  1. I were excited, you know, when it was announced. I probably will be excited when the hype hits me again. What alternatives are there? They can't do the same timeframe again without the game being relatively repetetious in the story department, and going before the prohibition would be a no-no (Blackmailing gets old fast when that is all you do), so the only other game they could make would be to make the game about the sicillian cosa nostra and that doesn't really fit with the first game.
  2. Wouldn't the world of the elder scrolls games (Tamriel mainly, but I guess there could be other continents in that world) be an example of a world which is somewhat interesting? The crutch of creating ones own world will always be that it requires a lot of work first to create and then a lot of work to communicate to the players. It will be interesting to see how Bioware handles it with Dragon Age as I don't think their earlier games (not counting Jade Empire as I haven't played it yet) have been good examples of games that are good at introducing the player to the world around them. I personally think that it is indeed possible to create interesting games around the forgotten realms, the problem is that D&D usually follow and I think the developers will need to reinvent that rule-system if it is going to be anything but a hindrance to the games greatness. They also need to leave the sword cast and anything near it, or have a very specific focus on a part that hasn't been touched lately (Waterdeep? Above ground that is)
  3. Oh that kind of source, my technical ignorance is showing. Did they also improve resolution and other graphics stuff that would make the game more accesible to people who care about such? Also about breezing right through it, are the changes made mostly features that makes the games smoother and easier to play for a modern gamer, and as such irrelevant because I already have the non-source ported games?
  4. Wait what, how does that work? Are they capable of using features from source or is it just the old games capable of running (better, since I think they are capable of running without a port to source) on newer hardware? Edit: Oh and I voted PC, because PC while having a higher price tag also has games that are more fun and actually designed for the platform.
  5. Finally an MMO game where the developers can't avoid perma-death!
  6. Either Bioware are a clever bunch of bastards or I would be right in my guess that the KOTOR MMO only ever existed in the mind of fanboys. The Bio MMO is obviously a Baldurs Gate MMO because that would be awesome.
  7. Thank you for being the first person I have seen who have wished him captured for a reason that didn't include bloody and painful retribution. The irony of these mass killings is that it usually brings out un-likable traits in the people who see it, such as the revenge wishes. What kind of monitoring and care? If what Musopticon? has told us is true then there is no need for it, since individuals acted on the signs that he gave, the real problem is with such strange notions as cultural superiority (It can't happen here!) and general cautiousness (I better not interfere because of x reason) when it comes to confronting relative strangers.
  8. What is the difference between a simulation of sex on the screen and a simulation of killing on the screen? I doubt that the teenagers are associating the game cards and sex parts with real sex, more likely they are associating them with the sexy parts of the game, like most people do. The fact that the witcher is a game helps a lot to create distance between the acts that you do in game and the acts that you could do in real life. I also don't see where the difference is between an arousal from the cards and the small adrenaline kick or whatever we get from FPS games. Your mistake is the assumption that there is a necessary difference between killing on the screen and sex on the screen, and unless you can point out why you should be allowed to make that assumption, then your entire argument falls. Another point is that it isn't even sex on the screen, since that could include movies with actual actors. It is sex on the screen of a computer running a computer game with graphics that are not lifelike. I really should detail it more, but I'm afraid of ruining games for me. I don't know why so many people focus on the racy parts of the game. The parts that originally got me hyped and which still are the parts that I mainly want to buy the game for, are the advertised elements of having to make hard choices and not necessarily knowing the consequences. That mechanic could be very interesting, but also very annoying, so I want to try it out myself. But wasn't the central vision to make a game that draws heavily from some book or something? If that book contains sex and harsh language even from the minor characters, then that does take away from the central vision. The question that I think is relevant is whether it takes enough away that it would make a difference i.e. does the player feel the missing parts. Anything can be a wallpaper and there are many official screenshots out there. On the other hand, I would support this notion if you're talking about pretty hand drawn concept art. I demand pretty walpaperized concept art.
  9. Perhaps not, but that doesn't mean you can't explain it. Unless you're being lazy which is always an entirely valid reason for anything.
  10. Could you explain the above for someone relatively new here?
  11. Your point about MMOs being bad even after patches is a truism and as such worthless. Games are made in a specific way by the developers, and the developers obviously won't create a completely different game through patches, but instead use the patches to augment their vision for the game. I fail to see your point as it is true of singleplayer games too, if you disagree with the vision then you surely won't be enjoying the game, the fact that modders have the freedom to be more whimsical with their changes has to with the difference between free time and work time. Oh and how are expansions so much different than mods? In my experience expansions often add more story, exploration, instances etc. to an MMO which is essentially what a mod would do, unless your definition of non-staticness is total-conversions. In the same line of thought I could say that NWN 1/2 is totally static except for the mods. You should probably know that the patches in MMOs (or at least in world of warcraft) affect the entire world and as such all types of players, I played world of warcraft as a predominantly singe player game and enjoyed it a lot, especially when I met those players that wasn't the generic not very nice MMOer and whom I could have fun adventures with.
  12. The difference is that guildwars lacks the massive aspect. Guildwars isn't a true MMO because it is instanced, someone do correct me if I'm wrong as I have never had any great interest in guildwars. Personally I would prefer it to be a true MMO or as someone suggested similar to the NWN buisness model, actuall roleplaying in an elderscrolls world would be awesome.
  13. Actually I've heard they blacklist you if you badmouth the queen!
