  1. It's a roguelike so luck is intended to be a big factor and the game is weighted towards being difficult/neigh impossible. The idea is to create replayability, tension, a greater sense of accomplishment when you win and a much bigger sense of reward when something good happens. In this case that involves what ways you can equip your ship. If you're always getting murderized by the scouts then you need a rough idea of what changes you need to make to your ship to survive them and also beat the last boss and then spend every playthrough working towards that. I know that's obvious and probably sounds snarky but that is the core element of the genre of game you're playing and it's supposed to be that frustraiting. It's why I don't play FTL much . No no, I get it, I have experience with roguelikes. But consistently, over six playthroughs, I have gone through the game without trouble and getting fully upgraded. For example, on my last ship, I had good weapons, good drone systems, stealth, full shields, upgraded engines, enough crew to have expendables and more than enough resources. In the second to last area, I could pretty much kill any enemy I came across in one or two volleys. Then in the end game, the first enemy I encounter gets me or turns me into a limping wreck. I find it hard to believe that six times I have had luck throughout the entire game and bad luck in the end. Just seems like the difficulty curve is terribly balanced. It makes trying again seem kinda pointless. Sorry for making assumptions. I did find this, it won't help against the scouts (although Deraldin's advice probably will do the trick) but it has a lot of very detailed information on the final boss, full of spoilers though.

  3. I've been tempted to pick that up, I loved the short story by Harlan Ellison.
  4. They even threw in a reference to the cruise ships that nobody liked
  5. I found that a S.H.I.V. is pretty ideal for that mission, I brought one along thinking I'd sacrifice it but it ended up outrunning the Cryssalids every single turn.
  6. You should really shell out for the expansion as well Grom, it makes it a much better game and all the extra maps mean that the random missions don't become so repetitive towards the end.
  7. Imagine how much money you'd blow just on food and toilet paper though? And good luck finding a place to live within your price range on that scale.
  8. The game does get a lot more difficult but now you have a few levels it should be rare for you to be one-shot by most enemies.
  9. Unfortunately yes, I'm absolutely sure.
  10. Scam. It wouldn't be steam-free-games.com if it were genuine and this is valve, when they give stuff away they make a front page announcement when you launch the program.
  11. Also, Tbe Sims 3 and all of it's expansions for... £462. While on sale.
  12. Apparently more things are on sale, those two are the ones that Origin did pop-ip afs for; http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/11/28/battlefield-4-mass-effect-3-and-simcity-among-origins-black-friday-deals/ Battlefield 4 - £27 SimCity - £22.50 FIFA 14 - £28 Battlefield 3 - £6 Battlefield 3 (+ Premium) - £14 The Sims 3 - £15 The Sims 3: Expansion #1-23,462 - £Various Crysis 3 - £6 Dead Space 3 - £6 (If you like co-op shooters like Resident Evil 5 or Left 4 Dead then you'll probably want this one too.) Mass Effect 3 - £4 Mass Effect Trilogy - £16 C&C: Ultimate Collection - £10 Dragon Age: Origins, Ultimate Edition - £10 Dragon Age 2 - £6
  13. Don't usually see one of these eh? I just thought some of you may be interested to know that Battlefield 4 is currently 40% off, meaning you can buy it now for £25 rather than £45 Battlefield Bad Company 2 is also on sale for £1, this is beyond a good deal, the multiplayer and single player are both great fun and well worth owning if you like FPS games.
  14. It's entertaining but you should know it was hugely over-rated and only took 2 hours to finish.
  15. I saw the first movie and really enjoyed it. I agree that Lawrence nailed the role and I think the rest of the cast did a terrific job as well, especially the guy playing Peter who made the character more likeable than he was in the books. I found with the books that the first one was by far the best story and the series gradually got more ridiculous as it went on, good character writing but I think it would have been better if they kept the scale small rather than what the author ended up doing with it. You'll see what I mean but hopefully it'll work better on the big screen than it does in print.
  16. If you want an easy time Raithe you should go dwarves, they're anti-agility players as almost every one of them nullifies dodge and likewise they have block and are 'tough' which give them an equal footing against the powerhouses that are the Khemri. I also think, but am not sure that the Slayers have an ability that has a chance to nullify any strength advantage the Tomb Guardians have each time the Slayers block. The only drawback will be the low speed of your players, if your formation gets broken up and Wals or Melkathi get the ball then you'll probably have to write it off as a touchdown but other than that they have a lot going for them.
  17. Why? It is being very uncooperative. If I don't turn the AI completly off, the party is acting extremly stupidly. If I do turn it off, they very often refuse to take orders at all. I don't remember having so much trouble with it when I played it back when. Have you tried tweaking the companion behaviours from the character menu? I found that turning 'defend master' to off makes a huge positive difference . Telling your companions to 'attack nearest' will basically turn off 'follow' and 'stand ground' stance and let them auto summon their familiars and animal companions (put the cursor over a portrait or a spot on ground and hold right mouse). The AI has definitely had a lot of work done since release, even Quara is only occasionally causing friendly fire damage with wall of flame, fireball has been totally fine so far. Auto disarm/retrieve traps and and pick locks seem to actually work now as well, although it does help if for sections like the crypt near fort Locke you equip characters like Khelgar with ranged weapons just to be sure that he won't set anything off, but I did see characters resist the urge to run ahead and came up with a message saying "I'm not doing anything until this trap is disarmed", which was awesome. Finally auto pick-up items is a huge time-saver and probably my favourite feature. You get all 4-5 of your characters doing that and you barely have to pause after combat.
  18. The CIA has three candidates, two men and a woman, for one assassin position. On the final day of testing, the CIA proctor leads the first male candidate to a large steel door and hands him a gun. "We must know that you will follow our instructions, regardless of the circumstances," he explains. "Inside this room, you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Take this gun and kill her." The man is horrified, "You can't be serious! I could never shoot my wife!" "Well," says the proctor, "you're definitely not the right man for this job then." The CIA proctor leads the second male candidate to another large steel door and hands him a gun. "We must know that you will follow instructions, no matter what the circumstances," the proctor explains. "Inside this room, you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Take this gun and kill her." The second man steadies himself, takes the gun and enters the room. After three quiet minutes, the man exits the room with tears in his eyes. "I wanted to do it -- I just couldn't pull the trigger and shoot my wife. I guess I'm not the right man for the job." Finally, the CIA proctor leads the female candidate to yet another large steel door and hands her a gun. "We must be sure that you will follow instructions, no matter what the circumstances. Inside this room, you will find your husband sitting in a chair. Take this gun and kill him." The woman takes the gun, enters the room, and before the door even closes completely behind her, she's fired off six shots. Then all hell breaks loose behind the door -- cursing, screaming, crashing. Suddenly, all goes quiet. The door opens slowly, the woman exits, and wiping the sweat from her brow, she says, "Did you guys know the gun was loaded with blanks? I had to beat the son of a bitch to death with the chair!"
  19. double post
  20. I really should look up THAC0 one of these days as well.
  21. Okay, see you later tonight.
  22. And I can appreciate that, I really liked NWN2 and it's engine though (Preferred it to the infinity engine actually although I did love those games) so I'm looking forward to playing it.
  23. Old news now but this is what I call an Enhanced Edition! It's been finished and patched up apparently so I'm sorely tempted to leave my BG:EE to collect dust and just play this instead.
  24. I loved TWD, I just hope they don't go so far past their estimates this time.
  25. PC: Magika - This one is unique, you will never have played anything quite like it before. It's pure, hilarious chaos from start to finish.
