What are you playing now: The New Thread
I'm postponing Stygian because I love everything about it so far and don't want the impression ruined by jank, which is being fixed daily yet. So back in traipsing about gates of Baldurlikes. Second one is so much better than the first (which sucks) when compared side by side, you'd think it was created by different companies. BG2 is legit good and fun, rich selection of cheeses and all. Here's hoping that none of the party schmucks rats me out to Imoen about that 20K I collected twenty times over before deigning to drag her ass outta prison eventually, but then, she's a strong gal, always finding her way out of that dungeon on her own because I never take her back. Fromage du jour: make a nice circle of traps around the dragon, ooze up to him in jelly form, poke, the rest of team pelts him with spells from behind while he's ineffectually trying to stomp on jello.

Is this news about Pillars 3?
bugarup replied to draego's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I don't think that Numbery Name considers good writing as an advantage, seeing how little attention he pays to readability of his own posts. And thinks DOSes are good, that too.

Pictures of your games 12
And I made a RPG protagonist, only old lady instead of young dude because grannies are sorely underrepresented in video games. Though I'm having doubts about first playthrough with frail schmoozer. Maybe I should reroll as some sort of dumb brute?

Awwww, it looks so pretty and I am so torn between "Wanna NAO!" and "Never play a RPG before patch 1.0 at least"

Had a difficult session of "Inventory Tetris" minigame in "Baldur's Gate 2", where I got dragged into encounter a bit...pft, waaaaayyyyy over my low level head, decided to go with it anyway, killed half a party and had to drag their stuff back with minimal losses because it happened in the place of no return. Good bye, my bolts+1 and wand of summon monsters, remaining charge:1, I will never forget you. 😥

A few early observations from a backer
bugarup replied to MedicineDan's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)Ow. Did the doctor say what's causing this? In any way, my condolences and do get well soon, will you? (And don't forget to wear Arkemyr's robe when he summons you for a little chat) And that beasty down there isn't really that dangerous, he just looks intimidating (and hideous). Gotta say his tactics of being really ugly worked, because I left him alone too on my first playthrough.

After playing Kingmaker..
bugarup replied to Kilburn's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I am d†cking about Black isle games right now and have a sneaking suspicion people just miss the incredible fromage of Baldurgate, because while you can play Deadfire's classes in different and varied ways, and some combinations are noticeably more powerful than others, there are no class/item combo that'll turn you into a Minor God of Cheating while BG2 has tons of these. Not gonna deny, there is certain charm in, say, waltzing into some lich's crypt wearing Sanctuary and robbing him blind while he just stands there, but I still prefer Deadfire's approach. I am human therefore will always choose the path of least resistance, and if the game gives me "LOL in your face, beholder" shield then of course I'm going to use it instead of buffing up to wazoo and kiting that thing around in hard way. Deadfire's (POE1's too) "no win button" policy, however, makes me exercise my imagination and I need that in my old age as it unfortunately deteriorates. Oh, and I jumped back into some old saves of Kingmaker to try out that turn-based mod. It's quite good really, and I can finally see and understand how stuff like Magus class works, but hoo boy does the mod put the spotlight on overabundance of trash encounters. (And I would sooner sign up for cleaning public toilets in the city with epidemic dysentery than play through that dreadful endgame house again).

Oooh, Stygian, the third game I ever preordered! Also, pay a homage to classic RPG protagonist and go Young Materialistic Male Criminal.

Drinking Laphroaig. Funny stuff, tastes like scorched tires but in a good way.

Anyone Else Replaying Fallout: New Vegas?
I'm always replaying New Vegas. That thing's pretty much permanent fixture on my PC. Install Windows, install antivirus, install New Vegas, home sweet home.

Best Companions for Story/Dialogue?
bugarup replied to bmardiney's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)The dwarf is a sidekick, meaning he has no dialogue input in the main game (he has in one of the DLCs though). If you want a chanter, you can always class Tekehu into Theurge, he's very good at it with a benefit of being involved in the story and having a lot of stuff to say.

I am finally, hopefully done with dull near-identical forest squares in Baldur's Gate and entered the titular city. So, when you're hit by cutscene incompetence and get surrounded by a mixed horde of fighters, casters and demon summoners, you can: a) observe which one is the most dangerous, what spells they open with and stuff, then reload and prepare with scrolls potions etc accordingly OR b) reload and toss a fireball or three at the empty area next to the fog of war hiding the mobs. After all, you already know what they have to say. Not that I did not appreciate PoE series before, but ploughing through all this drudgery makes me appreciate it even more.

Still slogging about BG. Found the kobold labyrinth; it appears my memory had helpfully suppressed that ghastly abomination but now it's all back. I still do not remember anything about my playthrough years ago, except since now this very godforsaken dungeon of tedium and emptiness. But then, it is my quintessential BG experience: dull, dreary, annoying to travel about, no good loot, reload whenever a trash kobold successfully hits you because it's embarrassing to have 50% of total HP (which is 4. 4, Karl!) sheared off by trash, then stumbling upon some random hostile mage and reloading until Silence connects. Can't wait to play "Baldurs Gate 2: sans rose-colored glasses" edition. 🧐

bugarup replied to bmardiney's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)*scribbling down uses of Miscast* Then you reload and voila, problem solved. I'm kind of experiencing similar things in BG extended, where the wild mage occasionally wipes the party, but more often she drops a cow on an ankheg. As for "no free gays in Medieval times", then first things first, PoE setting is no way Medieval and does not even try to emulate the age, unlike various DnDlikes, so going "Forsooth, dost thou thinketh about thy gayes in Medievale tymes" is a little hypocritical.- TV and Streaming: The Thread
Binged on "Chernobyl". Great stuff. Acting, camera, minimalist soundtrack, everything. Empathy points gained: for being upset about human and pet deaths equally. Empathy points lost x2: for wanting to replay S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: SoC.- SW: The Old Republic - Episode VIII (May RNG Be With You)
The answer is, as ever, moar C2H5OH. For house Inrokini!!!! 🤘- What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
"Dead state" left me craving for moar classic zombies, unfortunately there are no other RPGs, so I'm playing "Rebuidl 3: Gangs of Deadsville" which is some sort of city builder-lite with zombies. In other news, the BG party just left Nashkel mines. Some arsehole wizard in the exit map caught me in a dialogue with combat-only exit. Dropped the wizard, died to jellies. Noticed how much XP he gave, wiki'd "custard jelly", reloaded, dropped them all. Still had to haul Dorn's cadaver to the temple, but now I have a nice wizard's robe...only wizards at lvl 2-3 are still a liability...oh well. The robe's still nice though.- SW: The Old Republic - Episode VIII (May RNG Be With You)
Here be Sith Juggernaut soloing this H4 in efficient way if your soul is not yet crushed enough. Got a few characters that got natural 50 from group flashpoints and PvP trolling, did some grinding here and there for other purposes and no way in sith-scorched hell imma grinding for CXP. Fortunately if there's any benefit from all that time I wasted in the MMO it's gained resistance against OCD and completionism. Cheevos shmeevos. 😏- SW: The Old Republic - Episode VIII (May RNG Be With You)
Well, at this point it would be stranger if it was not delayed, what with their skellington crew and stuff. I'm wary about that new wallpaper thingy, though -- it is abysmally ugly and looks like it's been done by different people united only in bad photoshop skills. Here's hoping their art team is still more or less intact, the last two flashpoints, torturous as they are to traverse with a non-stealther, are incredibly beautiful. As for PvP, used to do a bit of low-mid level drunk pvping with the maximally annoying class, the healing scoundrel. You can have so much fun of different flavours of trololo -- you can heal your mates, you can stun dudes, you can stealth out if chased and then stun dudes...good times. Of course, if you come across a coordinated team that knows what they're doing you are dead in seconds and then kept dead, but in all my times I encountered such a team maybe twice? Aaaanyway, I did this enough times to gather a solid number of cheevos and I still don't have a faintest idea what were the goals of those pvp arenas. They must have goals, right? What with having win states and such.- What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
"Dead State". Good writing (so new Bloodlines will be fine in that department at least), meh gameplay loop and I'm saying that as someone who cannot resist hoarding. Also trying Baldur's Gate EE because I realized I cannot remember sh†t about it, started and now I see why. Some observations: 1) low level DnD sux, 2) Larian will be on par with their writing, 3) I forgot how much of a pain in the arse trying to climb up/down the stairs was. - Best Companions for Story/Dialogue?
