  1. Eh, there's still value in discussing things, in my opinion. Even if it just comes from having an improved understanding on the varying perspectives. Even then, that a mind isn't changed immediately doesn't mean it eventually won't. You could probably zip back to earlier posts of mine on this forum which would include me being confused towards a woman saying that she'd only be able to play Alpha Protocol if she could play as a woman, complete with me justifying my position based on my experience of "I have no problems playing a Lara Croft or something similar" as though her experiences and preferences should be analogous to mine. Yeah, the value in that is probably either enjoying reading your own stuff or just practicing expressing the idea. Both have some merits, especially the latter as that helps in later battles. Being only able to play a game if you can play as your gender is something a bit silly I find, ultimately your PC's avatar isn't experiencing anything, you are - your choices and the reactions that drive them (well for an honest rather than alternative exploring playthrough anyway). I guess it's a matter of letting oneself go for a little while. Fairly rare outrage over a game, mainly seen it for the Witcher games, myself.
  2. I don't know Malc if I can get you to agree with my perspective and embrace various social issues that would be a huge victory. As I mentioned before sometimes its just about giving someone a different perspective, so now next time you buy a game maybe you buy a game a game that doesn't objectify women...small steps Malc ...small steps...."Rome wasn't built in a day" Well, I guess it helps to aim ridiculously low to make it worth doing...
  3. Looking forward to hearing more about Runemaster. Some info from a person attending the announcement at PDXCon tweeted the following: -Norse-themed RPG. 3 classes, 6 races. (Berserker, Skald, Runemaster) -Races: Troll, Giant, Light Elf, Dark Elf, Human, Dwarf -Some people will try to prevent Ragnorok, others will try to bring it forward -Huge, procedurally generated map -- and 6 different worlds. -Turn-based combat -Emergent story-telling -Actions lead to consequences that lead to different quest arcs -"We want a single game to be long. 50-100 hours." -"Crusader Kings as an RPG" -Re: multiplayer "Technically possible, but we're focusing on other design issues right now." Also, apparently it will be playable later today at the Con, so probably more info then Sounds good, how much DLC can we expect from this ?
  4. New stuff from Paradox.
  5. Ah, the joys of defeating that copy protection at an Office Depot, heh. Those keyboard overlays were fun, except when they started to fall apart.
  6. Can you make a copy of that and mail it to me ?
  7. alanschu has quite the backing, it seems But it does go both ways, but as the stuff here is insignificant it works in your favour so to speak as you're clearly not aiming to help save women or anything by posting here. Heh, though it'd be interesting to see how trolling is classed vs disagreement.
  8. http://www.gog.com/game/silent_service_12 Silent Service 1 & 2 released Hm, wonder if they'll get more MPS games - I miss playing F-117A and GS2k
  9. Realised the perils of bad design in CiM2. Also it can be fun to try to salvage things, heh, but now I see what people mean by the pathfinding being silly as people will crowd a bus stop to transfer to another line whose stop is in walking distance of the first one, or will transfer off a line to another line and then back to the line they were on in the first place. Giving that a rest, now though.
  10. Also, posting about this kind of thing here isn't going to affect or change much.
  11. Actually, asking him for Chechen ones would be more amusing.
  12. Works for me though, granted mine are technical and I'm not trying to engage some types for sales or something. But good to see you as cheerleader again. Remember I did say adopt it, the attitude you approach it with affects how nervous you are.
  13. Wow, such analysis from the likes of you. Doing a presentation isn't meant to be exciting, if it's monotonous and not done in a warm manner, who cares, you communicate your idea well enough and that's it. They lose interest, well that's their problem. It's like a University class in that regard, a prof told me that worked for him when he started, at least with large lectures.
  14. For the record, the Disneyland castles for Cinderella (multiple references including Moszna Castle, Château de Chaumont and Alcázar of Segovia) and Sleeping Beauty (heavily based on Neuschwanstein Castle) were based on real castles not just some flight of fancy. Well with regards to the last one, the guy who comissioned that was pretty into flights of fancy, no ?
  15. Makes sure you communicate it as coldly and efficiently as possible - just up, throw it at them and done. Given that you're presenting something I'd imagine you also have something worth saying. Unless you have a burning need to waste your time, I suppose
  16. I dunno oby posted some nice looking women, albeit the photos were overly processed like some here. Oby, post. *throws dart* Armenian women.
  17. Steam apparently was acting up, removing some people's games, giving them ones they never bought and re-downloading updates. I guess it's resolved now?
  18. Epicurus has a nice quote about death, so I guess you should treasure each day. Or something. Deep freeze continuing here, need to invest in a pair of long underwear, or something insulating I can wear under my pants. Walking home results in my skin frozen, bah. But at least I got to come home to watch Die Hard 2 - sadly without Mr. Falcon in it.
  19. And our mayor's at it again.
  20. Also, adopt a feeling of disdain for your audience. You don't get nervous presenting to things that aren't human.
  21. I'd imagine you'd have to get involved in some melee-monkey stuff, you can't keep everyone at range. But anyway, looks promising, 'inverse kinematics' makes for a good buzzphrase.
  22. http://unknownworlds.com/ns2/natural-selection-source-code-released/ NS1 source code released, for the curious
  23. I do agree, that if these are the problems we have as a society, then life is pretty good for us. Yes, it can be good PR (though I couldn't quantify how much, nor how many people see it simply as a PR stunt and consider it a negative. Wildstar seems to have its share of people decrying developers forfeiting their artistic integrity for the almighty dollar). Still, I'd rather have discussions about this over a lot of other things, simply because if I am discussing this then my life is likely at an improved level of comfort than it otherwise could be. Yeah, if only these were the problems the west had to tackle, even within the context of discrimination. I'll have to check for myself how big this "outrage" was, but I don't think it was all that large at least from first looking, but who knows. Even if it is a small segment, though, I suppose it's not worth it getting the social justice crusader types on their case like RPS, else interviews with them will be come ambushes like HoTS Well, you failed at the first part of your post, but that is SOP for you. This is just a red herring and I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you're just trolling, because you seem smarter than that. As Nonek put it in the news thread, the degree of verisimilitude for one's physical appearance will still be important to some people. You can see similar discussions on this forum with regards to Pillars of Eternity, based on whether or not armor styles should be heavily stylized or have a stronger focus on functional plausibility. Not really, was aiming at certain game types are going to require certain body types, so you're restricted there and you'll still see people upset over that, oddly. Which was pretty much what you referenced Nonek as, but I'm relieved to see you give me the benefit of the doubt.
  24. This industry is more entertaining to watch than the stuff it produces, some times.
