There is no radial menu added but I'm wondering, what patch are you using? The autopatcher used to work great but now that the related websites are shut down, you can only patch to a certain number. The last patch released was 1.23 I believe. I *think* you can find the patches online somewhere and apply them manually *somehow* but a more knowledgable person would have to show you how in that case. It's worth it I think as there are some nice additions added in the later patches. Also, I don't think you can use multiplayer like that unfortunately. However, the expansion called Storm of Zehir has a 4 party member creation from the start (and then one can recruit 2 henchmen additionally to that). Both expansions are highly worth it IMO (though they're very different from one another) if you can still find 'em to buy somewhere.

I've played for a bit now and while I still find the game to be really clunky, I haven't had any bugs that I would count outside the "polish" field. Had one or two fauly barkstrings from NPCs saying stuff about something I had no done in my game but other than that it's been really smooth sailing as far as bugs go.

I'm always for more skills in RPGs (and I would *love* more in PoE) but that type of gameplay wasn't really that present in the IE games so it's not really to be expected. I don't really know how I'm feeling about the game. It's addictive for sure but there are so many things that annoy the heck out of me. Still finding it terribly clunky. The skill usage sorta loses its fun when you run across your millionth container. Will it be trapped?! Will it be locked?! Ooh the excitement. The combat is... well, it's good and fun when you're fighting humans I think. Snipers can put a real number on you. But WL2's "trash encounters" are just oh-so-boring to go through. Waste wolves and Frogs (good examples since I just went through Rail Nomads), so boring. And exactly the type of encounter that I would avoid putting in a turnbased system. The writing and setting is not grabbing me either. Still, what is grabbing me is definitely the scope. What is it about RPGs like these that draws you in? I guess it's that there is so much to see, the explorative aspect of it is fun. There's plenty of things to find. And the game feels accomodating towards how you play. It's great that I don't really feel like re-loading or whatever whenever I fail a skill check, or when I opt for a certain choice. It's one of those games where you just roll with what you've got and keep truckin'. The freedom part of the game is wonderful. But yeah, overall I am slighty disappointed I have to say. I liked the slowness of it at first but once the repetition sets in, I kinda want to get on with it. The waiting period for using skills for example. At first I didn't care because, hey, using skills is fun! But there is so much skill-usage that it feels really slow after a while. I'm normally all for slower-paced gameplay but WL2 could use some speeding up in certain instances.

CRPGs and Endings
Starwars replied to gkathellar's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I hope it won't be a "gateway" to a new game, at least not expliticitly. I hope this game will feel like it has ended properly when it's done, that it feels self-contained even though we're getting an expansion and possibly a sequel.- 15 replies

I'm through with Highpool and the Agricultural Center and I really hope the game will pick up now as people say. I'm not really looking to be "speshul" and bash the game since everyone else seems to love it but those two locations were not good in my opinion. Very drab and uninspired. I went with Highpool first and I suspect that was a wise choice considering how much I hated the Agricultural area after going there after. Highpool had human enemies which was fun at least. The enemies at the AG were no fun to fight at all, not to mention having to look out for the spore plants. Ugh. Though the "water valve" quest at Highpool was... not good. Feels like they thought up a gimmick (leaving on party-member behind to turn on electricity and different sections) but it doesn't amount to anything. It's just pointless and makes navigating the area more clunky. It's not a challenge, it's just a chore. Good times back at the Ranger Citadel when I activated the bomb though and got a game-ending, loved that even though it's kinda weird they'd have a bomb like that out for everyone to see and touch. What is nice about the game is that it definitely has that... big feel to it. The skill usage is a lot of fun also.

CRPGs and Endings
Starwars replied to gkathellar's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think KOTOR2 and NWN2 have been Obsidian's disappointments regarding endings. MotB was *fantastic* and SoZ was... well, it was alright at least. AP was alright. New Vegas and its DLCs were *great*, as was DS3. South Park was fitting for what it was. This is one area I'm not worried about at all, and I hope they bring reactivity to a new level here.- 15 replies

It will be interesting to see how well they do compared to one another in the end. InXile seems to be hotter on the PR side of things. Wouldn't be surprised if WL2 will do better financially actually. PE doesn't seem to have the same momentum that Fargo has managed to bring for WL2 and Torment. I think their reliance on word of mouth and doing the "screw you publishers, we're friends with the HARDCORE fans" routine are paying off for them, while OE are pretty neutral about it all since they obviously wants to keep doing publisher funded games pretty badly. There's not the same nerdy "fire" behind PE as with the InXile games I think. Score-wise, it is my completely uninformed opinion that I think they'll land within the same general areas. PE will get a ton more backlash though since everyone and their mother has an opinion on the IE games while 0.0001% of the gaming crowd today has played Wasteland 1.

Dumbest thing I read today as they aspire to be completely different things to begin with.

I think the opening is really weak, though I've heard other people say it gets better. It feels bland, bland, bland out the gates. Also made me realize yet again (last time was Original Sin) how much I prefer the 2d background stuff to the wonky 3d RPGs with movable cameras. It just feels oh-so-clunky to me. On the positive side, character creation is a lot of fun, as is the skill usage, and audio is great so far. Love the sounds and the music sets the mood. Just a shame that it seems to be the classic RPG case of having a really weak and boring opening. I hope it gets better and more intriguing.

Playing some Storm of Zehir, always good for a replay I think. Though rolling with a fairly standard party. 4 main chars are Rogue (overmap leader), Fighter, Wizard (who just took some levels of Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep) and Cleric. Picked up the Druid henchman as well as Chir (wizard) but I don't know if I'll keep them. It's a fun game if one feels like playing something like it. Would've *loved* it if OEI could've devoted an entire game-budget to something like it.
-
But they got the funding they asked for, and way more than that. I don't know if I'd count that as "brave", I mean... I think they felt pretty confident that Torment had enough hardcore followers to meet their funding goal. Not that it matters if they're brave or not. Just happy that the game is getting made and that it looks promising.

-The animations *look* really nice but I'm not so sure I'll be crazy about that "walking when close to click, running while far away to click" when actually playing the game. I hope it will feel smooth to control. -The Bloom areas look pretty plastic-y and not really organic and some of the textures are not so good. The outside area look a lot nicer. Nevertheless, the art design look really promising overall. -Love the conversation interface. It takes its place, it's obviously an important part of a game like this. -Writing looks great from what we see here. -I hope that it will not have that amount of voiceacting in it as shown in this demo. -Music is great though I think that horn makes it feel a bit too close to PS:T, feels a bit cheap-o. Overall, this is a fantastic showing for how early on it is. Much better than I expected actually. Very excited about this.

Boys will be boys on the internet (<- sarcasm)
Starwars replied to Starwars's topic in Way Off-Topic
In my world I can say that I don't condone whatever Quinn has done to others to harass them (though I have not read up on it and so I can't comment specifically on that), and at the same time say that I find what others has done to Quinn to be horrible. You however dismiss what's been done by saying "yeah sure Ãt's not right, ANYWAYS...", and moving on to a discussion which in my mind has nothing much to do this woman being subjected to threats of rape amongst other things. Because whatever she has done, it still does not freaking warrant the kind of things described in the article. Instead the terrible thing is all those poor male gamers who are now called misogynist. You don't need to talk to me about gaming journalism, I think it's in a *horrendous* state, hence I avoid it most of the time. If Quinn is to blame for doing something that further weakens the awful state it is in, then yes, that's certainly awful. And still a separate discussion. Each time you bring it up it turns the discussion around to something else, and the continued attempts at doing so makes it seem like you have an agenda against her to the point where it's fine dismissing what's been done to her. And no, I would certainly not saying that talking about how internet threats and the other stuff is a "waste of time". You may certainly think so for yourself, and very possibly the majority on this board as well. But there are plenty of people who are not so submerged in the mechanics of Internet forums, and/or younger people who reads this stuff. With risk of being a "moralist", it is the same as elsewhere in life, everyone helps set standards for what is right and what is not. The internet is a way more extreme and difficult thing because of the anonymous element but it works in similar ways. Just as one should obviously bring out Quinn's wrongdoings, one should be very clear to point out that, no, even with those things in mind it is still not OK in any way whatsoever because that kind of attitude could easily spill over to other people. It is not a way to "solve the internet problems" in case anyone wants to point that out, I'm well aware thanks. And I have many things to do beside condemn threats. As you may know, a forum isn't a way of life. Do you not have better things to do than to talk about gaming journalism in a thread which was not about it? Do you not have better things to do than to educate me that there better ways to spend my time? Do you not have anything better to do with your life than to spend it on an internet forum in the first place? Meaningless questions. Nobody forced you to come and talk about it in this thread, especially if you feel that it's already been discussed to hell and back. Yet you decided to take the time out of your meaningful life to come in and talk about it again. I have no interest in partaking what I'm sure is a full-on internet war between the Zoeists and the opposition and so perhaps this discussion we have is kinda pointless. I'm sure there are plenty idiots found on either side who cross the line in every way imagineable. This thread was about what happened in the link I posted. Not some "us and them" thing, but apparently that had already taken root in discussions in the past here. I've missed that and I do apologize if this thread was redundant, but the simple fact is that I feel that crap described in the OP is not OK in any way whatsoever and I wanted to vent my frustration with that. Because it happens over and over on oh-so-many levels in society. -

Starwars replied to Starwars's topic in Way Off-Topic
Oh please do you think I started this thread to find a solution? Come on. This is a gaming forum with an off-topic section and reading this outraged me. If I even had an inclination to actually *solve* problems like this, the Obsidian forums are certainly not the venue I would use. Just by the tone of the posts here, it seems issues like this have been discussed here before and people have gotten tired of them. Or the whole "nazi anti-male feminism" which people seem to run into constantly (I have a fair amount of friends who voted for the Feminist Initiative here in Sweden and I wouldn't consider them to be anti-male, hence my being friends with them) but which I have never seen personally. I think there is a very large point in talking about the things that happened to her are not OK. Maybe I'm very naive but it is my personal belief that talking about things like this and saying "no, it's not ok to threaten to rape someone, even over the internet" can have a large impact if enough people do it openly. If something like that happened to my daughter, if people started talking on the internet about raping her or worse, if someone actually took the steps to *call me* and make real contact, I would be terrified and furious. Turning the other way, or in any just *suggesting* that it's ok and not speaking out against such things worsen the situation if you ask me. I'm glad you're here to tell me these things. -

I have no idea what Quinn's history is prior to having read this. I'm not arguing whether she is a morally sound person or not. And from my point of view, it does not matter much in the face of what happened as described in the link. It's wrong. Have Quinn done things that are not right? I'm sure she has, I'll take your word for it. I haven't read up on it. Does that justify what the boyfriend did? Does it justify what a small army of internet dwellers did? Does it justify contacting her family "in real life"? Hell no it does not. It is not arguing what she has done. If she has lied about donations or whatever? That's terrible, certainly. It *still* does not justify what was being done. If you find her morally reprehensible, go ahead. I'm sure you may be right in that. But that's not what I'm talking about at all. There are people in Swedish politics who have had to step down because they said similar stuff on the internet (one example was hoping that one woman got gangraped by black people, though using other words, it was in a racist context). It was not accepted (even in the in my opinion awful party where this happened). It should not be accepted here either though obviously we can't force anons to "step down". But it is acceptance to think that "she deserved it", because it is "only the internet" or looking for excuses for what happened. Maybe she was a real **** to the boyfriend? Still doesn't make his actions OK. -

Maybe I'm being two-faced now but I consider the kind of thing that happened to Zoe Quinn was kiiiiiiinda different than a Call of Duty match. I don't think the whole namecalling stuff during CoD games particularly impressive either (then again, I am oh-so-sensitive apparently ), but the situations are pretty different from one another wouldn't you agree? I was called a disgusting homosexual once when I played a female character in Final Fantasy XI. Some dude on his first day of playing wanted me to cybersex him and after I said I was a dude he went off on me completely. I mean, it was pretty amusing in a way but also pretty disturbing because... I mean. Why?! -

The internet is (unfortunately I'd say sometimes) a very real part of the world as it is today. You can commit crimes via the internet, you can harass people via the internet, you can threaten people via the internet. Making a world that's safer for women includes the internet because the internet is a very real part of the world today. Anonymity is of course a huge shield for anyone looking to act like a butthole, no argument there. But mens view of women (and no, I'm not pointing a finger at anyone special) permeates the internet as it does in other parts of the world. I've worked in crisis management for about 4 years. In that time I've had *one* person who was male and suffered abuse at the hands of a woman in their relationship. Now, I'm not saying that there aren't more, because the male's role in society is to be tougher than that and to admit it would be to be weak. But in those 4 years I don't how many women I've met who've been raped, beaten, threatened in various ways and many who have been attacked "through the internet" as it were. I'm against abuse in all forms but let's face it. Abuse from men against women is a waaaaaay bigger problem. No contest. Buttholes will be buttholes, sure. And I never said that one could solve the problems on the internet in one fell swoop either. What I am saying is that harassment through the internet is serious. People threatening to rape a woman (again, even on the internetz!) is serious. It should not be swept under the rug as "it's the internetz what did u xpect com one?!!" Like I said, I managed to miss a lot of this discussion. So did Zoe Quinn do something horrible to deserve what's listed in the article? I played Depression Quest and while it's not the best thing I played I can't say I feel it's terrible enough to call her dad about it. -

Volourn knows the true way to equality between genders is to have both men and women in the same rugby matches. That's the only way! -

Starwars replied to Starwars's topic in Way Off-Topic
I would hope one would use a stronger term than "bashing" when people start calling up your parents but maybe I am just sensitive? And yes, racial abuse for example is called racism. There is quite the specific reason for that, and it has to do with history. So with females being targetted in the manner of this story, you also have to apply that there is quite a lot of history of women being "second-class citizens". So I know I don't have much trouble with those "silly girls" getting their panties in a bunch over a bunch of internet comments about them being raped, and then the harassment also spilling over in "real life". Yes, silly girls. They should develop tougher skin. Clearly. If one could separate the internet from everything that's happened in the world, then sure. But in a world where girls who walk the streets at night risk getting raped (stupid girls right? walking the streets at night, it's their own fault!), perhaps words echoing those action carry a lot of weight. Even on the internetz! And how very convinient it is to pull the good ol' "it's the internet, lolz" thing. Not at all indicative of a problem. -

It's not "bashing" Malcador. Did you read the article? Do you really find nothing in there that targets the fact that she's a female specifically? I wonder how far stuff like this has to go and how many instances it needs to happen before people realize that, yes, maybe people do act rather differently against females on the internet. -
http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-things-i-learned-as-internets-most-hated-person/ I managed to completely miss this when it was going on, but, yet again... Well done internet guys. Yet again you show the world why *feminism* (oooh, scary word) is sorely needed. But hey, I guess it's just the internetz right? Ugh, goddamn...

Pillars of Eternity 2?
Starwars replied to DarkWanderer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think they're planning on making a PoE2 in the same engine if this first game end up a success. Don't think we know much beyond that. First, there will be an expansion also. -
It's put in between Hengsha and Singapore, which is where it belongs of course story-wise. It's more the momentum of the story that kinda feels weird when you get this pretty big new chapter to the story just as you're sorta getting ready for the end-game. Just finished Gunpoint, a small but excellent little puzzle/platform game. Superfun.
-
I don't enjoy it much personally but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it as an option. Might even use it on replays.
-
Finished up Deux Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut (phew). Still really enjoy the game overall as I had done in the past. Definitely one of the best "big productions" in semi-recent years if you ask me. Also the first time I played The Missing Link, which was pretty cool, though I'm not sure I like how it was put into the story so the player is forced to play it. It kinda interrupts the storyflow in a pretty serious way. Still, it was totally kewl.
