  1. Legend of Grimrock Did not think I'd enjoy it half as much as I am. The pacing is definitely not bad. It's good to have the tension about whether a battle is coming up. And the puzzles are well thought out.
  2. When my dad started shaving his head, he said it was to look like Bruce Willis. That's probably the reason Bruce Willis shaves his, too. Edit: Other news. http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/abrash/ Valve is also investigating wearable computing.
  3. USB Dog Tag. That is the most beautiful feelie I have seen in years.
  4. He also mentioned Aliens in passing. Apparently it had dialogue system that "was designed never to take you out of the world." Which is exactly what I've been asking from the industry for a while. There's an exchange in there that reveals Chris has an idea for a Planescape campaign. When pressed he doesn't want to spoil it.
  5. I'm on the verge of caving too. I don't much care for hack and slash, but if the pacing isn't Diablo and the puzzles are intelligent, I might have fun.
  6. I'm not familiar with East of Eden. From the context here, it seems to be contrasted against personal stories. Torment's story was about the Nameless One, so it wouldn't be an epic. Dragon Age Origins was about a time of change for Ferelden. If I were to marry the concepts of Epic Poetry and epic as used in this thread, I'd simply ask the question "when it's over, do the common people tell their children about it?"
  7. Epic poetry is a genre. http://en.wikipedia....iki/Epic_poetry Applying it beyond just poetry seems to work. Film has it, apparently. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_Film Why not narratives in general, including that of games?
  8. http://www.gamasutra...ortem_Waves.php I love postmortems, so I'm posting it. Waves is an indie game that sold 15k. A full 96% of his sales were from Steam. I wonder if that's a good conversion rate from the demo.
  9. http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/s81zu/rpg_fireside_chat_with_brian_fargo_and_chris/ That's the link for it.
  10. I'd definitely chip in for that, as well. I'd rather see Rogue Trader. It seems more open. But that's one of the things that could never get a Kickstarter. Unless GW crashes sometime in the foreseeable future.
  11. Longest Journey/Dreamfall I don't generally care about franchises, but that's the one plot cliffhanger I am interested in seeing resolved.
  12. Heh, and if you check my comment in the Books thread.. Apple are currently facing lawsuit by the DoJ for allegedly price-fixing ebooks.. European trade commission was already investigating them for that. heh US is kind of slow. I wonder what this means for the agency model. Or if it's just how they used the agency model.
  13. Good timing here in that Legend of Dragoon is hitting PSN on May 1. I don't want to wait, so I may pop my discs in and play it for old times sake.
  14. Glad to hear South Park is still on track. It's strange that he was asked Obsidian specific questions when he's THQ, otherwise.
  15. They're JRPGs. Valkyria Chronicles is nothing like them, though. Dawn of War 2 has more RPG elements in multiplayer. The only customization VC has is what gun you equip them with and what upgrades you've researched.
  16. I have no idea how people can call Valkyria Chronicles a JRPG. It's just a turn based strategy game.
  17. Ooh, and Dark Souls just had a PC edition announced. That's an RPG from Japan, but it doesn't meet too many JRPG tropes.
  18. JRPG classics? Final Fantasy V, VI, VII, IX. Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross. Legend of Dragoon. Xenogears (very flawed game, so can't recommend it as a starter). Final Fantasy Tactics. I hear good things about Earthbound/Mother, but never played it. More recent, Lost Odyssey was pretty darn good. Xenosaga was in the PS2 era. On the PC, The Last Remnant isn't a brilliant game, but it's enjoyable.
  19. I didn't mind DA2's armor. I hate the loot system everyone else seems to gush over. How Mass Effect 2 handled it is perfect for me. Just with Mass Effect 3's quantity of options. And companions being responsible for their own gear just kind of makes sense.
  20. I kid because I care, Morgoth.
  21. Morgoth liking things? I need a screenshot.
  22. I liked the story of Crysis 2. But I pretty much enjoy any tale that promotes transhumanism. Too much Luddism in fiction.
  23. When he said "including your previous games," I was surprised nobody yelled "so you're killing Leliana?"
