  1. Stages aren't so discrete. I have some bargaining left in me yet.
  2. My favorite thing about a game getting a negative reception is the post-mortem. I learn so much. Going in with lots of information, having a clear expectation, and weighing the result can tell you a lot about your assumptions. Main thing I learned is that endings are worth far more than I give them credit for. And I'm reading around trying to figure out why that is. Has this been linked yet? Musings of a Screenwriter. We probably have a few aspiring or accomplished writers here. I know we have an editor somewhere. Any disagreements or reinforcement?
  3. It's sad to see them missing the point as well. Nobody wants that. I mean... a Segway? We deserve a jetpack.
  4. Said it over at Bioware Social. JMS is probably the only writer I know of who wasn't making it up as he went. Then you factor in that Bioware has a team of writers, not just one guy making 95% of the decisions, and it's probably harder than for others. Benefit of the doubt is that it is technical. The first unskippable in ME1 and ME3 are centered around the same situation, people watching a monitor. There may be some issue with things going on on-screen that can't be skipped and will end up running concurrent if you try. An example I saw last night. The Crucible cinematic, where it is first revealed in construction. I skipped over that. Then the music continued over everything that followed.

  7. I don't know whether to be happy or scared. Gaider's patches to Baldur's Gate 2 were good. But will he be able to put his nostalgia glasses on? Or maybe Gaider's not himself involved and he's just drawing attention to it.

  12. It doesn't sound like they rushed the ending, as I initially assumed. But given all the iterations they went through, it seems like they just never could settle on how to end it. Like in one, Garrus and Liara die outright. Another says "sense of hope," which I don't think is anything like where we ended up.
  13. I less say that's amusing and more that it's depressing. They want desperately to believe there is something there other than what was received.
  14. I don't wish to make potentially unfair claims about Mr. Hudson. But that doesn't mean I'm not thinking them. There is a decent discussion to be had about where the lines are separating detachment, where one does not really understanding the situation, dishonesty, where one is afraid to face the truth, let alone admit it to others, and sheer bloody salesmanship, where one knows what's going on, but twists it around and smiles at you the entire time. One of those is the reason I can not to go the mall.

  16. Everytime I hear about projects getting cancelled, I get Ritual and Ensemble flashbacks. And if this was Sawyer's project, that's a great loss for us all. Is Obsidian running just the South Park and one other team now? And we don't know what the other team is? Or do they still have three projects in the pipe?

  20. Not as much as they like the turret sequence. Which has a reload mechanic, too... I played a bit more of my no-reload run yesterday. Discovered my favorite line in the entire franchise.
  21. Explains why Zaeed died in my first playthrough. It was with my character which I basically said...screw you Zaeed, I'm helping the workers! You can help the workers fine, you just need to do a charm check at the end.
  22. I think you just misclicked. Her bonus power is domination. Like AI Hacking, but for people. Which was pretty awesome.
  23. Lots of them are back at denial. Remember that Kubler-Ross doesn't have to follow the order it's listed in. The current popular theory is that Bioware implemented a fake ending. Y'know, to simulate the player being indoctrinated. And they'll release the real ending as a surprise. Because that's sane.
  24. Yeah, that's an autosave. I crashed in the final sequence, booted it back up, hit "resume" and was back at that spot.
  25. Considering they ended with I'm not expecting them to stick to any one theme anytime soon.
