Uh huh, prepared to do ground fighting. What happens if they can't cut it ? Full on invasion by US troops and then the utter storm that will result from that ? Barring the death tolls being as high, I can see a western attack and/or invasion resulting in most of those problems with terrorists operating in the country (Islamists are in the rebels now, no?), infrastructure damaged or destroyed and the region a bit destabilized as people get uppity over the West bombing a fellow Arab nation or whatever. Largely, seems less risk to just not get involved (and can save your lives and money), not as if the Syrians will be grateful.

Hard to say that Syria would end up in the same state post "intervention" (more than they are now anyway - was funny to see the mighty USAF essentially working for terrorists/rebels) as Libya did, as well. Hard to say what would be left after airstrikes, how easily Assad's forces would crumble or if they would at all. The West doesn't magically make things better, after all.

Coworkers are strange, one wasted my time telling me about the tragedy of the commons and why I should care about the state of a fridge I don't even use. Though the fridge is pretty nasty, has milk in there that has expired months ago, containers of spoiled food and an ice pack that is leaking (well, in the freezer half).

I tend to stick with innocent until proven guilty. Certainly served me well. For the most part it works out, but it's the rare exception that burns the most. But in any even assuming people are nice is a fine stance, just not for me. Sadly.

Yeah, the cynics are almost unbearable. Well one's sensitivities are one's own. Not even seeing anyone being very cynical or anything, most are realistic about the situation. The rest has been a Serb-Croat argument, oby's usual production and Mor campaigning as if anything is achieved here. I think someone mentioned this thread just being people arguing past each other. And nothing wrong with being cynical, mind you, the reaction you describe is pretty much is the best one when one is confronted with things beyond their control as not everyone is going to heed the call to crusade.

Because it's an easy way to project an appearance of wisdom without actually being wise. "People are ****" is the easiest answer to give and is flexible enough to accommodate everything in life, from schoolyard bullies to politicians trying to find a solution to a crisis involving countries with populations totalling close to a billion souls. It's also stupid, but that should be obvious. Seems people expect a lot from their preaching and ranting here.
