I'm going with the Colts on this one.
  2. We played handball in high school Phys Ed. It was actually the only sport that was anywhere near fun to play. Uh, goooo Iceland!

  4. IIRC, the physics had less to do with Source than they had to do with Havok. I was wondering how, even rushed, Bloodlines' physics could be so pale in contrast to HL2, when they shared the same engine.
  5. Actually, one of the reasons it's taking so long is that they keep switching out the tech for new, better ****. DNF is probably now on an engine at least as polished as Doom 3's, which is to say, okay but not next-gen by any means. Who knows, they could trot out an engine that's actually impressive. I remember seeing the old screenies that showed a graphical sophistication not beyond the original Half-Life. They were shown around the time of the "FPS war" that came after the release of Quake 2, the one that Half-Life ended up winning. IIRC, DNF was supposed to compete with the original SiN (heh) Unreal and Half-Life during that time. Never happened. Its place in development hell aside, the fact that they've switched out engines so often obviously doesn't bode well for the game itself. It would seem to indicate that visual quality is high enough on their list of priorities that they would scrap the game and start over when a certain level of sophistication isn't attained, and that's never good. Is the game such a ****ty play that they require a "hey, that looks cool" to justify the game's development?
  6. That's all well and good, but it doesn't cover orphans, or anyone without a person who would have a legitimate right to decide anything for them. A disabled orphan might live in a group home where he / she wouldn't have a primary caregiver, and all he / she'd be to all involved would be a body in a bed. That's when public policy would dictate what should be done.
  7. I think he's just afraid to make a straight topic about the war in Iraq. All the interchangeable threads he's made have been thinly veiled questions about it. This one is about the insurgency, I guess.
  8. I think Jorian had it right. Unless you're talking about Toy Story, in which case, I don't know what you're on about.
  9. I cannot be arsed to take this seriously enough to make sense of it right now. The new insomina treatment is hitting me hard. But I'll softball this, and assume the question is whether or not self-defense is a legitimate rationale for violence. Yeah. Duh, of course it is. The only people I'm aware of who would say no are serious hardc0re Benthamites. **** those guys.
  10. The running title is Duke Nukem: Chinese Democracy.
  11. This would be exciting if it wasn't completely unexciting.

It was good for a season, when it was really wild how ****ed up the show was. But as it went into the second season, it became obvious that they weren't really interested in satire, and they just gave up completely, and the acid trip qualities of the show eclipsed just about everything else. The sole purpose of the show was to make every episode more belligerent and cacaphonous and "look at us, we're edgy" than the last. So it stopped being funny if you weren't on drugs.

    Cabaret Voltaire?
  16. The game is absolutely insane on the higher difficulty levels... Real test for FPS fanatics. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am also still playing the original SiN - it was a real shame this game came out at the same time as HL - it is well driven plot/action FPS. Emergence looks awesome. I just hope Ritual will be able to keep to its Episode instalment hope :? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> SiN is dead dead dead dead dead. At least for Ritual. They're off making "casual" games, which I can only assume means they'll become a Wii developing house. I love bearing bad news! *edit - I didn't realize that the N in SiN is capitalized. Fx3d!

I think what Meta artfully points out is that when one listens to jazz and classical, it is in fact not contradictory to say you don't listen to music. amirite?
  18. It should be pointed out that the hospital in which this is being done is considering making this kind of thing standard policy in regard to the treatment of severely disabled children. What happens when we get a case in which the decision to enact this "freezing" procedure becomes bureacratic, instead of familial? Will it be just as acceptable? What happens when we get an Ashley who's an orphan? I can completely understand why this was done. But making it a public policy is a mistake, and there are just way too many slippery slopes to go down here.
  19. I remember getting stuck somewhere in Sanitarium, and I remember the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad voice acting. But it had its moments. Still have the discs around somewhere.

My ipod bought the ticket last nite, and I recently purged my computer of all music that I had on my ipod. Needed the space. I was able to save about 1/3 of it all, but that's still about 15 gigs lost. So now I guess it's to the torrents to reclaim my library.

I'm not sure how many of these cliches are a symptom of writer's laziness and how many are symptoms of the TV format, that is, 20-40 minute episodes with frequent commercial breaks. The Unit, Walker, and CSI are all formula / procedural shows, that require a literary arc (beginning-middle-end) to every episode. They don't really have the luxury of making deep characters. Same thing with just about every sitcom ever made. The characters in Law & Order are barely even characters. That's also the reason why a lot of serial shows, Lost or Heroes or The Shield or The Sopranos or The Wire or Battlestar Galactica, get so much love. They don't have to operate within that paradigm. You have character and plot development over seasons instead of episodes, and the result is (usually) a stronger, more engaging, almost cinematic show. For those who are willing to take the time to follow. Thank DVDs, I guess. The Sopranos and its serialized progeny wouldn't exist if you couldn't buy season anthologies.

Rage Against the Machine will be reuniting for Coachella this year. I can't be bothered to go, but I expect some bootlegs. Wonder if they've still got it. Trentemoller - Nam Nam Ministry - NWO
  23. Hmm, link doesn't look to be an obvious redirect. I don't get this bot's angle.
  24. When it comes to grl games, I prefer Xtreme Hair Dresser.
  25. But that didn't have as much to do with the creation of the character as it had to do with the attention to detail and the singular vision of the gameworld. After so many years, the only differences I noticed between my characters was the ability of some to say more witty things than others. I cannot remember the names of any Fallout character I've made (whereas I can name many of my NWN2 or BG characters). When I play Fallout, it's not to replay the game with a new, unique character and experience it from a different angle. By now I've explored everything the game has to offer. I play it now just to revisit the rich setting, and the character couldn't matter less. I don't remember facing the Master in the context of "Vault Dweller vs. The Master", I remember it as "The Master". The consequences of the PC's choices were more interesting than the PC himself. All I'm really asking from Bethesda at this point is not to butcher the setting, and at this point I think it remains to be seen whether that's a sure thing. I'm not that interested in playing a Fallout game that's centered on Bioware-esque character development of the PC, and admittedly that's not something I think Bethesda can do well anyway. I'm way past expecting Van Buren from them. I think they can pull off making The Glow, a place that's light on character interaction but heavy as **** on atmosphere and danger. And I think that from a first person perspective, with the Gamebryo engine, that could very well be an awesome experience (and with my HDTV and 5.1 system, a 360 port of the game, it'll be better). But I'm skeptical of Bethesda's ability to create interesting NPCs and, more to the point, craft interesting interactions with them. At the very least I expect the game to look amazing, and create at least a few experiences that will be sensually satisfying. As far as the RPG elements go, I'm not expecting old Fallout quality, but I expect something better than Final Fantasy. I'm going to play it, and I'll probably enjoy it, regardless of how it isn't Fallout 1 or 2. *edit - and I'm way off topic. Regardless, the new interview shed some light on things I was wondering about Mass Effect, and I'm really looking forward to it.
