And the winner by knockout, Stun...raises hand in victory... To be fair, it's rather hard to win a discussion with a wall... The amount of combat seems to prove otherwise. And yes, I also found combat fun, except for the Sewers. XP wouldn't have changed that... it was going down levels of exactly the same looking area killing enemies till eventually you got through. The Obsidian equivelant would be... Malachor V. Did kill XP made that sufferable. Nope... So if area design is bad and forcing massive loads of enemies without any suitable roleplaying XP wont fix it at all, only area redesign will. Or do tell me how fun you thought Malachor was... Someone seems to use SHIFTER. But no, vanilla DX did infact not. Exploration was rewarded, moving forward with quests was rewarded... it didn't matter how you did so, or get to the area in question. Exactly as PoE will do. Like DX PoE wants to offer Stealth, Diplomacy and Combat. None of those are clearly better than the other in DX. If stealth didn't give anything (go ahead, say your "you can reward XP for sneaking past foes" without any tecnhical information about how the game detects that since it would be impossbile to do proper anyway) combat would be better. But no, no combat XP doesn't automatically makes talking better, or stealth. Infact all 3 would be possible. Why oppose this and instead shoe-horn it into how the IE-games where, potentially ruining 2 very good additional approaches adding much replay. But no, why care about other people's play. Combat must rule all, right? You don't think that far... Also, as you were wrong on DX, you're semi-wrong on ME. ME1 did, ME2 replaced it for giving an overall XP in the end. I really don't recall ME3. So yeah, much like ME itself, the XP-system in ME totally changed each game and had no correlaction or seemingly planning between.

*Looks at last few pages* Seems I got a video to find and look at... Anyway, on the discussed stuff; If I EVER think like that... please kill me. Please. But don't you get it. That's why everyone runs past enemies in Doom and Wolfenstein! But apparently Stun already replied "they use no XP" so let's go from there to Deus Ex. Have you tried running past foes there? Even early-game pistol ones will murder you instantly if you do that. It's also a good show how sneaking definitely isn't always "easier and faster" as the pro-XP camp seems to imply. Also I'm pretty sure plenty of people (me included) do kill a lot of people in DX. If you think Vampire: Bloodlines is a bad example (it's not) how about saying what's so bad about Deus Ex that kill-XP would have massively improved? Congratiolations.... your "fix" is what I would call 'totally break the system'... BG1 offered many ways to solve doors, traps. BG2 you better use your thief on them. It also introduced great XP stuff like XP for learning spells. Which added the logicial "remove spell you know and re-learn for XP" Seriously, the BG2 XP-exploits revolving around this kind of giving XP are so numerous, I'm shocked anyone thinks of this of a fix. Similarly for KOTOR1>KOTOR2... where Obsidian was so stupid to add the same stuff. A giant minefield was "yup, level up" instead of "how do I get past there" (seriously, you could level up on Goto's Yacht and Telos just on the mines). It also added the great "place mines, switch map, mine mines... XP!" exploit. Also, KOTOR2 was ridicilous easier than KOTOR1, having insanely early access to Lightning thanks to all this bonus XP. If there's one thing Obsidian failed in upgrading KOTOR it was XP-wise. Let's not repeat the procedure, will we? If you would force everyone to fight every monster in the Sewer each game I'm sure more than one gamer would have turned clinically insane. A solution to bad combat and area design isn't "add XP"... that's just a cookie to do something you hate. With good combat, and good design, you don't need that cookie to get through it. And yes, it definitely worked... there's a reason people really can only mention 2 areas where it fails... the Sewers since horrible design and the endgame since serious too much combat. And XP wouldn't fix that or everyone would say Ravager+Malachor V was teh awesome instead of stopping the game just infront of it.

Yeah, fortunately, most are now getting rid of said regimes... And it really improved things in Iraq, Syria, Egypt... Wait, hold on a second...

I was about to scrutinise MReed, then I re-read it and noticed he didn't mention that MP is two weekends worth of time... good thing I catched that on time before going on an all out "x is so easy to add, it should take an intern 1 hour!" > Actual time; 1 full month of manhours. I'm also somewhat surprised even though we're at 3 pages, no-one has yet mentioned that this ISN'T a pre-order(!). Not for the main game, not for the expansion. If you're thinking of it as a pre-order, you're thinking wrong! Sadly, it doesn't quite seem most people realise this about Kickstarter, with all the following consequences :/

As far as VO goes, I expect at least as much as BG games had. Anything less will be a plus. -
The Netherlands. Probably better known to you as "the country with the most countrymen on MH17" They've already defaulted, they've come to it dozens of times. All they do is increase the plafond, and solve nothing but making things worse. And again, and again. I don't believe the rest you said, they lost a load of money on the terrible Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and the Obama administration now has the difficult task to mop up this fanancial failure. Heavily obstructed of course. And in the end, nothing changed. They pulled out, it's gotten worse (thank you Bush for "freeing" them *sigh*) and they probably have to return one day. Poverty rises, debt increases, year upon year they spend more than they get. It's a recipe for disaster. The question is only when it pops. If I'm going to bet... Ukraine becomes part of the EU and NAVO, which will prevent any "outsiders involving themselves with sovereign matters." You know, hipocrite as usual, as they seriously would not even think about that them themselves their would qualify. It still wonders me how politicans honestly can say 'Russia is involving themself in Ukrain matters, they should keep to themselves' and then send money and communicative equipment. Sure, it's not weapons, but what the hell do you think that gear will be used for? I recall a deathtoll on Maiden. Also, if Yanukovych would instead of riot police send out tanks, airstrikes, artillery and such, yes, the deathtoll would be higher. Don't act like the deathtoll rises because of one side. It's a bit easy to be peaceful protestors when you're not even being put down by Riot police (do you hear the complains about Ferguson? Now imagine instead of police it's the army. Yeah... like that.) Good thing that didn't happen at Maiden... oh wait, that exactly DID happen. It's just much larger skill now since they upped it from one city to half the nation. And aforementioned riot police being swapped out by the army of course. Always this funny argument. And always it raises in me the question; "If the EU is so great, why didn't the Maiden reallocate to an EU country. Instead they want to take Ukraine land! I thought it was because of an EU-coup, then pro-Russians in the East disagreed and the "West" responded by sending in heavy force to kill them all. America even approved of it. The same who complained about Maiden violence, yes.

I'm sure Deven is correct but I still suggest using the PC version instead. Aside from better graphics, you also got the restored content, and various other mods...

It's a real shame and he'll be missed... RIP

The funny thing being that this fear of "unfair elections" was then proceeded by ACTUAL unfair elections, just for the other side... since the West knew better than the East of course. And then they wanted to commit war on the East for being different minded. Yeah, sounds like 'proper leadership' alright... NOT. The cure worse than the disease comes to mind. But I guess the EU makes everyone a little crazy, not just in Ukraine... Ok, all jokes aside, Rostere, I'm a white European and I don't take kindly to my own representatives blindly following American orders and stabbing my economy in the foot, something my ancestors took centuries to build. I take it all quite seriously. I don't want to see self-congratulatory delusional jokes about how we're defeating the dumb Russians while it's the Americans who are defeating Europe. That should only be a concern if it was true.."Americans defeating Europe ".... Sadly, it's true. The US is treating us as enemies. And instead of responding aggression by aggresion (a US favorite) we instead cave in and just go "sure, he bullies us. But we're willing to allow that to be friends. You want us to hurt ourselves to get at Russia, sure we help you. Anything you for you, mr. Bully"... The EU does infact act like a victim that just loves it's victim role. And I don't like it. I would much rather we get closer to Russia and farther from the US than what the current progression is. Because seriously, the Russians have treated us far far better. Hope you're still laughing if the US wants to increase punishment, and the EU being the weak passive followers they are they will agree, and the Russians respond by lowering or severing gas severly. I have no doubt the EU will side with the US even if we're going to be in great trouble then... and since the US doesn't really depend on Russia, and also not much on the EU it will be laughing it's ass of as they just go about destroying their own economies while they're save and sound making suggestions from overseas. It would almost be funny if it wasn't pathetic how weak the EU is, or how atrocious the American's economy is at the moment (record debt and climbing? Check!) Fix your own damn economy before ruining ours too, thank you very much...

Puzzles in crpgs
Hassat Hunter replied to Hiro Protagonist II's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
If puzzles are missing, you'll definitely notice something is missing... RPG's are nothing without some puzzles to break up the monotony. Also to check that nogging of people... RPG's are meant to inspire thinking. Without puzzles it's quickly starts to revolt into just a dumb mindless hack&slash. Can be fun, but not what I look for in an actual RPG. -
Generally just play with 1 or 2 friends... not going online... that's like the worst idea. Who wants to do co-op with strangers? Since we're all good friends, that seriously lessens instances of what you said.

Ah, the see-through voting boxes. Good memories of them being "undemocratic" and "total farce" during the Donesk voting... and then they were used for the 'official' Ukraine vote... Western hipocrasy at it's finest... I almost had forgotten about that.

I'm not sure where 3 million euro + 1 million dollar turned into 5 million euro. I think you got your conversation rate switched around there... If D:OS has bad graphics, sign me up for bad graphics. It has some amazing area-design. And like PoE you really never see your characters up close anyway, and the gear did it's work. While The Witcher I tried... sadly The Witcher II is generic overfilled with even more generic. Sure, it looks pretty, but I wouldn't go and say it had a great art direction as that it just made a super-detailed high-res super-generic game. Bit like Oblivion, but prettier. That one was super-generic as well, and I still prefer Morrowind's look over it even if "uglier" due to actually having an art direction. So I guess we'll have to disagree there. Fortunately, it doesn't seem like BG2 PoE doesn't go the generic route at all, and we're in for some pretty pictures. Good year for RPG-fans...

But he was elected because he promised that Ukraine will make laws which will allow them to join EU and he decide to not sign them. If he would follow what he promised there should not be any coup Policians lie. I AM SHOCKED. UTTERLY UTTERLY SHOCKED. But really, if lying politicans where enough to coup-de-tat each democratic government would be thrown over by now. Instead the 'civilised world' waits for next elections. Why couldn't Ukraine? I have no freakin' clue. You tell me... it certainly doesn't sound very democratic. Of course democratic goverments have flaws... but is a ragtag band of protesters ruling and them excluding half-the-country on a new election democratic *at all* I aim to... no. Also I still find it highly hipocratic that the EU/US where all "VIOLENCE! ABUSE OF POWER!" while the riot police is going on (let's see how riot police in the US acts... yeah...), and then go out "Sure, send out the army to kill them" on similarly protesters just cause they're on the other side. I kinda think the army is way more violent than the riot police, but maybe that's just me. Maybe in your country riot-police have tanks and fly attack helis and aircraft? Mine don't. Let's see... Ukraine believes Russian MIG's violated Ukranian space... and deployed SAM's to counter them. Why there hasn't been mention of them shooting stuff down? Cause the MIG thing is bull****, and the seperatists have no planes. It's seriouly THAT easy. But with SAMs on site, a fear of Russian invasion and an army that's outdated, low morale, badly trained and has no communication whatsoever, it's not farfetched some military general thought the Russians where attacking and gave the order to attack. After all, what's better to claim a plane on your airspace then it's downed corpse on your ground. And of course there's also the chance of major ****ing up like in 2001, something everyone conviently forgets.

Just ballsed up a Payday2 heist after 45 minutes of stealth... That's quite frustrating to loose so much time and get nothing... and I got a co-op player now accussing me of being a greedy bastard and "if only you went with 2 instead of 8 bags we would have made it!" :/

Point me to a single instance of this... Aside from, yes, agreeing changing kill-XP to objective-XP is a good progressive step forward toward roleplaying, questing and termination of grinding gameplay. Also, all dungeons in BG/BG2/IWD/IWD2 were about 4 levels... or less. 4... 15... yeah, it's JUST THE SAME... except for *not*...

Hmmm, I've heard this before... and then the Steam-keys became actual keys afterall and a big mess ensured. Hopefully OE evades that. Also Larian said that the beta-feedback really helped them and in the future they wouldn't lock it to certain paid tiers, since everyone's feedback can help a lot. Of course, might not be the case here, but just pointing it out. Personally not that anxious for it, they can never repeat the experience "wins beta key, gets over to offices, has ingame character" that somehow happened with D:OS (still not sure how), I can wait till december... From what I hear the beta is mostly combat-testing anyway, and I'm personally not that interested by that part, more the story and quests and all... would think it's boring going through the game with that methicallously cut-out...

Well, there are no classes, so you can't expect a full on Rogue class. There are plenty of ways to make one though, using daggers, backstabbing, stealth and a whole bunch of Rogue-skills. And it pains me to agree with Volourn; yes, the final boss is easy. Allowing the player to just infinitely stun it to death cannot make it different than that. But... I don't really mind. It fits well, and I prefer it above having to suddenly do stuff different than the 70 hours before in a rigerous patern and that for 45 minutes, and if you fail you may start all over...

Not sure why no-one mentioned this yet... Divinity Original Sin budget; 4 million Pillars of Eternity budget; 4 million That's... no difference at all. PoE might actually have more money with paypal and backerportal later and all. Not that I mind what's been complained about at all... Graphics are the least of my worries, and I can't think why anyone would object to that and put them before gameplay :/
