(John Woo's) Stranglehold demo on Xbox 360 Marketplace
Morgoth replied to J.E. Sawyer's topic in Computer and Console
I'm gonna wait to pass judgement on Stranglehold until I've played the demo myself. But I'm expecting graphical inconsistency, as I still believe the UE3 isn't as good as Mark Rain often likes to tell people.... Edit: On the bright side though Mass Effect looks kick-ass, at least the digital actors. Now I wonder how many comprehensive changes Bioware had to make there with UE3 to achieve this level of detail... -
Okay, the best gaming system is....*thinks* *ahhh* *uhmmm* *scratches head* PC!

(John Woo's) Stranglehold demo on Xbox 360 Marketplace
Morgoth replied to J.E. Sawyer's topic in Computer and Console
Crysis runs at an absurdly low framerate except when on very high end hardware. If you're running Vista with DX10 on a system with quad SLI, I guess it looks pretty sweet. Absurdly low? How would you know, have you played it? Crytek wouldn't want to allienate a huge percentage of customers by requiring a DX10 Quad SLI rig to run the game with adequate framerates. Now of course low texture resolution for flying props won't break the fun for me, it's just kinda sad that there's always a lot fuzz and hype about any new Unreal Engine, and as soon as people get their hands on a game which utilizes newest Unreal Tech, there's usually much groan and complaints afterwards. It was the same with Unreal2 as well, they fed the journalists/fanboys with nice DX8 demos, just to find out that the final product was a DX7 game and not so good looking as promised. -
Real Breaking News: Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer

Nice! I thought that piece was lame. Hopefully it isn't final. -
I second that. PC only please.

(John Woo's) Stranglehold demo on Xbox 360 Marketplace
Morgoth replied to J.E. Sawyer's topic in Computer and Console
Broken except for the fact that the game is fully functional and is coming out long after Gears. The textures look strange because their lighting model and focus are different. Gears has virtually no environmental reactivity. Stranglehold is filled with destructible objects. It's not surprising that the textures and lighting look so different. So much for "Next-Gen". Years long trumpet noise, and eventually everything has to be dumbed down again. I wonder how Crysis manages to remain constantly high graphics quality even if you can destroy pretty much everything there too? -
I got into the beta of... Settlers VI
Morgoth replied to Jorian Drake's topic in Computer and Console
The only game a ever cared from BB was Incubation. That was fun (and hard). Settlers? Meh. -
(John Woo's) Stranglehold demo on Xbox 360 Marketplace

It's because they worked with a broken UE3... (read the Silicon Knights case). And no PC demo available yet. -
So she wears an Obsidian T-Shirt huh? Maybe some forum member around here... Darque? Musoopticon?

Why keeping a cool name like "Irrational" when you also can slap a boring corporate name like "2K Blablah" onto it? Click

I always felt D&D did much damage to how CRPGs are perceived these days. Just look at the Codex. In order to make progression, you have to think forward, not backward....thus, D&D has to die, once and for all.

I never really cared much about that Influence system. Surely here and then in Kotor2 there would pop up some "Influence gained/lost", but that never really changed my attidude towards a particular NPC, nor did I feel I came closer to one. Picked up every line just so that the old hag would always reply "When the time comes you'll learn more from me, Noob". Pft.

I prefered the HL1 setting. Research complex filled with geeky Scientists, Canyons filled with nasty Marines, Canals filled with suicidal Facehuggers (remember the one that jumped out of a pipe and fell a mile deep?) just gave the game a certain charme.... HL2 just lacked a bit of this humor.

No way. Id Tech4 isn't as versatile as Source, not to mention that Source allows more aesthetical options to the artists, and offers better tools (FacePoser for example). Besides of Raven (Quake4), the Engine was never used from any other developer, another evidence that devs need more than a mere realtime Bumpmap generator.

That would be a ridiculous decision. WoW is playable on most computers because they don't overdue their art resources. 9 million subscribers means keeping it simple. Ridiculous indeed. In times where terms like Next-Generashun has become a religion, and where even the way superior Quake3 engine would prolly insult the capability of an iPhone now, one may wonder what has driven Blizzard into such odd decision. On a more serious note, I understand that the majority are probably Chinese customers who can't afford a Bok Rig , but really... they could at least take the engine to SM 2.0 at least and maybe up the Polycount to 200-300%. It still would remain a Low-End game for most rigs out there.

Well there're gay people who can handle it quite unobtrusive, and then there're the sort of gay people who just push the infamous "gayish" too far. I guess these gays are an embarrassment for other gays as well, but are unfortunately being put all into the same pot.

When will they stop putting WC3 models into WoW and actually start create models that have more than 100 polys?

Why would someone want to play these dinosaur-age games anyway? And even have to pay for it?

I hate the word "Western World" even more than "Deutscher Lebensraum".

A horrible transgression indeed. But I've seen more powerful pictures that exerted crime on humanity. Just search for WW1 pictures for example...

The US Army doesn't train soldiers, but button smashers! Maybe they'll hire some hardcore gamers next.

Why are you always so negative? I've stated nothing negative in my post. Carmack is a good programmer, but the less he is involved in game design, the higher the chance the game becomes actually good. There'll be a story in Rage, for example. That's quite an improvement.
-
With Beth and Id taking the rein on PA, one can only guess that publishers now become a lot more "approachable" to the PA setting. It's becoming the new Fantasy now! After everyone gets sick of it of course so that Orcs, Elves and Paladins become "Original" again. Hehe.

Woah, Rage is DEFINITELY added to my "looking forward to" list! We once had a thread on this board where we were to describe the game of your dreams and I described a game set in a post apocalyptic world where the gameplay was half RPG and half racing game (with upgradeable vehicles). This looks to be damn close! GO GO CARMACK! This isn't a "half RPG, half racing game". More like "Mutilated FPS, with some ****ty Racing". Was probably Carmack's dumb (as usual) idea to put Racing into it. Otherwise, neat setting.
