StarCraft 2
No, no, no. In the grim future of the 41st millenium there is only war. In StarCraft there is war, beer and country & western music. Obviously the latter makes the StarCraft universe a much worse place to inhabit.

My favourite weapon is the grenade launcher but it's so hard to find a team that won't run headlong into the swarm or strafe in front of me :\

What are you playing now
Try playing the game with one hand tied behind your back or blindfolded or handcuffed in a box submerged in a glass tank filled with tropical water and piranhas.

Watching vids like this I can see how StarCraft became so popular as a competetive game

StarCraft 2
Monte did you ever play a game called Blitzkrieg 2? Sounds like you might enjoy it, it had three good single player campaigns. It's similar to DoW and CoH in some ways, but in others it's more like a WW2 era Total War game (battlefield-segment only). Between missions you can level up certain types of units depend on how well they'd done in the previous mission to grant them added bonuses, so if your light tanks killed most of the enemy for example then they'd get the lion's share of xp. You also got to chose your missions to a certain degree, it worked a bit like a hub system on the region map where you had a few core missions you had to do, but could pick the order, and in addition there were side missions that you could do to unlock units and the like. Anyway there's a demo on gamers hell; http://www.gamershell.com/download_10561.shtml And an incredably underwhelming trailer on youtube.com; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WutVXfyD_NQ

StarCraft 2
Not the premature argument ag- oh. Er, no some people had been playing the game since before I created this thread. I'm not fond of games like Warcraft, Starcraft or C&C as multiplayer games either. Dawn of War on the other hand is one of my favourite online games of all time, which is odd as it's pretty similar to the other three. Perhaps I do like it because it was easier *shrug*.

StarCraft 2
Let's hear it then, how earth shatteringly good is it? Do the in-game graphics all look like top-end HD cutscenes? Did they decide to keep the old Jim Raynor voice actor? Ect, ect, ect?

American-English relations..
They both have official hats. The Pope has the largest hat so he's in charge. The Queen has a smaller hat but the President has no hat.

What you did today
I can't remember my dreams anymore, I feel a bit cheated sometimes. I saw Law Abiding Citizen earlier today and have to say that it wasn't anywhere near as bad as people led me to believe, I had a good couple of hours watching it and then wondered how much better it would have been if were more than just a spoof trailer.

I don't think Portal is free anymore. Valve were giving it away for one day (or a weekend I don't remember) for it's anniversary but now it's listed as costing

I can't help but wonder how long it will be before someone recreates the movie Aliens with the SDK. Dominic White over at the RPS boards;- Ask Monte
It seems like a minefield these days, I was reading an article/rant by a games journalist called Leigh Alexander about catcalling a few weeks ago that partly described how much of an inconvinience harmless flirting (seperate issue from catcalling) could be for her because it happens so often. She didn't come across as full of herself despite how that sounds, I don't have time to dig up the article for proper context atm though, will later. I was left exasperated after reading it though, but I'll have to finish the post later as well. To be continued.- Pictures of your games
I've started playing the dark and well executed RavenLoft module for Neverwinter Nights 2; Misery Stone . I'm not too far in yet but the quality of the story and module design is obvious within 10 minuets or so. I was impressed that it really does feel like a horror story. All of the areas are beautiful in a twisted kind of way. The cut-scenes are just phenomenal, I mean the into proper is arguably better than anything in the official games. The module design hasn't skimped out on roleplay, lots of skills which usually get overlooked will passively present themselves everywhere in this module. They had some good ideas with the journal and how it presents quest information and overall progress. They've even got a world map, which again is handled so well. Well written characters and NPCs ect. The only thing I don't like so far is that if the player character is incapacitated then it's game over. If you still have NWN2 installed you should try this, it's amazing.- RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!, just a dumping ground
I don't know. I haven't seen anything of the game and know nearly nothing about the mechanics. It's more about curiosity than about wishing it was still alive (mainly also because I'm not a super Aliens fan). I believe that the Aliens setting would have made an excellent platform for an RPG. It's always about a small group, brought together by an intensely stressful survival situation, usually with a fair amount of in-fighting and group politics. That meant that a lot of the core things about the situation were already common knowledge to the audience and made sense, so not much explanation or lore about the alien outbreak is needed, probably not a lot of info is needed about the universe at large either if the game was restricted to a single colony. Obsidian could have spent a lot more time working on the characters and told a plot that was more of a personal horror story with tensions between the group rather than the usual RPG clich - Alien Swarm
