  1. Yep. Or at least, I watched one preview. What about them? I actually haven't played GTA 4, but I've played the older titles in the series and I must admit I really don't like them. Red Dead Redemption appears like the typical GTA formula with the simple addition of a new "Western movie" appearance. It is probably the setting I would least prefer, among anything I could think of. At least it seems that the story does not force you to be a criminal, like in the GTA series. Also, I don't really like other free-roaming games such as Fallout 3. They tend to be lighter in actual content, spreading it thin over a polished surface. Often it's hard to motivate yourself to do any actual exploring.
  2. Typical of the industry today. Not that I'm going to buy Red Dead Redemption anyway, it looks like just another **** game to me...
  3. That would explain his uneven performance on Torment and Drakensang. I mean, the fact that the guy didn't even work on the latter. Although I know of the original Realms of Arkania trilogy I haven't played it myself, so no comments there.
  4. Would you, really? I don't think so. YA RLY. I have very strong moral convictions. But let's not talk about that here, this topic is dedicated to Satan
  5. I wonder how you can even compare Drakensang to Torment in that way. I mean, suppose this german dude really influenced Torment more than Avellone or any single one of the "big guys" in the design department did. And then he went and made Drakensang, which is 1. Not at all similar to Torment (as computer RPGs go), 2. Not at all as good as Torment and 3. Features probably the most bland and uninteresting fantasy setting ever. I mean, it's not that I think Drakensang is an outright bad game, it definitely has some merit, but the story and the imagery is decidedly sub-par. Whoever did the game mechanics, combat and such, deserves some kudos but the rest of the game is really not anything I would like to be associated with if I was in the gaming industry. Now, what made Torment so good? Mainly the art, the story, the writing and the interpretation of the setting. These are exactly the areas in which Drakensang is extremely lacking. So why would Guido ever want to create a game with such abysmal quality in these areas, if he influenced these areas in such a positive way during the production of Torment? Can you explain that? Or which areas of development did you mean Guido Henkel influenced during the development of Torment? On a side note, I find it laughably absurd that someone who hold Torment as their favourite game would hold Drakensang in such favour I am intrigued by your most peculiar taste in games.
  6. None of you mentioned you can replay the game with the character you finished it with in a harder mode, with some extra quirks. Kind of like Nightmare and Hell in Diablo 2 I guess :]
  7. Exactly my thoughts. If you were to assume that everything in the Bible is true, I still wouldn't be a believer because of this. I'd rather burn in hell than worship an immoral God.
  8. And what the hell does political correctness have to do with anything posted in this topic? lol. Obviously nothing.
  9. This is what I would drink: Cooled to about 2-5
  10. Conscription is unjust, yet all we get if we choose to hire a professional army are these gun-loving goons. Those are about the least suited to do peace-keeping missions in foreign countries. It is a mess either way. I think the best for most western countries today is a compromise between the two.
  11. First, that text was from 1973. But, it is still awesome because of the amount of text dedicated to "Could a person who masturbates be a true Marxist revolutionary?". I'm almost going to put that into my sig.
  12. I agree. Please make it optional to remove this, at least for the "hard" mode .
  13. The US seems to me today like the guy everyone knows who is nice to hang out with but keeps borrowing stuff and money from others. While American culture does not seem to be on the decline, as we speak (write? lol) the economic situation looks more and more dire, with higher debts, decreasing number of people with master's degrees (mostly due to a lot of people retiring. I don't know about the number of newly educated), and no one wanting to pay the taxes. Personally I don't understand why you keep voting for these people. It seems that in the US, the only real choice is between borrow & spend and tax & borrow & spend even more. It is however true that the US has an undeveloped social programme. It could be that it is unwise to spend money on it now, when there are perhaps more pressing matters at hand. But yeah, let's instead look at countries without the issues of the US and what they managed to do right. I'm sure we will come to more conclusions that way.
  14. "France: Strangely Introvert"
  15. Alpha Protocol. Starcraft 2. Nothing more at the moment though =(
  16. The difference in sales between AP and Red Dead Redemption is 15000. Personally I think AP has more PC preorders than that, so... Above Red Dead Redemption, we've got Madden NFL 11. Remember now that the preorders chart is only covering the US, and not Europe. I estimate the number of preorders on NFL 11 in Europe to be about zero units. I can't remember having seen a Madden title in a European store, and I can even less imagine anyone play it... But accounting for the european market and for PC would mess a lot of things up in that chart, so let's stick to analyzing the amount of initial AP sales! My only real point with the above reasoning is that a lot of console exclusives would drop compared to AP if you don't account for PC. I we compare the US and EU sales charts, we find that Americans are more prone to buying new games - 22% of top sellers in the US are new games, compared to only 4% in the EU. Which means, the initial sales will come mainly from the US. Since there appears to be no "Europe preorders chart" on vgcharts, I check out a local video game store (Webhallen) and check their charts, where I find that the interest for AP is stone cold. I would estimate that AP is around place 35-40 on a console preorders chart for Europe. Taking all things previously mentioned into account, plus comparing with the american preorders chart, yields about 15000 preorders in Europe, all consoles. So, in the end we get about 100000 preorders total (when not counting with ad campaigns from SEGA, et.c.). But how large could ordinary sales the first week be? Bad Company 2's sales in the US first week were 6 times their number of preorders 3 months before release (PS3+360, American market), and considering the relatively low interest for new titles in Europe, we take 6 times the number of american total preorders plus 2 times the number of European preorders. Total sales in the first week would therefore be about 500000 units. However, I don't expect AP to have the same momentum as BC2, so, a figure of less than half of what I mentioned is probably more likely ... phew
  17. But if you add the 360 and PS3 to each other for other multiplatform games as well... You're right, of course. That would make Alpha Protocol 8th place, just behind Red Dead Redemption, while FFXIII grabs a secure top spot...
  18. If you add the 360 and PS3 numbers to each other, Alpha Protocol grabs 6th place... And then we're not even counting the PC sales. That's good to know, if you want to compare to all the other games in the list. I figure Obsidian have their asses covered, even though a few more preorders wouldn't hurt.
  19. Every time I read someone posting about Spellforce in forums, I confuse it with and get very happy to hear about people playing such an old and obscure game :S
