  1. The thing about Baldur's Gate 1 is that it's an rpg from before the time when Bioware started doing companions. Some of the party members will have personal quests like Minsc rescuing Dynaheir but that's really about the extent of your interacting with them or their impact on the story after they get recruited. They won't chip in with comments when you talk to people, they won't talk to each other except for pairs who may rarely say two lines to each other about this or that. They won't get an epilogue at the end either. So think of them less as personalities and more like expendable puppets. I'd almost suggest letting them perma death and recruiting new ones as you go, you'd get more quests and you'd get to hear more character quips, some of the least recruited characters are really entertaining and a few have something unique about them like Xan and his moonblade. If you decide to do that though remember that if you dismiss a party member they will still be the same character level when you recruit them again, and if you dismiss a dead party member then they're gone forever. You should still be able to finish the game no matter of what combo of characters you use though, but having at least one mage, cleric, rogue and fighter will make things much easier. Also if you host a multiplayer game and play by yourself you can make all 6 characters, you wouldn't even have to restart, just load the session you're on at the moment.
  2. at first I was like "wha?!" but then I saw it was still a platformer and I went like "eew" Flashback was one of the best platformers ever. The dialog was cringeworthy but if they recreate the game part faithfully then it's going to be worth picking up.
  3. I'm not sure they could have actually, I thought that was one of the stipulations of using Steam as a distributer. There's tons of games that that use a different system inside of steam for DLC etc. For example Bioshock 2 uses GFWL for DLC, all the Trackmania games use its own crappy frontend for all addon stuff. That's true but even then I'd argue that since you still need to use Steam to run the game to play the DLC that isn't tied to your steam account it's more practical and convenient to use Steam to distribute the DLC as well. I get why people are upset but if they are going with it as a mandatory requirement for patches then they may as well go all in rather that use an extra layer of annoyance like LIVE or Bioware Social.

  5. Yeah, I'm getting the itch to play an old-school-ish RPG, but I'm not feeling particularly inspired by any of the options in front of me. (Or, at least, I am sufficiently deterred by the prospect of getting them running, patched, and sufficiently modded.) When is Wasteland 2 supposed to be hitting the streets? (I didn't back it, so I'm not getting the updates, but the cash I threw at Eternity was apparently enough to merit a free copy.) I think the estimate from InXile was October this year.
  6. Very pretty in a bleak post-apocalyptic kind of way.
  7. Honest Hearts was really fun, I wish they had done more with Joshua Graham though as he was really fun to talk to but it seemed like he was barely used despite being the focal point of the dlc.
  8. I believe that including PayPal they've hit 4mil now. 7 hours left to go.
  9. Oh man, this guy is awesome
  10. No. they would have to get Disney's permission. Which is not going to happen. The game is 8 years old. Let. It. Go. And besides, the game is already patched by fans. It's called TSLRCM. What are you talking about? Are you actually trying to say that THQ and LucasArts are no more because of Obsidian? Yeah, Obsidian has worked with Bethesda, inXile and Disney among others so we just have to wait and see them die. Maybe not tomorrow or even in a year but I guarantee they are dead in 20 years or so. All because of Obsidian, right? Geez... Oh no, I just realized something. We are on Obsidian's forums. Obsidian's curse must be on us already! Ok, I may have gone overboard with this post but seriously, come on. What a humorless person They say that loss of humour is the first sign of the Obsidain Curse.
  11. Team Fortress 2 as seen through Occulus Rift Do you guys consider circle straffing someone using an OR to the point where they get dizzy and fall over to be an exploit or a valid tactic?

  13. It's a real shame that one didn't get finished. The evil scientist and the computer controlled 'other player party' sounded like great ideas.
  14. . On the one hand, one of the main characters will be Brock Sampson which is an automatic win. On the other hand, one of the main characters will be Evil Dead's Ash Williams who will not be voiced by Bruce Campbell. I don't know how to feel, the conflicting emotions are too strong. Oh, and does this mean that a Venture Bros. adventure game might be a possiblity at some point?
  15. Thank you! I saw the whole movie on youtube and I loved it. Aside from the humour being much better than the clip let on, the characters and story were strong too. I'd never have known that the movie existed if not for your post so once again thank you for enriching my cultural experience.
  16. All the same, the waterfall area is already impressive as a still so it's going to be great seeing it in motion.
  17. Then you have clearly never watched Black Sheep.
  18. Lets plays actually seem quite popular on youtube, I guess people are interested in seeing how other people play and how the experience differs to their own?

  20. Well I mean, I agree multiplayer shouldn't suffer for the single player because that's always been the series' strength but the campaign in Bad Company 2 was a lot of fun and BF3's campaign while being rather bland on story and gameplay was just incredable to watch and I felt worth the effort just for the spectacle. Both of those games had great multiplayer too, I mean people rag on the season pass for BF3 but it was fantastic value for money, you ended up with more maps, modes, vehicles and guns than you would have with an old fashioned expansion pack and all were great fun to play. I'm super excited for this it looks terrific.
  21. The SSRMs are for anything that get close, the lasers are the long range weapons in that build.
  22. Are you sure? All I get is a page saying that they are considering ways to allow pre-orders. Probably an issue they fixed since you posted but there are links to pre-order the normal and deluxe versions now.
