  1. http://justpressstart.net/obsidians-josh-sawyer-discusses-pillars-of-eternity/ I haven't listened to it myself yet but hopefully it's good!
  2. Cooking, Swedish style:
  3. The areas look great. Would love to go on a vacation on the beach area. Though to nitpick, I think the rock in the water in the upper right looks kinda... weird. Doesn't seem to fit in as well as the other stuff. Might just be me. Fantastic stuff!
  4. Watched Sunshine and did not like it one bit. There was just nothing there that I felt it particularly succeeded at. They don't delve enough into the science for that to be compelling, they don't delve enough into the characters for them to be interesting and they don't delve enough into the scary bits for them to be scary. Plenty of bits that have potential but on the whole I felt like it was a huge waste of time to watch this movie.
  5. Nothing earth-shattering here, but enjoy: http://www.pcgamer.com/uk/2014/04/18/pillars-of-eternity-interview-josh-sawyer-on-world-building-magic-psychic-warriors-and-more/ It could've been mentioned before (I've missed it in that case) but there will apparently be a system where parties with less members will gain more exp than a full party. Companions will leave if you do something that directly conflicts with their interests.
  6. ^--- Good post. Something I have to wonder though. Do people feel that the in-game implementation of BG1's music was actually that good? For me personally, I think the melodies are nice and the tracks do give a sense of grandeur or adventure (perhaps what many people describe as "epic"). But did you guys not get tired of the themes constantly playing and starting over when playing that game? I get really tired of them despite actually liking the music. The melodies burrow their way into my head. Personally I feel that'sa huge danger of introducing too many melodic segments in games, or music that is "catchy".
  7. That was one of few highlights in the Witcher 2 soundtrack, huge disappointment compared to the first game soundtrack-wise.
  8. I also have a request for Justin/Josh, whoever might be reading this. Is it possible that we could get a toggle in the options for using combat music or not? I think it can certainly have a purpose but there are many times in games where I just feel annoyed when the ambient music cuts out, replaced by a gigantic "the end is nigh" doomsday choir, to illustrate that I'm now fighting a wolf. Would love to have the option to toggle that on/off if possible.
  9. I thought this piece was fantastic for its purpose. I hope a lot of the music in the game will be more like this, subtle and unobtrusive. I can imagine how beautiful this will sound if coupled with a good soundscape for the town. I don't want to say anything is perfect but this really hit the spot for me in terms of its direction. I'm replaying Baldur's Gate at the moment and while the music in itself is very nice, the sheer amount of times you hear certain themes is just... not good. It becomes annoying. And a lot of places in the game would've worked much better with something that draws less attention. Other areas work great, like when you enter Baldur's Gate for the first time during daytime and that epic music is playing. Can't wait to hear more! It'd be great to see a video with both sound effects and music sometime in the future.
  10. Yes, I've always found that BG1 drags on a bit through the Cloakwood portion, especially if you spend the time to clear some of the optional wilderness areas. The last time I replayed it, I really rushed to the City as quickly as I could, which helped-- I could space out the "compulsively mowing the fog-of-war off this unimportant wilderness map" so that it isn't all concentrated at the start of the game. I've done some mucking about in CK2 lately, but it's fairly half-hearted. Gaming time is tough to come by with an infant in the house, and CK2 really requires some longer-attention-span playtimes to really get those satisfying "3-generation plan that finally comes together" moments. I'm considering grabbing M&M X to scratch the Old-Skool CRPG itch I'm starting to feel in my fingers. (M&M I was the very first CRPG I played.) Pushed through the Cloakwood bit. Ugh, the mines are just boring in my opinion... Navigating tight corridors in that engine is just not... fun. But but, now I'm inside Baldur's Gate. Feels fresh, can barely remember anything at all from this point on.
  11. Playing Baldur's Gate. Had fun with it though I do find myself getting bored with it, and it's around the same time where the boredom usually sets in for me. Right before heading into the Cloakwood mines. Guess we'll see if I can keep my interest going this time around. I can barely remember playing through Baldur's Gate (the city I mean) since I always quit around this time.
  12. I don't have the EE version but I decided to dig out my old BG1 discs and play some. I only installed some fixes and a resolution change patch. It still feels pretty good to play in my opinion. The biggest issues I have from a user standpoint is A) pathfinding and character speed and B) the journal. Sometimes it just takes *forever* to go places, and when your guys get stuck on things... gaah. I wish the journal was divided into sections for better usability. Other than that, I actually think it holds up well as a fun D&D adventure. It is a bit rough in the early levels (as in, kinda boring at times because of how easy you can die and not always be able to do a lot about it) but once it gets going, it's still pretty fun. The atmosphere, which I always regarded as the BG series' real strength, is still wonderful. Not the greatest game in the world, but still fun to mess around in.
  13. This has probably been answered already (I seem to remember day and night cycles being mentioned at least) but will see weather and stuff in PoE? One of the things that really enhanced the atmosphere of BG, and actually one of my fondest memories of it, is how it would start to rain at times. Coupled with the sound-design in the games, I thought it did a surprisingly good job of conveying a sense of place and nature.
  14. I've been getting into a lot of Michael Jackson lately actually. Always had respect for his music but never really dove into it, and the huge tabloid gossiping and media crap always turned me off from getting into it. Talk about being under a lot of pressure. But yeah, he did a lot of amazing music. And as someone who's never been that interested in it... Man, that guy could dance his ass off. He also did some darker stuff. I find this song particularly powerful:
  15. Welcome to the madhouse! Let's hope it will be a grand game.
  16. Had hoped he would get back to Obsidian but I think he's a great fit for Torment so it's great to see he'll be working full time on that. Awesome!
  17. I have no superstrong opinion for GM suckerpunches, as long as there are opportunities to walk into things and get steamrolled in the game if you are up to the task of challenging yourself (willingly walk into an area with more challenging encounters). At the same time, I think the suckerpunches can serve as a spice to the gameworld. I kinda like the feeling of not knowing when I'll be hit really hard. I think there *is* something to be said for unleashing/encountering something by accident only to get steamrolled completely. I find that kinda exhilarating in a way, and it makes me "pumped" to try and figure out what I should do to win the fight, or to just think "damn, I'm gonna have to wait a looong time until I can try this." I like the feeling of a dangerous world, never completely sure when you're gonna get hit and hit hard. But eh.
  18. Playing Papers, Please. What a great little gem of a game. Who knew working at the border control of a Soviet-like country would be so much fun.
  19. Have there been any mention of system requirements for this? I'm kinda interested but doubt it'll run well on my old crappy computer.
  20. Yeesh, that is disappointing. I mean... I hope the deal goes well for Obsidian and all so we can get more RPGs down the line but this is really not something I'm interested in. Too bad.
  21. The second night where you fight the gnomes while the parents are having sex behind/above you. That was just all kinds of wrong, really hilarious. I also loved the zombie nazi cats for some reason.
  22. Played more of South Park and yeah, I guess it is a bit of slow-burner. The story has taken a turn for the absurd and a few bits actually has had me laughing out loud. The bit where you meet the underpants gnomes for the first time... Wow. That was just insanely funny.
  23. Been playing South Park, just finished the first day (and the um... event following it) and it's OK so far. Think the thing that kinda throws me off so far is that I actually don't find it that funny yet. I mean, bits of the story are cute and funny but most of the gameplay of running around the town is... I don't know. It's amusing because "hey, you're running around in South Park". But a lot of is just flat out referencing the show with no real humor behind it. You can find a million items that come from the show, but how fun is that? It's just "oooh, I recognize that...yay?". Hopefully it'll pick up, but I found the first day at least to be unexpectedly boring humor-wise. The combat is OK so far. Not exactly great but not terrible. I don't find the free-roaming to be hugely rewarding right now as, again, it's very dependant on "this was in the show!" humor.
  24. Finished Dragonfall and I must say I really enjoyed it. Much better than the original campaign and one of the most well-written games I've played probably. Shadowrun is pretty silly in a lot of ways but they really managed to find the right "beat" with the story. Really good, hope they get to make more.
