That's why I overlook the fact that Igni is horribly overpowered as it allows me to pass annoying fights quickly. Glad you ultimately enjoyed it though. Edit: The last part was too easy anyway so I wouldn't call it a loss.

I love being able to explore in the Gothic games but sometimes they go too far: The worst part is that I alt-tabbed out and alt is the jump button.

BREAKING NEWS: DAWN OF WAR 2 DETAILS
Moatilliatta replied to Llyranor's topic in Computer and Console
Just blowing my own horn: Did you watch the teaser trailer? I have very little to base this on (he uses a hammer) but it could be like... a hint. Also in case you guys didn't notice I posted the DoW2 site further up (which has the teaser trailer and music and 3 screeenshots). But I do agree with Nick that the glove fits a little too well to have major doubts. -
If we're talking about the same place (you have to "escape"/exit old vizima, right?) then I too had trouble getting through there and remember running back and forth. I do remember that I had to fight monsters between aarding baricades (i think i aarded 3) so that might help you find your way if you too have to. otherwise I'll also suggest tawny oil and aarding like there is no tomorrow. If you're completely stumped, you could try and upload your most recent savegame and I or someone else could see if we could figure it out.
-
I used this: Get and Set CPU affinity to solve my dualcore problem.
-
Did you side with the order in CH4? I'm not sure what you mean with the aard baricade in chapter 5, the only thing that I can remember that could be something like that was when I in the neutral ch5 had to pass barriers of rubble with Aard, which was difficult and not exactly stellar design. I think I just moved along the edge of the rubble and continually fired Aard. Also I wouldn't stop now when you're that close to some of the most interesting quests and other stuff in the game.
-
Yeah, I just hate it when people draw necessities from trends and might possibly be a bit too jumpy on the issue. I actually don't think we're in the minority unless you're only polling the internet. I also think that much of the less-global game design was quite good, some of the levels were very innovative and fun, not to mention some of the better quests.

Found this on wikipedia: Couldn't hurt to try. But most of the time stuff with dangerous components are usually best to take to your nearby professional.

Am I the only one that has a problem with statements such as these? An IP doesn't get tired, the developers get tired or just plain suck, so long as you aren't fallout-fan strict about what the IP can and cannot do. And yes IW wasn't bad unless you were a huge fan of DX and also had high expectations, I had fun with it.
-
Actually, wasn't the reason IW felt so cramped was because the engine had to be constrained to Original Xbox specs? This is what I remember from it as well. Still doesn't mean that its inferiority can be accounted for by the console argument though.

BREAKING NEWS: DAWN OF WAR 2 DETAILS

Site up: DoW2 website There is sound in it, in case it is relevant. Also I think the screenshots are new (and awesome), it seems quite obvious that it is essence 2.0 and not a completely different engine. Also: News release Trouble selling them perhaps? -
Is it possible to use guns in it and do they feel like guns? I always wondered about that when I was contemplating buying the game and I never actually read into it, it does seem to me that it wouldn't be easy to balance guns vs. swords.

Ken Levine: Computer game plots must be stupid
Moatilliatta replied to Slowtrain's topic in Computer and Console
Somehow the people who register and vote on IMDb doesn't strike me as the general public. Most of the people who watch films don't vote on IMDb and as such it only mirrors the wishes of a couple of nerds or semi-nerds who care about such stuff. -
Ken Levine: Computer game plots must be stupid

Because I like that kind of stuff? I could give you a longer reply but I won't as I can't be sure that you will see it. -
GI exclusive screenshots
Moatilliatta replied to funcroc's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
You're referencing stuff like the glass staircase? No it isn't the exact same but I would agree that they need to talk to interior designers and learn how to make interesting apartments. Also these screenshots have my official aproval of awesomness. Indeed, it's good to see that Obsidian isn't a barrel sympathizer -
Ken Levine: Computer game plots must be stupid
Moatilliatta replied to Slowtrain's topic in Computer and Console
I must say that I'm a bit concerned about how many developers (including Levine and many other devs) talk about their fear of players missing stuff in their games, that players find everything on the first playthrough isn't neccesarily a parameter of succes. -
Ken Levine: Computer game plots must be stupid
Moatilliatta replied to Slowtrain's topic in Computer and Console
Complex plots != good plots. The plot that Levine mentions that was dumbed down (70 years over three civil wars) would have been pretty annoying and confusing for the player (most likely). Levine's approach probably saved Bioshock's plot and as such I'm not complaining, since his oppinion won't spread to those that do make somewhat complex plots. Oh and it does say 2-april-2008 in the article. -
They both worked on it, Mark couldn't concentrate due to personal reasons and it was given over to Jeremy Soul at some point.
-
I'm sure that the fact that a barrel is also a measuring unit helps it win.
-
If only it was that simple. Consoles would be so much more awesome if it would only utilize multiple control schemes i.e. mouse and keyboard for stuff that it is best for (FPS, RTS etc.) and controllers for the stuff that it is best for (Racing games, fighting games etc.).

Halo Roleplay Game for Internet Forum Obsidian Team Go!
Moatilliatta replied to Krookie's topic in Computer and Console
Hundreds of mice comes crawling out of the woodwork and the unholy console critters fall back from the advancing armies of all that is right and good in the world: -
Where did all this intervening talk come from? Most of the proposed stuff doesn't suggest intervening but rather different forms of classification and judging products. Or do I remember most of it wrong?

You do have a slight point so I'll change my definition: "An act of intentionally inducing significant and permanent physical or mental scarring meant to extract information or a confession" A boss threatening to fire an employee wouldn't fall under that definition, also my definiton only mention acts meant to extract info or confessions, acts of forcing others to do your bidding by intentionally inducing significant and permanent physical or mental scarring should be included in a completely correct definiton. That wasn't my point though, I had two: 1) Torture isn't just inflicting pain as there has to be a purpose for the pain. 2) There is indeed a definite point where a person would say that it is indeed torture that is used. This is because torture isn't a vague concept like baldness can be. Also while the definition could be subjective instead of objective, there does indeed seem to be a very specific definition of torture that most people in the western world would agree upon, you dismissing the definition as pointless doesn't mean it is. Also I'm not arguing that the ones that I try to put forth are in any way full proper definitions of torture but are merely meant to illustrate the beforementioned points No the CIA doesn't use some of the most humane interrogation techniques in history as many interrogations are made completely without using force. Also I never directly compared waterboarding to chopping off peoples hands, gouging out their eyes, or simply shooting them in the back of their head. I do count waterboarding as torture though and I'm not the only one: Dr. Allen Keller, the director of the Bellevue/N.Y.U. Program for Survivors of Torture, told me that he had treated a number of people who had been subjected to such forms of near-asphyxiation, and he argued that it was indeed torture. Some victims were still traumatized years later, he said. Source:http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2005/02/14/050214fa_fact6 I remind you of the patient I described earlier who would panic and gasp for breath whenever it rained even years after his abuse. Source:http://intelligence.senate.gov/070925/akeller.pdf#page=6 Are you still gonna argue that waterboarding isn't torture? As to your plea for alternatives: Anything that finds itself withing the constraints of simple human decency. Regular interrogation techniques aught to suffice and would have the added benefit, as Walsingham is so nice as to mention, that it is actually possible to put a great trust in the info as the person giving the info would have little to gain, unlike in situations involving great physical or mental anguish as short-term relief tends to look good in that kind of situation. Now that I believe I have answered your questions sufficiently let me pose you a questions: Would you find it acceptable if torture (e.g. waterboarding as used by the CIA) was used to extract information from you? This is cetainly a logical possibility and I would be interested in hearing your answer. Waterboarding isn't as bad as other examples of torture bit that isn't an argument for using it, it simply means that the CIA are leass bad than e.g. the taliban which is a pointless point as both can easily be said to use unacceptable methods.
-
You need to put some purpose into that definiton, sand, otherwise me kicking you in the shins would count as torture i.e. something like "An act of indusing physical or mental pain meant to extract information or a confession". It should probably be widened somewhat as it could be argued that torture is used for other purposes than just info or confession extraction.
