  1. Very doubtful. He's a book author, he doesn't do game writing. And none of his ideas from Icarus Effect are in Deus Ex. He created several original characters, at least 3, reused a Deus Ex 1 character, and they're not even mentioned in passing in the game.
  2. No. The game was written by Mary DeMarle.
  3. From what I recall, the book actually makes the three mooks much less two-dimensional and fleshes out that mercenary group. I read it less than a month ago. Barret and Fedorava are expanded upon not at all. Namir is given the silly characterization of missing a dead sister. As if it's relevant at all.
  4. Quoted for Truth and Wisdom re: the Space Marine demo. I'll cut both of you!
  5. Why did nobody tell me a Hard Reset demo was available? Edit: And I did not enjoy the demo.
  6. Hard Reset so far looks like it's following in the Serious Sam/Painkiller footsteps. I can't get excited about it. Also known as Poe's Law.
  7. *puts on bib*
  8. The game can be schizophrenic with the "no cover" thing. Yeah, there's definitely no formal cover system. But there's a few points in the game where you're encouraged to hide behind something. This may be a loadout problem, though. Power hammer limits you to bolter and pistol, so you won't have access to any of the powerful long range weapons. You can tear people up at close range, but they can pin you down at long. And those Orks with rocket launchers.... This made me take a hide, regen shield, pop out and take potshots strategy at times. If I'd used the Lascannon or Stalker Bolter, I might have had a better time with those encounters.
  9. His annunciation is very unnatural. I mean, he's pronouncing the words themselves fine, but it's very... is rigid the right word? Monotone? Maybe that's it.
  10. Finished fighting FOR THE EMPERAH! Now maybe I'll do it some more, but online.
  11. That's not a flying car.
  12. No ****. There's only so much Halo you can take before realising there's better stuff out there. I wonder if Microsoft will ever realise this before rendering the Halo franchise completely irrelevant. It took me a minute to figure out why I remembered that name. Metal Gear Solid 4.
  13. FOR THE EMPERAH!
  14. My foot is doing better. The wound is sore, but it definitely is healing. What's he talking about? What wound? I'm glad you asked. About Thursday of last week, I sat in my chair at my computer. Noticed a wheel was on the headset cord so, without really getting up, I lifted the chair and moved it off. Setting a wheel straight on my foot with my full weight. No serious damage, no broken bones. Just some really torn up skin in an area the size of the wheel on a office chair. Makes walking in shoes uncomfortable, because the shoe rubs against it causing minor pain. Again, nothing serious, but it looks gnarly. I guess the top skin only died yesterday. It's been red for the past week, turned yellow yesterday, and scabbed today. This is important info that everyone must be aware of.
  15. They revealed it early.
  16. Dang. I need to try that out, but can't make time for it. Pun not intended.
  17. What's the difference between a Bad Company game and a "real" BF game anyways? They all look the same to me. Bad Company were developed with consoles as the primary platform and given a single player campaign.
  18. Don't need heavy. Stun gun or 10mm + 1 emp grenade.
  19. I think part of it is that they decided to give XP awards to make up for the fact that stealth players may not go around killing everyone on the map and may actually avoid most enemies. The fact that going stealth AND taking down everyone on the map is yet better, is simply acceptable consequence. This does not explain the lethal/non-lethal disparity, however.
  20. I actually really really enjoyed the Space Marine demo. I'm going to have to seriously consider getting this.
  21. It's roughly between pitiful and barely-adequate. I guess if you're going for that type of stealth, there's more use for it. I think I used the tranq rifle in a single room in the entire game and that was my extent of sniping. Fair enough, though, if you're not looking to sneak by tiptoeing past everyone at wedgie distance. I made it through using takedowns more than anything else. So I undervalue sniping.
  22. The game feels like it penalizes you for going lethal, so there's not a whole lot of reason to do it if you're playing stealth. I still managed a few times, when I didn't want to wait for my stun gun to reload.
  23. And stun gun can solve most single takedown situations. However, the takedown is more reliable and yields more experience. There are even a few encounters in the game with something like three enemies in close proximity. So the takedown + tranq/stun extends to them with double takedown.
  24. I have a theory on that. I suspect that part of the subjectivity is a labeling issue. The physiological response between two people can be identical, but they may label it differently. One would call it tension, the other could call it fear. I'd be very interested in seeing research on this subject. Now, there is still room for subjectivity, nontheless. Some people may not get either tense or afraid. Or have managed behaviors that overcome it, such as comfortable savescumming.
