Why is ME better/worse than other Bioware games
Strix replied to Nick_i_am's topic in Computer and Console
You just invalidated your ability to rate characters, those in KotoR II were vastly superior to Kotor's. -
Looks semi-interesting, although from what I've seen it will probably just be another Crysis - all flash and no substance. Although I do like the fact that you will be able to "let the heroes die first," as there are too many games where your forced to take the "good" path and do not have a viable "evil" option.

Yes, yes, we know your theory and how you like Carth... -

Are we thinking of the same Carth? Your "waah, waah" description fits him perfectly. -
Anyone played Area 51 or Full Spectrum Warrior?
Strix replied to mkreku's topic in Computer and Console
Nope, although I'll certainly try them out now that they're free. -
The flow of your post, and the words used, do not indicate that you are talking about Oblivion when referring to consoles having a cap on their FPS. I will admit that I could have been clearer than I was, however your continued fixation on the post is not warranted.

You have forgotten that I specifically cited Oblivion in line two and explained why I did so. Both games use the same engine and, most likely, the same graphics settings on the 360.

The link doesn't work - it's censored.

Yes, in the case of Oblivion - the game in question.

Did you manage to get pictures or did the zombie dragon eat you before you were able to?

And pray what are the "traditional values" of America?
-
The game is capped, not the system, if I remember correctly.
-
I disagree. Consoles run at a fixed frame-rate and lower resolutions than PCs and thus the performance is often better than low-end systems running the game at higher resolutions. If you expect to run Oblivion at 30 fps -if I remember correctly that is what the 360's cap is- and at 1024x600 with 2X AA you do not need a "sate of the art PC with the latest graphic card," and since Fallout 3 is going to use an optimized version of the same engine I would expect that you could easily match the performance of the console version with a mid-range PC.

All links to the expansion have been Google archives and not active pages, this makes me think it was a mistake and not an actual product.

Nevermind, I figured out what happened - I had accidentally deleted a registry file and that caused the problem. This can be closed.

Well, I'm not what I did but now every folder and file that is, by default, supposed to be hidden is clearly visible - and, no, I did not choose to make them available via "folder options." As far as I can tell the "hidden" tag has been stripped from every file and folder that had it, and re-starting has not fixed the problem. Is this an indication that I've picked up some horrible form of malware or is it an unusual glitch that I'll be able to live with?

Well, I do not know about this particular card, but if you look into the 8600M GT you will find plenty of documentation regarding the differences between retailers. Some, like Dell, use the GDDR2 that is set at a slightly default higher clock speed* but is less stable when overclocked, while others, like the higher-end Apple laptops, use the GDDR3 version that is clocked slower out of the box but can handle a higher level of overclocking. Of course there are also 256 and 512 versions of the cards as well and other things that might affect where a card came from -I would guess, although this is purely conjecture at this point, that there are more manufacturers of 256 "M" cards than there are of the 512 version- and who offers it. *At least I believe this is the case, I might be mistaken; although I know the GDDR2 are at least as good as the GDDR3 cards if the latter is not overclocked.

...childish notions such as dragons... I wouldn't utter those words on a forum moderated by one. *hides* I don't get the joke I am afraid - which mod is named after a dragon or has a dragon avatar? <---- It's a link...
-
Different versions of the same card are sent to companies, thus Dell is not likely to have the same supplier of "M"-cards as, for example, HP. At least that is my impression of how the system works.

Just make sure you remove the TAGES protection, it's easily done and will make sure that the DRM does not activate when you play with a fixed .exe - although it, TAGES, will re-install if you ever play from the disc again.
-
Yes I had one for awhile, although mine was the old linux version and has since been given to a programmer I know as a small token of my appreciation; anyways, I've gotten to play around with one of the new XP EEE PCs since then and it's a nice little machine. I might get one if I ever need another ultra-portable. Humm... I doubt it as Win 95/98 drivers do not, as far as I know, exist for the Intel 910 Chipset and Realtek audio. Here's the ASUS forum on non-XP Windows OS. And I found this list of games that you might want to look over as well.

Ouch, that forces me to discount NVIDIA... thanks for the warning. I don't know, the article only mentioned HP mobile chipsets so if you're not buying from them you would probably be ok.

Long rant on RPGs and comments on Obsidian

Exactly. The designation is subjective and thus can fluctuate from person-to-person.
