  1. The experience with RPGs in general and games like NWN2 helps a lot... There is big difference when I play the games, and my sister plays them... she is much into RPGs but she plays only 1-2 games per year and even if i roll her powerful main character, she has more troubles than me with pure Roleplay characters without exceptional stats or powerbuilds...
  2. With DA nothing, with EG.net credibility a lot
  3. Oh yeah Eurogamer... after their fiasco on Darkfall review i rather avoid that site... full story about it (Darkfall developer's PoV on it) http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=185060
  4. i would recommend you at least for this estate either picking up healing henchman or buy tons of potions... myself i found it very difficult to play any CRPG without healer...
  5. Fate of atlantis is worth getting excited over, the rest... eh. They didn't really pick and choose the cream of the crop (The tim schafer and monkey island catalogues are suspiciously missing...) Maybe they no longer hold the rights to them...
  6. you can spin it how much you want Stealing a game is not the same as Downloading a game nor the same as Releasing the game them as your own (aka your plagiarism) If their gonna Dowload it, they gonna break the Copyrights owner Right to make copies of the product... aka they will infringe on their COPY RIGHT!!! Correct terms should be used...
  7. He told they were going to steal the game... that would mean the codex guys decided to go into some shop and rob all the shelves dry... Stealing a game != Infringing on the copyright of the game owner... that's a fact, so don't try to be a smartass...
  8. Stealing = removing the item from rightful owners ownership Infringing = breaching copyright of rightful owners intelectual property two very different things
  9. From what I gather on Codex they plan on infringing it, not buying it a soon as possible Fixed for you...
  10. Of course, and when they prioritize money (sell as much as possible) over the art itself (make the best thing ever!), they hereby sell out. This !!!
  11. the new 3D engine... their 3D stuff made zillion times bigger money for iD than selling all of the Quake and Doom merchandise combined...
  12. I wonder why that happened? *points at evul EA* Are you kidding? Mythic missed deadline after deadline on WAR. If you go into work and start a 3 year project, and it gets stretched into a 5 year project, you have messed up and you are lucky you don't get fired. I'm surprised how much time they were actually given on the game. Maybe it's because the 3 year deadline was an impossible goal to meet? I worked as programmer (not as a game programmer though) for some time, and i would say, that of all the projects I worked on, only 3 had realistic deadlines... everything else was plain impossible to offer the demanded product on time... so some content had to be cut... after some while, i just said the money i got, was not worth the stress and overtimes i had to pull for my employer and at the end almost always me and my coleagues getting blamed for not delivering the product on-time... put some marketing clown, who has no clue how long the working code has to be created in the lead of the project and your product fail even if you put your best into it...
  13. I wonder why that happened? *points at evul EA*
  14. IMO having your own engine can be good thing, you just have to use it for more than 1 game, or your expenses will skyrocket... good example is Bethesda, although we all know that their engine is one of the clumsier But they still can use it for all their games, and from what i have seen in Oblivion and Fallout 3, they are upgrading the engine aswell...
  15. And Activision is very close to the same position, what is the most strange thing to me is how Blizz got into Activision they generate like 3/4 of their income and that was the case even before the merger to Purkake: I will not yell against Source engine, althought i did not get similar results from Source than from UE3, and Source could be marked as last gen engine, because it is pretty old already (dont shoot me please for saying that please )
  16. Epic might not be the best game creator ever, but let be honest... could you imagine today's gaming without their 3D engines? I blame Unreal Engine 3 for all the weird shiny models in Bioshock etc. UE1 was a great improvement, though. ye i still remember the day i seen Unreal 1 for the 1st time the engine and what you could do with it was brilliant at that time and about UE3 if it is good optimized it can make wonders... my PC could be marked as utter-crap (single core AMD Athlon 3500+ 2GB RAM and GeForce 9600) and i was able to get from Unreal 3 constant 60FPS at 1680x1050 resolutions... what current gen engine can offer similar results? EDIT: and i never said there is no innovation in games, but expecting it from every single game which is released is not good idea

  18. Good point with Achron, I forgot about that. But really, the most innovative background story of a game I can remember was HL 2's Orwellian world but Orwell (duh) already did that too. Just not in a video game. Mamoulian: My point exactly. All they can do is tell the story differently - which is by no means a bad thing in itself. At least someone will eventually make it the way I like it the most. yay, i found a soul with similar thinking Yes you are absolutely correct, but my point is that DA even though with absolutely unoriginal story can still be very very good game... (although with EA in charge i have still my doubts about it ) Judging quality of games by their story is never good idea...
  19. You can't make those stories different anymore, to many games released already, thats why the main story of dragon age is so similar to warcraft 3 for example... Spreading blight - check Big bad Demon Lord - check Old God emerging - check
  20. They are stagnating, because they spent more than 10 month with developing a game... Of course you sell less, if you spend making the game 5 times longer... Most of the Japanese companies prefer quality over quantity... The exactly same can be said about Final Fantasy XII for example... I'm not sure you understand what I mean by stagnating. That the whole JRPG genre is pretty much at FF1 with it's story and characters, there is no innovation, the only thing they are changing is the combat system. Having a real-time combat system was a great innovation... JRPGs are pretty much the definition of quantity over quality, there is so much grinding and going back to save points and redoing stuff. I'm not saying that short annual crap is any better, but at least it ends before you do(die of old age that is). when did you played JRPG last time for more than 30 minutes? Or all your oppinions are based on reviews? oh yeah... absolutely different at west right... you know FPS are still the same concept as was wolfenstein 3d... just with 3d graphics... all RTS are same concept like Dune 2 was just with shinier graphics... all RPGs are sam concept as Dungeon Master I just with shinier graphics... all Racing games are same concept as Stunts... you know as good as me that all this is absolute bull****... and same bull**** is saying this about JRPGs...
  21. They are stagnating, because they spent more than 10 month with developing a game... Of course you sell less, if you spend making the game 5 times longer... Most of the Japanese companies prefer quality over quantity... The exactly same can be said about Final Fantasy XII for example... I can see that, and it is the least favourite game of the series for me...
  22. Are you seriously comparing Final Fantasy games which has except the name of few summons and monsters nothing in common and are developed for 5+ more years, with half baked ****s with 1 year development cycle??? Why yes, yes I am. They are all sequels and FF games are pretty much repeating the same age-old JRPG crap over and over and over again while occasionally changing the combat system. Mirror's Edge might not have been my favorite game, but at least it tried something new, same for Portal and World of Goo. I want more original games and less crap with increasingly bigger numbers on the end. oh noes!!! So EA made 1st decent game after Desert Strike and it is setting the example for awesomness to all other companies... LOL If you dont like JRPGs dont play them but comparing them to milking cows with new sequel every year for every console and handheld is ridiculous... I dont like FPSs but i would never compare HalfLife 2 (which is crap for me) to any of these pieces of ****...
