In the beta, some skeleton enemies were downright immune to piercing attacks. I’m expecting you’ll find more of these enemies throughout the game. (Like blights) And damage type is still extremely relevant. Using the right damage type can net you even more extra damage with the new penetration system.

anathanielh replied to master guardian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Either way, Mindstalker is the multiclass to take if you wanna stack sneak attack damage. i think you would be better of dueling with a wizard because of the wizards self buffs. The cipher has hardly any self buffs that are good apart from time parasite and a multi cant get that (level until level eight ) If you want to play a stealthy, backstabbing assassin your going to be very close to the action. The wizard has the abilities to really keep the rogue alive and with the latest patch all wizard buffs and weapons summons are nearly instant cast (0.4 seconds) I think a cipher will be to flimsy Oh missed this when I made my above post. I'm not gonna be focusing on backstabbing. I'm gonna be a ranged dps with rods and scepters, and a club to reduce their will if they get in close so I can dominate them with cipher spells. That's the plan, anyway. When they don’t respect the watcher, they get the club. Best strat. 10/10. 5 stars. 9/10. A+

Classes and Attributes
Take in mind that Intelligence also increases the duration of skills effects. For a ranger, although not as high priority, int can make his/her DoTs last longer. For barbarian, frenzy and barbaric shout will last longer and carnage still gets the increased aoe. I would say you don’t need quite as many points in Intelligence, but it would still be useful for you. In the first game, resolve helped to increase the willpower stat which was mental defense. (I think that’s why it was hard to remember) Resolve in this game increases deflection, reduces the duration of hostile effects, and also increases will. Many theorycrafters and min/maxers like to dump this stat because they’d prefer to kill things faster and make up for lower defenses through 50 drugs and items before fights, but imo if you aren’t doing solo potd mega min/max builds, it’s a good stat for front-liners and tanks that you may want to invest in. (Also if you’re an rp guy like me, you don’t want to be the weak-willed guy who somehow takes on ogres) As for builds you should consider, I can’t say anything. I don’t have the beta. I say just experiment with classes you think will mesh well when you have your hands on the game. You’ll find what you like soon enough. Hope this helps.

E.g swashbuckler (rogue/fighter) provides the fighter class with some early mobility that typically isn’t available until PL5 for single class fighters

I watched coohhcarnages one and he looked at the trickster subclass only. It has 10% sneak attack damage becasue of its subclass I don't know which one exactly, but other people have been given early access codes to the game IIRC. People have probably seen it in their streams.

Try the game before you give up on your character, at the very least. I haven't given up on it, I'm thinking through adjustments. This is a big change with a number of implications. For instance, I was planning to use a fast, accurate weapon, but now it looks like backstabbing is king and good backstabbing wants high base damage. Without the additional accuracy from the weapon I have to think about raising perception, etc. Have you considered using a ranged weapon (The backstab passive also works with them if you’re close enough) with high base damage and switching wep sets once the fight starts. Or perhaps you can just ignore that passive like me and deal the majority of your damage another way. I plan to make a rogue/ranger (scout) and use the many damage DoTs to cause a lot of raw damage. That’s one extra perk I can use toward a less risky perk imo. Weapon switching is out because I'm dead set on multi-classing with Devoted. My original plan was, a bit like you, to ignore backstabbing, and get my dps from frequent crits, sneak attacks, and DoTs like deep wounds. Like I said earlier though the nerf to disciplined strikes and now sneak attack puts a massive dent in that approach. I think at the very least I need to invest in backstab and shadowing beyond, and also seriously think about taking the Assassin subclass. Ah, okay then. Wish you luck in your endeavors then. Hope you find that perfect class/subclass for you.

Have they fixed casters yet?
Casters have always been viable, just nerfed compared to the first game (For good reason imo). Unless you plan to get through the game with very little aoe CC or aoe buffs, then you’re going to need a caster. You can use items and scrolls too for a short time, but those run out. Caster buddies are always there for ya, through good times and bad times. Wizards and priests also get access to some really great spells down in their tree. And the spells effects look great in the upgraded engine.

Hello! i have a few questions about ranger
No problem. Just make sure you take the first few hours in the game to test out a few builds and/or check the skills of classes once it’s out. See if you like single class or multiclass better. It’s about what you like, not what’s the best. Once you find that sweet spot the game will be more enjoyable
