I just chased away the last people from my birthday party. It was pretty cool, even though we're all going to a party tomorrow (and a hardware expo) so there was no booze involved. And it's now 19 minutes past midnight (where I am) so it's too late to congratulate me now. So **** you all for forgetting my birthday!! Heartless bastards.

I know what you mean about the graphics. Gothic 2 was released in 2003, but the engine it was built on was made in 2000-2001, and it only had minor upgrades since. A lot has happened in those 8-9 years.. Just going from Direct X 8 to Direct X 9 was a huge step forward. Gothic & Gothic 2 were Direct X 8 based.

I remember reviewing that! It was really difficult trying to explain the rather bland graphics to the Need For Speed: Carbon kids.. Also, I thought it was too difficult. But it was very well made.

The season has been ruined since game.. 40 or so. The remaining games means **** and only makes us lose positions in the draft lottery if we win. And still I get a good feeling in my stomach when the Leafs beat the Flyers! How illogical is that?

It doesn't really matter which Gothic you play first, since they're all pretty disconnected and the tutorial in the beginning explains how you ended up in the situation you are in in every game. But if you want to follow the story of the friends you're surrounded with, Gothic is the natural place to start. You have the same gang with you from game one to three, although in Gothic 3 they become pretty shallow unfortunately. I blame it on Piranha Bytes not having enough time to finish the game (the standard excuse). If you're going to play Gothic 3, you HAVE to remember to install Community Patch 1.7! It's a completely different (much better!) game with it installed. I am playing it now and I am amazed at how good it has become. http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showt...d.php?p=8871228 It's big but definitely worth it. The best part of the series is Gothic 2 Gold, but beware: it's dead difficult. You CAN screw up your character so badly that you'll never be able to finish the game without cheating! You have to remember that one character can't do it all and not try to become a jack-of-all-trades. And pump a lot of points into hitpoints If you're starting with Gothic, beware of the controls. The game was originally intended to be keyboard only but they implemented mouse controls as an afterthought. It takes a while to learn them, but if you stick with it, they'll feel natural after only a short while. Also, expect crashes in Gothic, even after the final patch. The game is not stable. Save often. It's a fantastic game anyhow though. By the way, I bought that Gothic Universe pack myself.. which means I have bought Gothic 2 three times, Gothic 3 two times and Gothic two times.. I'm a stupid fanboy.

I got like.. 850+ achievement points from just playing the game. There's no skill required in Fallout 3, you just have to do the quests and follow the story to "achieve" the points. But oddly enough I got used to the achievement sound and little graphic and after a while I enjoyed hearing/seeing it!

The lead platform is PC, for starters. Wizardbox aren't involved in the actual game development, they're the ones responsible for porting the game to Xbox 360. Also, there are no randomly generated dungeons at all. I have no idea where he got that from. Oh well.

And yet again we have someone writing about how disinterested they are about a game, in a thread dedicated to said game.. Please. Elaborate how not interested you are about this game. We're anxious to hear more about how this game will not suit you and how crappy it will be. Humour us.

I don't really understand the critique against Deus Ex's combat. I think it's the best implementation of stat based fps combat I've seen. Compared to Bloodlines or Morrowind (ugh), it's absolutely fabulous. The problem with the combat in Bloodlines was that even if you had your sights dead on a target, you would still miss it if your skill was low. That felt incredibly wrong and frustrating. In Deus Ex, instead of making you randomly shoot around your own aiming reticule, they made the reticule move around as if held by an unsteady hand. This, to me, is a much more natural way of showing how the character skill influences your own aiming skill. At least you weren't tricked into thinking you would hit something like in Bloodlines! Also, I felt it was incredibly rewarding to finally get that unsteady hand to become steady, with the help of weapon modifications and skill point spending.

I thought the cityscapes looked fantastic! Let's hope their next game mixes it up a little. All jungle can get a bit repetitive.

Yeah, the developers themselves have claimed that they made the world too big and that they didn't have neither the time nor the resources to fill it to the usual Gothic standard. That's why, in caves, you'll see the same syndrome that plagued Oblivion: chests with randomly generated content. For Risen (their next project) the world will be about the same size as the original Gothic and everything will be hand placed again. Still, there's enough to do and see in Gothic 3 to make it interesting. If none of the 550+ quests takes your fancy, then there's always exploring to do. Not everything is hand placed, but there's still lots and lots of stuff to find. I'm never bothered by wandering in a game, but I don't think the problem is that bad in Gothic 3. If you look carefully in every town/village/camp you visit, you'll be able to find teleport stones that lets you immediately teleport between them. Sure, you have to walk to all the places initially, but after a while you can zoom around the gigantic land in no time. I've played some more now and the game is decidedly harder with the new AI! I haven't been stunlocked by wolves (so I assume they removed that "feature"), but then again, I didn't survive for two seconds when ambushed by a wolfpack so I don't know if they didn't stunlock me because they can't anymore or if it's because I sucked so much and immediately died. The best part of Gothic's world is how honest it is. If something is there, it's really there. If you see a window on a house, you can look in from the outside and look out from the inside. Nothing is painted on. If you see it, you can climb it! With the working jump, you'll be able to climb almost anything. No invisible walls. Ever. I can't get over how cool that is. The only thing missing is more interaction with the world. I would love to be able to roll around the barrels that are everywhere. Break the crates. Tear down the fishnets that are hanging to dry in the villages (or at least have them sway in the wind). I'm having a blast, even though it's a bit tedious to start from scratch again. And I'm only level 5 or so because combat takes a lot longer now that everything fights back. Let's see if I manage all the way to the end this time. I won't try to do ALL of the quests again, that's for sure!

I don't know. I've been so cautious that I haven't been killed by any animals. Yet. I should try and see if they can stun-lock you again if they get the chance.I would be surprised if this wasn't fixed though.

The engine modifications are made by Spellbound, the company hired to make Gothic 4 (or Arcania: A Gothic Tale as it's supposed to be called in the US). I'm guessing they've been upgrading the engine for Gothic 3 simultaneously as they've been building it for use in Gothic 4. The new AI is almost certainly theirs too, it's impressive. The other fixes (dialogue/spelling/head resizing/quest fixing/NPC and item placement/etc.) have been made by a team of the community. They have fixed several thousands of bugs during these patches. This last patch fixes over 700 bugs in itself! The changelog is MASSIVE: http://snorre.jowood.de/~community/Gothic3...hangelog_en.txt It's an amazing achievement.
