Completely agree. Although, when I mentioned the Sagani pic I meant the painted one, not the concept art. Anyway, they're both a good and interesting start. Just waiting to see if they can make a female elf a little less stereotype too.

I actually really like the dwarf ranger pic, if that means anything. I like varity too, and nothing oversexualised... the same applies to men too btw, I rarely play male characters in RPGs anymore because the stereotypical barbarian guy (or US Marine guy in modern games) annoys me to no end and I can't and don't want to identify myself with them. I also really like the non-equal approach when it comes to mechanics, basically the opposite of what Bioware does. It has nothing to do with being a sexist when I sometimes wish that in a good storyline there can be sexism, to make a story more interesting and give a female character the feeling of fighting against the odds. Some games also gave female PCs different stats like less base strength but instead, uh... more will or whatever. These kind of things make things more immersive for me.

They handled it well and I don't think anyone was hurt, looked like a good party - but yes, the comments were cringeworthy. And simply annoying, because none of the more P:E related stuff went through between all the "WHAT'S THIS ABOUT" and "GREEN SHIRT GIRL CLOSER TO CAM PLZ" comments. But I believe that was the "guests", not this community.

- Neverwinter Nights 1/2 and countless modules can keep you busy until P:E arrives. Many user-made stuff is better than the official campaigns too. - The classics mentioned above - Fallout NV is nothing like an infinity game, however I think Obsidian did a really good job with it's writing and humor, much better than Bethesda's Fallout 3 - The Witcher - Drakensang: River of Time

Live recorded music, Poll 2.0

What a senseless post. So you are basically saying that you don't want Witcher-style music in this because CDPR put Nightwish CD in their gamebox and you bought it? And now you bunch Nightwish and The Witcher soundtrack together, even though they are almost completely different? Are you also one of those people who don't like it when mashed potatoes and vegetables touch each other on your plate? I mean no offence, but isn't that basically the same thing? Maybe you could tell us what isn't in your 'stereotypical corner', because you blacklisted almost all styles fitting into medieval setting? This so called "dark metal" doesn't even have it's own themes. It draws inspiration from classical music and if that's banned also then we probably end up enjoying the silence for whole game. BTW I love Nightwish, but I have never been goth nor have I ever been so called metal-head either. I just love good music in all it's forms so don't you talk about stereotypes cause you have clearly created them in your own mind. I was in Nightwish concert last summer and didn't see single goth in audience, but lots of ordinary music lovers from children to elderly people. If you have somehow managed to create antipathy for one of the greatest game soundtracks of all time because of that "stereotypical goth-band" then it's your loss. EDIT: Last sentence in your post is pretty harsh generalization. Just because you have limited taste in music it doesn't mean everyone else is like that. Open mind is best way to approach all music, prejudice is useless and prevents you from enjoying game in full. No, I didn't blacklist almost every style, I think I'm generally very open minded about music. This was just a very personal rant after having hung out too long on the Witcher forums and seeing the style just being mentioned one time too often. I can't even describe it better than I did above, so just take it as what it is, a personal subjective opinion. -
I was often close to raise, but (un?)fortunately I had to use PayPal where it's not as easy as with kickstarter, if possible at all. I kinda wanted a physical tier, but didn't see the point in adding so much just for shipping. In the end though I think I made a good decision in just paying a price I consider reasonable for a new game ($50).

Let's Talk About Easter Eggs ...

I agree. I saw that the kids had fun and surely weren't hurt by Avellone sitting next to them a little tipsy, I'm sure they won't automatically become future alcoholics or mass murderers just for being on a party with adults. Also I think ignoring the really stupid remarks in chat (which the Obsidian guys did) was the best thing they could do and they still had fun with the less stupid comments. All in all I think it was a very fun stream and I really like the whole Obsidian bunch! -

I must say (and I know I won't make friends with that) that I really can't hear "The Witcher" anymore, nor a lot of the Goth themes many associate with it or many Witcher fans prefer. I believe the music would NOT fit a game like Project Eternity, nor will Viking songs or dark metal themes nor the Skyrim score... Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Witcher games and think they're a shining example of how mature RPGs can look like when not following the typical north american and/or tolkienesque conventions. But the first HUGE mistake CD Project Red made with me was throwing a Nightwish CD into my game box of the Witcher 1. I can't find any words for how much this little detail annoyed me, because it directly shoved the whole game into a certain corner I dislike with passion, and I almost didn't start the game because I was under the wrong impression Nightwish was even part of the game soundtrack. I might've been a goth too in my late teens, but nowadays I don't want my music nor my games being in stereotypical corner like that. And after last night's chat when every 5th comment was "how do you guys like the Witcher games?" I'm just annoyed. That's coming from a person who bought the game 3 times including collector's edition and whatnot. Okay, rant over, but.... I hope Justin or whoever will finally be responsible will make a unique score that doesn't only please Goth/Dark Metal heads, nor wannabe-elf-princesses nor radio listeners. -
Actually NWN2 too. I only finished the OC once and never the expansions, even though I spent 6 years in multiplayer and toolset. Now I finally want to go straight from the start through both expansions... sadly, the OC bores me quite a bit, looking forward to starting MotB again afterwards (which made a much better impression on me back then).

Sounded to me like people were just joyful and maybe a little drunken. Boobs and boner comments? Not all of them were that bad, but some were very loud. Even less pleasant with the two kids watching ("will children be killable in P:E? )... But as was said before, it was a stream open to everyone and I don't blame this community. -

As soon as the female employees of Obsidian were visible in the webcam, the chat exploded with sexist remarks. "Green Shirt" was apparently the favorite of most male virgins. But Obsidian handled it well and everyone seemed to have fun nevertheless. -

I seriously wonder where all the nice and well behaved people from this forum and the kickstarter comments (that's you!) hid last night in chat while the annoying male virgins took over and crossed the line more than once. That said, I think the Obsidians managed it very well and even the "Green Shirt Girl" running jokes from their side were funny, I wouldn't mind her being an easter egg, it was good fun. I just wish some people would grow up and stop crossing the line with really low "boobs and ****" comments, it was really embarrassing. -

Steam and GOG
casa replied to HumanFlesh+5's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
One thing I really like about Steam is it's multi platform support. More and more games come as SteamPlay titles, which means, I can start a game of The Witcher on my Windows PC at home and continue it on my Macbook with OS X later at the same point. I automatically own both OS X and Windows versions and saves are synced. Other than that, there's one main reason for using Steam, and that's Steam sales. -
The thing is, why does it sound "right" just because it is in a foreign language? The names are equally silly in english as they are in any other language. But it seems only when we translate the names that the ridiculousness hits us. "Dreckiger Harald"... naja, würde vielleicht 'nen netten 'Tatort' abgeben... <_<

Live recorded music, Poll 2.0

both. the cinematics were embarrassing, the song some kind of New-Age-desaster. There's beautiful folk music, even a cappella, and english/french/etc. lyrics that actually fit it... no need for such synth-orchestra-enya-style-made-up-language-cringeworthiness (just my opinion of course!). I couldn't even tell her to shut up or that the song was crap in the following dialogue... -

I know many people like this one, but sorry, please not in the game. I generally dislike "Pop songs" in games, they sound anachronistic and cheesy... and I particulary dislike the piece above only for the strong echo effect that makes it too modern and synthetic. This would be one of the occasions where I really turn down the music in the game. Another popular example would be Leliana's song in Dragon Age: Origins, it made me cringe and turned a lovely companion into a... ugh... I just hated it. IF there has to be a singer, please no cheesy reverbs and voice effects, it ruins the atmosphere completely. Go with something classy, when it comes to haunting voices and old music comes to my mind. -
1. I don't need a translation, I play my games in English all the time even if (or because!) there's a translation, which more often than not ruins the immersion for me. 2. I think Germany is a very large market for CPRGs, we love them and we create them too (Gothic, The Black Eye etc.) 2. Give me the PayPal option already, I'm one of those many thousands silly Krauts who can't pledge as long as it's Creditcard-only.

Let's name this game.
casa replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Eternity: Origins? Please please please not yet another xxxxxx : yyyyyy title - if that makes sense. Eternity: Blablabla..., Dragon Age: Origins, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, ... I can't stand those stupid : titles anymore, they're just a running gag, dumb, normal... (and apparently even the word Origins is just a joke nowadays). Don't do what the big publishers do, use a classy name, just a single word would be best. 'Eternity' sounds just fine.
