I’ve already been doing so, but I’ve said what I did for the sake of hyperbole and good fun. Also might get people talking about other things for a bit, which is all fine and dandy. I know that this thread will carry on no matter what I do, so I may as well try to have fun with it no matter how much I’d prefer it’s nonexistence.

This thread was a deliberate Psyop by the members of this forum to drive you insane. But it all seriousness people are just shooting the breeze talking about an advertised mechanic (One the writers is expressing pride about it on Social Media) until the game comes out. It's not anymore complex than that. That's all well and good, but whenever I go to the forum for Deadfire Discussion and I see this thread still persisting it feels like I've stumbled into Tumblr.

Day 362: The mods still do nothing to shut down this cesspool of a thread. I’ve been trapped here for too long and I’m ready to end it. To everybody who comes here after me, I sincerely hope you come to understand why this thread has devolved so. Good luck and godspeed. -A Weary Traveler *Gunshot and the thud of a former adventurer hitting the ground*

Where do you get this information? Pets serve different roles so I don’t think there is a “best” one. For example, bears are great tanks because of high armor, but wolves are great for extreme dps. Also pure ranger is fine. If you’re single class you get access to the entire skill tree, but multiclass allows for more variety, which I think is cool for rangers as they didn’t have too much variety in the 1st game.

I’m still gonna stick with my multiclass melee ranger. Either scout (rogue trickster/ranger stalker) or hunter (standard fighter/ranger stalker). Leaning more toward rogue for the extra debuff and survivability illusion spells, but fighter seems fun too with the mule kick, charges, and such. I just like the idea of dashing through the battlefield with my pet friend. Also gonna dual wield sword/pistol for some fun rp.

Recommended stats are shown at char creation. Any class can use any weapon. Honestly, you shouldn’t try to find an “optimum build” before you play the game. Things have changed from the beta and in my opinion that’s a surefire way to suck the fun out of any game before it’s even out. Most if not all characters are viable and can get you through the game (even on potd). Just have fun.

I’m actually planning to play a melee scout so I can keep up with my pet and rush into battle with ‘im. I just like the idea of dashing around the battlefield. (I’ll also have trickster subclass for extra survivability and debuffs)

Weapons also have noise (guns are obviously very loud and bows quiet as you’ve said). Noise determines whether enemies a certain distance away from the attack will be attracted to it. An example of this is in the Backer update #46 where the team used sparkcrackers to lure enemies toward explosive barrels and subsequently blow them up. I don’t have access to the beta but I believe most melee weapons have around the same noise under normal circumstances. (Skills/spells could have a noise that makes attacks louder, though)

Scout (Rogue-Trickster/Ranger-Stalker); I had a melee ranger in the first game and love the idea of rushing into combat with my animal buddy. Now I get to do the same here but with the added rogue and trickster abilities to make escape or engagement more fluid and interesting. Edit: After watching the char creation of the livestream, I may also do monk/ranger or fighter/ranger. SO MANY CHOICES

I see even you are capable of making that most classic mistake. You are applying logic, in an forum thread on the internet, on a niche website dedicated to a rules/mechanics heavy RPG. That blunder is only slightly less famous than engaging in a land war in Asia. Seriously though people, there is 0 reason to believe Deadfire will not be more successful and well received than Eternity 1. Reviewers who got early review copies, and have tweeted their thoughts, have all basically universally liked the game. I recall one where the guy said it was "a game of the year contender". Additionally the Backer Beta at this point is worth less than monopoly money. We know it is versions behind, we know they have adjusted the gameplay since that version likely multiple times. Hell, we know it was not the most recent version of the game on the day they released it as the latest backer beta even. So we should probably stop holding it up as an example of how the game will play in all regards. It didn't hold water in Eternity 1, it won't in Deadfire. But to avoid falling into the logic pit trap myself..... God Deadfire is gonna suck! If only the MC was Commander Shepard (from ME2 obviously), the game had 50% VO only, and Rammstein had made the main theme song. Then this game would like rock for real! Wait... you can't play as Shepard?!? Now I'm worried. Wait... WHAT!? How can you have Mass Effect: Deadfire without Shepard!?? They're prolly going to replace Garrus and Tali too.

Portraits II
anathanielh replied to Amentep's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If anybody has a portrait of a random skinny, black dude (With watercolor if possible) that I can use, that'd be great. I like playing as myself in rpgs but have no artistic talent whatsoever.
