If you not even using FoD ( tho most paladin order talents require fod ) i would not go ranged , as ranged paladin is probably best played with Quick Switch and multiple firearms coupled with FoD you can provide nice burst , and then even trigger Per kill abilities like strange mercy , black path or inspiring triumph . For full support/tank melee paladin i would use one handed weapon with guarding and outworn buckler , also Hold the Line talent is very nice , it will allow your paladin to tank up to 3 melees which is enough for most of the time . Enemy ranged characters wont target your tanks anyway unless you really get into their face and start hitting them in melee .

PoTD team advice
Blunderboss replied to Fargus89's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I completed PoTD on Iron Man without priest while soloing what the hell you are on about ? What about u gtfo . I havent read your post further either . You are full of **** , im sorry to break it to you Mr. "Knowshowtocompanion" ... Hiring Mercs and making interesting builds is what PoE is about , you talk about playing with companions and how you are pro at it , but then you said having 3 major caster classes in one party is a must , hahaha , please wake up you can solo the game with any class on PoTD , However playing with Full party of Mercs does not make game automatically faceroll , and more to that Playing with Companions doesnt make the game hard it just makes the whole experience somewhat worse , especially if you are replaying the game , Playing with story companiontards once for the story is fine , but playing with them again is waste of time . Stating the obvious : OP ( the original poster) is replaying the game and he already has a custom hireling party but ofc you are too pro to read that right ? To answer Original Post : No you wont run into any trouble that you could not deal with , considering you have no Priest for Immunities you might want to make sure you have scroll user who can cast same immunity spells via scrolls , also it might be wise to not fight any Fampyr until level 11 when you can make yourself immune to Mind Control via Scroll , other than that not bringing priest kinda gives more depth to use of consumables which can be quite interesting . You can also build one of your paladins to deal with Mind Control as you have 2 of them and paladins have some nice abilities for that , usually i dont find it worth it , while only running with one paladin . -
PoTD team advice
Blunderboss replied to Fargus89's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
no . and story companions are nothing interesting , their builds are limited and their "story" part is shallow and doesnt make up for bad stats , id rather play with 6 interesting characters with interesting builds that i made myself , there are hundreds of builds in PoE that are worth trying and will be way more fun than listening to some crap lines companions have . -
Dex starts kicking in only after you reached 0 Recovery , it then reduces frames needed for your weapon attack , If anything DeX is useless if you dont reach 0 rec as recovery time nulifies any speed you would get from dex , but after you go to 0rec its up to DEX to make you attack even faster , dont get me wrong DEX makes your attacks faster even if you have recovery but , when you need to wait trough recovery bar DEX speed increase of one frame is irrelevant . High DEX is decent with : Casters , Melees with 0 rec , Ranged Characters ( For reload speed , or for attacking a bit faster as they dont reach 0 rec too often , especially with Stormcaller you will have decent chunk of recovery left so high DEX decrease that last Chunk by percentage )

I never go with story companions, except my first playtrough back when PoE was released , for me they are just NPC's who i kill for items in act one and ignore the later ones , i only take Aloth and Zahua for stronghold duty as their personal quests doesnt start immediately . There are too many fun and interesting builds in PoE ( some of them that require particular attributes ) to waste time with aloth n co who are just generic crpg companions aka im Wizard/Tank/Healer without any real companion quests lines . Exception can be made for companions with unique abilities like Hiravias or Palegina .

So , the "damaging" part is real in this build , Im trying Kind Wayfarer with 2-Handed Scion of Flame build , started with Durance Staff in Act1 which is pretty nice , but now that im in defiance bay at level 5 and have firebrand im amazed by the numbers , i took Scion of Flame talent at lvl 4 and strange mercy at lvl 2 , my paladin with 22( 20 Base +2 Food ) Might is hitting for 40+ , critting for 80+ and can crit up to 135 ! with Flames of Devotion . Next level up im taking 2-Handed Style talent for even more damage Here is screenshot of 135 FoD Crit :D http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/271716374325286839/FE6BCD372CE7D50845CFF60A544C682BE43371AD/ Also strange mercy works with scrolls , using fan of flames scroll with 20+ MIG and Scion of Flame works wonders

Nice build , i always wanted to try out Powder Burns , why pistols not 3 blunderbuss tho ? with -20DR on target blunderbuss should be devastating especially if driving flight works with all blunderbuss shots . I always loved the idea of using Vicous Aim + Quick Switch as it literally gives free damage if you micro it a bit Edit : also in other thread i read that Vicious Aim works with Projectile Scrolls , which works with all the -DR stuff might be great addition after you fire all 4 guns of yours

Is a barbarian worth it?
Blunderboss replied to Kingsman's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I completely agree that carnage is one hell of a trick , and class worthy mechanic , just never forget that wizard has RANGED CARNAGE , which is way way way way way way better than barbarians . On other hand wizards cant tank themselves ( if they are using blast ) so it kinda balances it out . Barbarians make really solid front liners as long as you know and willing to build them correctly , they can be super good with 2handers , Dual-Wield , and 1h+Shield , in fact Barbarian is the king of Unlabored Blade builds which is king of DPS weapons , barbarian built with non bashing shield and unlabored will always outdamage anybody in the party attacking with unlabored blade once in 25 frames and hitting at least 3 opponents is a real deal -
Just pick Blast and Penetrating Blast talents wizard has and your implements will do AoE Damage and will work like carnage just better because its ranged and you can aim it where you please , blast will also trigger your weapon effects like stunning , spell striking etc. , for example if you use Rod of Pale shades it will be able to stun in area of effect , golden gaze triggers blast with each projectile , you can even use implement that prones on crit . Here is a build by Boeroer that focuses on using blast https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/83681-class-build-zeblastian-hurtstacker-autoattacking-double-trouble-dps-wizard/

a) Blast wizard is always good , honestly its best wizard build when you think about it and it doesnt require you to spam per rest stuff . b) Bleak Walker( Dual Wield ) or Kind Wayfarer ( 2Handers : Firebrand , Redeemer , Abydons Hammers ) if healing c) Take Chanter you will have enough heals with Druid,Paladin and Chanter's Ancient Memory d) this belongs in character build section i believe

Sabres are always good choice , as they provide highe base damage from the go , but i dont think Rimecutter can ever be better than Unlabored Blade , Using Unlabored + Rimecutter will always be better than dual Rimecutters . Unlabored Blade can easily be made into Mythic it gives +65% Damage and +23 (18 Mythic +5 Dagger, another +4 if your rogue is MC and has Flick of the Wrist) Accuracy on top of 2 Healing Chains , 1 Dimensional Shift , and chance to Cast firebug ( even if its low chance ) and the 1.2 Speed enchant which is the only reason to pick Rimecutter in the first place The accuracy difference itself between Exceptional Rimecutter and Mythic Unlabored Blade with Flick of the Wrist is 19 , you can enchant rimecutter to superb with rare ingredient and it will still be 15 accuracy difference .

What i personally like about Dual-Wield Paladins and Fighters , that they are tanky enough to dish out somewhat sustained ( not extra high ) DPS trough entire fight meanwhile not giving a single fck that enemies are attacking them , meanwhile other squishier DPS classes cant really tank on their own when dual-wielding , I think this more than makes up for lack of big numbers Also i think Paladin with Sacred Immolation does more damage than most of other melees just that it comes so late in the game . Range of Sacred Immolation AoE is really decent and damage is decent too and it does not require any circumstances to use , you just do at start of the fight and enemies burn
