Endgame bug
cheesevillain replied to cheesevillain's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
You don't have to pledge to a god. It's optional. All you need to do is earn a god's favor by finishing a quest given to you by a god. Two separate things. I know! I'm only posting this because Josh posted this recently on Tumblr. "Hello. You mentioned, that four controversial oaths for gods will get some consequences in the Deadfire. But what about situation where the Watcher made no promises but still got help from gods? Would this be recognized?" "Gaining entry to Sun in Shadow requires a pledge to a god. They won’t give you the souls you need to survive the descent unless you pledge to them. A player may try to cleverly word their promise as a not-promise, but the gods will still hold them accountable." But finishing a god-related quest & going to sun in shadow does not require any promise or cleverly worded not-promise. -
I know, but I didn't really expect them to achieve it.

These are the same requirements as the original game. Are you sure you haven't mixed them up?

Well, the contrast between all the loving attention given to sculpting the feminine body of the Devil of Caroc, and the fact that her soul was poured into the body without a second thought like yesterday's dirty dishwater, is the thing that really made Galvino's character pop for me. As for the Boob-plate, it's not silly from a historical perspective, and there's nothing wrong with games having an erotic bent. That tone worked in Mass Effect and especially The Witcher games, which I really enjoyed. I just appreciated that PoE contrasted these games with a slightly more serious tone.

Endgame bug
cheesevillain posted a question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
I noticed what seems like a bug. It's possible to survive the drop to Sun in Shadow without pledging to a god, explicitly or implicitly. Josh Sawyer just posted that you can only complete the game if you pledge to a god. I'm worried that this might affect endgame states that might be passed over to deadfire. -
You can pledge to multiple gods (5 in total). You can betray (by picking Wael's choice) them all, and lay 5 divine curses on the Dyrwood. Sadly, you can't betray Wael, since he asks for no pledge. You cannot (at least, not without a bug or console command) go to sun-in-shadow without pledging to a god (and receiving the boon). If you try, the game ends, and shows you an ending slide describing what happens to you (splatter). Josh's comments are accurate. One source of confusion is that you can only enjoy one boon at a time, regardless of how many gods you pledge to. By pledging to a new god, you receive a new boon which erases the previous boon. Edit: I've done a little play testing, and there's clearly some bugs that have yet to be fixed. It's possible for the "X's Boon" talent to disappear after pledging to multiple gods, and without this you can still survive the pit, but none of the gods remember if you betrayed them. Also, I can't seem to get Skaen's betrayal ending slides to occur, no matter what I do.

AOE auras are only tactically interesting in the first place if they have disadvantages which make them better and worse in different situations. Splitting up your party should be a viable tactical option, but it shouldn't be a no brainer tactical option which the mechanics of the game accommodate so that it is the best one.

You're right! Hopefully they'll have a couple of arcane themed staves in deadlier that look good on a wizard.

First: I'd find it weird if you had a staff big enough for close combat, but was still using ranged elemental attacks. Second: A mighty wizard staff is a strong visual signal of High Fantasy works, like World of Warcraft & DnD, where mighty heroes travel the planes, easily punch Cthulhu in the face, etc.. Pillars of Eternity has some elements that are High Fantasy, but also elements of low fantasy like Game of Thrones. There may have been a conscious decision to tone down some of the flashier high fantasy elements.

Ahh i see. OP mentioned shanties (sailors songs) and ability of collecting them so I assumed inspiration for that request came from Black Flag half pirate, half asscreed game. Top down map/boat traveling with singing is also very reminiscent of Pirates!. Therefore my logic - singing on ship = piratey. And every occasion is good to call for Pirates2 in case, like Beattlejuice, it will appear if you mention it enough times. But continuing conversation, in unlikely case shanties would be a thing it would be silly to put in the game existing songs like they did in Black Flag. A custom written songs of eora would be needed and as fun as it might be for Josh to figure out how sailors song’s lyrics might be in Deadfire and for Justine to figure out how their songs would sounds it probably would be a big waste of time and waste of budget. As mentioned before the travern song for WM is a thing and it was lovely, but I doubt they would create too many of those. Some games, though, wrote original songs (with lyrics, singers and all) for bards in tavers even though the time a player wound spend there should have been short. Dragon Age Inquisition and DOS 2 did it and, if I remeber well, Skyrim did so too. So, maybe, if the people in Obsidian are interested enough, we might see (or rather hear) shanties! DA:I and Skyrim were made on colossal budgets. Let's not compare them with deadfire for what's feasible!
