  1. Oh, there were societies with absolutely no socialism. However, these were assimilated by the more socialist societies. If you want, I'm sure you can go out into the wild and live your life like some kind of monkey, like even before the concept of tribal socialism was invented. You know, the mere existence of a government is oppression of the many towards the few, since there are people who believe there should be no government and would rather not pay a dime to support it. If you look at societal evolution through history, you will see "non-authoritarian collectivist" ideas prevailing over "authoritarian individualist" ideas, with "authoritarian collectivist" and "non-authoritarian individualist" governments appearing very rarely and always ending up being worse alternatives to their counterparts. To give examples of these; Non-authoritarian collectivist government - Social democracy Authoritarian collectivist government - Communism Non-authoritarian individualist government - No government at all Authoritarian individualist government - Kingdom/Theocracy/Fascism Authoritarian governments are defined as those where the leader(s) have absolute power over the individual member of the society. Collectivist governments are definied as those where you are forced to share wealth with other members of society and large class differences are not possible. Absolutely individualist governments are defined as those where a member of society can potentially profit from other members of society arbitrarily much.
  2. OMFG. Even though I think the Modern Warfare games are stupid, this sucks. Activision should have some respect for artists' creative control over their creations. I'm all with the IW founders. However, there are some dubious parts of the lawsuit. Among other things, it claims that their Notice of Discharge contained "identified conduct that other Activision executives engaged in with impunity". That is a curious way of putting things.
  3. Okay, so latest news: http://www.destructoid.com/deadly-premonit...in-165288.phtml I've been discussing this game with some friends and I am seriously thinking of buying a 360. That would be the only console I've bought in my life, except for a Sega Megadrive.
  4. It seems in the US, people don't want to pay any taxes but still elect leaders which wage expensive wars and/or employ expensive protectionist policies to support obsolete industries. Obviously, that system is going to crash somehow.
  5. Gas Powered Games? If he made Demigod, then he surely has some semblance of good taste.
  6. Yes I agree, Obsidian should definitely hire the original development team (except for the one who was responsible for animations) from Arcanum and create a sequel. Hey, you can always dream, right?
  7. Caesar III is basically THE classic citybuilding game for me. It's a pity I already own it.
  8. LoF is completely right that there's no hard evidence that Iran is producing a nuclear bomb. However, it is also true that if Iran develops nuclear power it will be a very short step to also make nuclear bombs. And unless you have spies among the people involved in the project, it would be almost impossible to detect. So if you're arguing of however Iran is actually producing a nuclear bomb, the people who say they are not will, except under extraordinary circumstances, always win a comparison of facts. But then, Israel and maybe North Korea have nuclear capability. Pakistan and India, in addition to Israel, have nuclear arms but have declined to sign the NPT treaty. The US has actually used nuclear arms against civilians. So there are already a lot of nations who own nuclear arms under doubtful conditions.
  9. OMFG. First Fallout: New Vegas, then WoT, and now FF? Obsidian will be through every major franchise I know of until Alpha Protocol is released. Or something
  10. I find it ironic that it was the US which originally threw Iran into dictatorship, and now they want to make the country democratic again... Nonetheless, the current oppressive Iranian state must fall and be replaced by a new system. It is doubtful how other countries might help without risking violence to break out though... It is also important to remember that the people of Iran are deeply divided between the progressive, liberal urban areas and the religious radical conservatives in the countryside. And on top of this you have the Revolutionary Guard. Let's just say that due to the complex political system, it's hard to say who really controls Iran today. The western media often make things look like Iran is on the brink of another revolution, but I'd rather say that Iran is on the brink of civil war, if the country is really on the brink of any kind of political upheaval.
  11. I don't watch the Olympics. I read an article in one of Sweden's largest newspapers about it though, where the journalists sent to Vancouver said it was badly organized, with horrible (warm) weather and the only good thing was that the Canadian journalists were nice to hang out with. So, I am probably not missing a lot.
  12. Looking around at the Red Eagle website, it's hard to not get a feeling of reassurance. These guys seem professional, yet definitely they have some semblance of good taste and style. The fact that Obsidian are not alone in this, but backed by EA and Red Eagle might not be so risky as it would seem.
  13. Another World 2 and Deus Ex 2 are decidedly not good sequels, or at least not better than their predecessors. I'd say RA2 is also a not-so-good sequel, but I guess a lot of people won't agree with me!
  14. I's a horror adventure game that got a reputation for having some explicit scenes. It's really more of a cult classic than a truly good game. But I think a lot of people will find it 90's-kitchy and it that is perhaps today something that makes the game more enjoyable.
  15. I've read the books and I'm very excited over this, however I'm unsure about the role of this other developer. Those guys could really **** this up if they prove to be a pain in the ass.
  16. VtM: Redemption is probably the only game I've bought and but in the trash bin because I was ashamed of owning it. It is a waste of time, don't play it. Although it's been many years now, I still remember the dungeons were incredibly boring and repetitive.
  17. It sounds like lots of fun, but I plan to do some work this summer, and I'm not sure if I'll be going to any festival.
  18. It really sucks. And even though it has some bright parts, that only makes you angry because you know how the game could have been so much better. So even if you would manage to play it halfway through before you die of boredom and/or irritation, you will still only be angry.
  19. What about a Rundstedt-88? Maybe you could get it from Sie...
  20. i don't know... maybe that there were indeed WMDs in iraq and they got either hidden, or removed, without the CIA knowing? maybe after being decimated by the cliinton presidency, the CIA simply did not have the human presence in iraq necessary to hear about what he was doing and when? Doesn't that go back to what Rostere said about "the CIA has no clue about Iraq's weaponry"? You really haven't shown any other choices. This. i don't know, you'll have to answer that for yourself. however, you made it pretty clear that you believe the US leadership would lie, and that you would prefer that such a belief is true. you also have made it pretty clear (over time) that you do not agree with their ideology. two plus two. where did i say that? i am basing my statements purely on what you have said. Obviously I would not "prefer" that the the US leadership is lying. Why would I want them to lie? That could potentially lead to a lot of very bad things. Also, you did not write anywhere that you believe that people whose political views does not agree with your own are lying. I merely thought that since that was what you thought I did, you were applying your own thinking patterns on me. That is a most common way of thinking and one of the tools that facilitates understanding other people. For example, if you see someone crying, you often come the conclusion that they're sad, because you cry when you are sad. This has piqued my interest from a psychological point of view, I'm really rather curious as to how you thought when you came up with that argument. (The argument that I would believe people to be liars because our political views were not the same. Also, if that was true that would infer that I think most of you guys in here pull a lie every once in a while, when your opinions differ from mine! )
