LadyCrimson, what was your take on the opening scene? Was it a WMD test on an alien world?
-
No. TBH it's getting into hyper-nerd territory for me, like people who want to speak Klingon. Because once you start trying to make rules for linguistics the whole thing falls apart (I know i'm a bore about Neal Stephenson's REAMDE I love that bit) Next thing people will want to know about authentic in-game pasta recipes. And stuff. So although linguistics is a fascinating topic, I don't want Sawyer applying his Spock-like brain to explaining why Celtic and Italian / Latin - inspired names coexist.

This is why we need to cast the high-level spell :: Summon Vin Diesel :: He's a hardcore gamer and a very nice guy to boot. I would like to see a Vin cameo in this game if he pledges. Riddick the Barbarian! How do we contact him, he's not on Twitter.

The first printing press, courtesy of Johan Gutenburg, appeared in 1450. This invention is right up there with penicillin, the Internet, the machine gun and all sorts of other, radical world-changing technologies and discoveries. The printed word allowed ideas to percolate up and down the social strata of societies in a way we might struggle to understand, or take for granted, right now. In fact, the written word was a vehicle of the Reformation, and later Fascism and Communism. Like the Internet, it was a force for both positive and the negative. It accelerated education. It was instrumental in the emancipation of the oppressed. In short: it was a Big Deal. Now in Project Eternity we have a world where, for some reason, technology has developed unevenly. Imagine how much more dangerous that world might be --- where guns and mighty galleons, a world where Gods can inspire the development of bombs, coexist with dark aged superstition and dogma? So this thread is about that. Start with a counter-factual if you wish, or perhaps how this fits in with the lore of the world. And I know that printing presses aren't as sexy as swords, spells and loot but in the context of the setting I think it's an interesting topic.

The Paper Doll Thread

I love Titan Quest but that GUI is too.... schematic. And it had a tiny Tetris inventory. -
The Paper Doll Thread
Monte Carlo replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I mean, what's not to love? I want it to *feel* like a PnP character sheet. And although I adore IWD, I actually think the character screen is regressive and too.... nicotine brown. And by the time we got to BG2 something strange happened, especially with some goofy armour design and off-hand weapons. -
The Paper Doll Thread
Monte Carlo replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I actually like the structure (if not the overall design and assets) behind Diablo 3's GUI but for this game I want to see something evocative of the IE games. A blown-up avatar from the game is OK, but a beautifully realised paper doll is better. -
I have. They say you only know when you're giving enough to something you support when it *hurts* Man, my wallet has taken a critical hit.

Dwarf Society
Monte Carlo replied to Volourn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Volourn has been obsessed with Dwarves for as long as I can remember. It's a harmless fixation, although I suspect the integration of demi-human and humans in the same culture might irk him slightly. As a traditionalist, I am fond of red-beared Scottish dwarves and therefore have a soupçon of sympathy for his position. -

Did I mention I was tone deaf. If I joined a marching band I'd be the bloke at the front with the stick. -

If you ever need someone to sing rude songs, very badly, in an authentically drunken London accent then I'm free.
