this is true. Why do you think they removed the leaning-around-corners function from FEAR 2, for example? Easy to implement on a keyboard, not quite as intuitive on a controller. You're using a binary scale to express your opinion, yet you fail to cover all combinations. Let me add the missing parts. Assuming less = 0 and more = 1: Less options less developed = superbad (00) Less options more developed = good (01) More options less developed = bad (10) More options more developed = supergood (11) And we all want our games to be supergood, don't we?
  10. Let's hope that Bioshock 2 actually puts up a fight (isn't retardedly easy), isn't completely linear and has more than five different enemy types. I hope they dare to copy System Shock 2 this time around instead of just "dumbing down" the game even more (which seems to be the trend). Dumbing down is a blunt and pretty offensive expression, but I think you get my point.
  11. I think so few games are trying to be scary because it's so easy to fail. And if you fail at being scary when you try, you come out looking like a joke (FEAR 2 anyone?). Come to think of it, I've only been genuinely scared by System Shock 2. I have no idea how that game got under my skin so much. I've gotten a few scares from other games, but not for an entire game like in System Shock 2.

AWW! I thought this was going to be a thread about hot chicks. Screw you guys, I'm posting anyhow! Isla Fisher
  15. Since when does stylized = cartoon?
  16. If they could make a Fallout version of World of Warcraft (streaming maps, gigantic world, highly stylized yet low-tech graphics, lots of content), I'd be very interested. If they make a Conan version (tiny maps with loading times in between, small world, great graphics to no avail, no content after a certain level) they'll end up like Conan: slow, painful, degrading death.
  17. Are you saying there's been hardware made exclusively for Vista that doesn't work with XP..? Feel free to point me to an example because I've never heard of anything like that.
  18. My mom liked the new Broken Sword games. Does that count for anything?
  19. This might sound harsh, but.. does anyone really care about these personnel transitions anymore? Game developers are like McDonald's employee's: easily replaceable, no company loyalty whatsoever. Would be interesting to see the average employment time per company for the average game developer. I'd bet 2+ years is actually uncommon!
  20. Not really newsworthy perhaps but.. For us who struggled with getting good performance from Gothic 3, no matter the settings, this might come as a surprise: Source: http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showp...mp;postcount=93 Let's hope they can keep that level of performance all the way to the end!

He's injury prone and way too soft for such a big guy. But he'd usually score around 20 goals so he wasn't all bad. Not much improvement to the Leafs at the trade deadline but not much worse either. We got a couple of second round picks back at least.
  22. Woohoo! Very much looking forward to this!

Have fun with Antropov, Rangers, God knows we didn't.
  24. The link was taken from the thread on GSC's board. You know, the other game developer's board..? The torrent technology is not illegal. The file I linked to was released by the rightful owner as a fan service, so it is not illegal. I did not link to any copyrighted material, so that was not illegal. There was nothing "pirate" about anything I posted. Please explain to me again why my post was removed.
