Don't you wish your party members can ALL fight...
alanschu replied to Eddo36's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Problem with that is if they decide to take away your stronger characters for whatever reason. If the only characters you enjoyed really playing with end up getting captured or something, then the game will essentially become unwinnable since the rest of your party would still be back at level 2. I don't think the developers should force people to play with NPCs simply to level them up. -
No one is saying they expect the game to be completely different based on their minor choices.....but the fact that any of the decisions you made on Taris become irrelevant shouldn't be ignored because you could make some choices. If merely deciding which group you want to kill is enough choice for some of you...then I am surprised....because that's all the Vulkar/Bek situation was. When I sided with the Vulkars...I was hoping to have some access to Bastila and maybe free her from there, or Brejik's consent to just take her since I basically just handed him control of Lower Taris. BUT......my actions in Lower Taris had NO EFFECT on the environment at hand.....except for one excruciatingly tiny detail......instead of Brejik complaining that I cheated....he complains that he later finds out that the prisoner is a Jedi. Whoop-dee-friggin-do. Not once did I hope that siding with the Vulkar's would change how the end of the game played....but since I basically swayed the entire power of lower Taris to him, there is no reason for Lower Taris to remain exactly the same way that it would be if the Beks had won. Second of all, I have no idea where the heck GhostofAnakin got the notion that anyone wanted helping the Beks to save Taris: I just looked through the thread again, and no where do I see anyone saying Taris should be saved, so where the heck did you get this idea from? In this sense it most certainly is the Straw Man fallacy, since you are attacking a distorted view of the original point. And to go to your Fallout example, based on how I play in New Reno.....the end of the game actually is affected. After defeating Frank Horrigan, you get the end game summaries of what happens to all the places shortly after the fact. New Reno actually has a large variety of possible endings, based on how you play. In fact...it has the most...10 variations. 1. Everyone is dead: Accomplished by killing all 4 of the bosses 2. Tribal uprising: Impregnate Mrs. Bishop or her daughter, and tell Mrs. Bishop to move on 3. Bishop Child: Same as above...but without telling Mrs. Bishop to move on. 4,5,6....Bishops/Salvatores/Mordinos rule 7. Mordino's power Reigns 8. Wright's seize power violently 9. Wright's attack Mordinos and get slaughtered. 10. Wright's rule fairly. This is in addition to further elaboration on the murder of Richard Wright and Myron. There are a variety of ways to make sure that one family does or does not gain power. Sure, it doesn't change the way any of the game is played, but your actions in specific towns do affect how the epilogues of each city turn out. In this sense, the choice presented to the player becomes one of some meaning, since it did actually affect something. Blowing up Taris afterwards was a convenient way of making any decisions irrelevant. It worked with the story so I didn't mind a whole lot though. [spoilerS]The destruction of Dantooine once you learn that you are Revan is also pretty convenient....meant they didn't need to go back and change the way the Council spoke with you.....a little lazy IMO, but it worked within the confines of the story so I don't hold it against them[/spoilerS]

One thing I would like is the ability to use second tier powers when you have the third one. Sometimes I found Force Whirlwind to be more useful than Force Wave.

Ok yah where did you get this information, and is there a link. It's probably because this topic, cause you know credit I dont deserve is always nice. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Except that information was posted a loooooooooooooooooong time ago. So no, you don't deserve any credit But it made sense in terms of the story. If Juhani and Jolee just stood there it would be sillier. Admittedly there should have been more options in the game for influencing NPC light side and dark side....but fortunately KOTOR 2 will have this. I assume you are talking about 45+ damage with ALL of your attacks...since mathematically I cannot see a 45 ever appearing with any of the pistols.....unless you're using sneak attack. In any case, by the end of the game with the Guardian's lightsaber crystal modified, each attack could easily average 45. Add in the fact that you can get 5 attacks a round with the dual wield and master speed and you're doing between 200 and 250 damage a turn. That's because half the shots fired are not "real shots," but merely extra shots added simply because if Carth was firing only two shots per turn, it would make combat seem much slower. In any case, Akari mentioned a few months ago that they were definitely improving ranged combat. If it wasn't for Carth I would have never had a chance getting off Taris with my level 2 Scoundrel (I wanted to get 18 levels of Consular).

Although since Taris gets bombed into Oblivion, it doesn't change the story a whole lot. You still have to swoop race and whatnot...and even though you are a Vulkar, Brejik still gets his panties in a bunch when you try to claim your prize.

A whole new respect for devs
alanschu replied to Product of the Cosmos's topic in Developers' Corner
To be fair, the textures were simple, the AI was simple, and the effects of the game were not exceptional. If you look at the game for just the game......then it's quite poor. But the view of the game is much more impressive when you realize it's only 98k big. A retail game has much more scripting, graphics, and sheer scope (among other things) that are gonna greatly increase the size. Although I'm sure there some inherent "waste" when being made by a large team of developers like a retail product. -
Starting the game with a questionaire
alanschu replied to Atomic Space Vixen's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I wonder if it's going to be straight up questions and answers, or something more subtle like "So what do you know about Revan" with an answer like "I heard he was captured by the Republic and they tried to make him good again..but alas he fell to the darkside again." or "I heard she was captured by the Republic and redeemed. In the end she stopped the Sith." I think I would prefer something like this, but I would imagine some people would like it to be as completely straightforward as possible so that there is no confusion. -
Could always use Aurora engine for BG2 I suppose. Obsidian is probably quite good with it by now Although I do not think they are making it, but maybe :\

Considering the game is wrapping up its development, how relevant is this section of the forum. I just ask because I still see people putting forth suggestions that simply would not be conceivable at this stage of the development cycle, in addition to suggestions that have already been confirmed to not be in the game.

Or a security skill check (which I would prefer...make skills more useful).

A whole new respect for devs

Some guys made a 3D FPS crammed into like 98KB -
But they keep Bastila's ending open-ended however.

Did any saber crystals add force points?

1up's Urquhart Feargus interview
alanschu replied to funcroc's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm pretty sure that Dark Forces is all about retrieving the Death Star plans for the first Death Star. -
You had as much points into Charisma and Wisdom as possible. You supplemented your Wisdom with Qel-Droma robes and that wierd "helmet/mask" thing you get from the beast on Kashyyyk. This gives you +7 to your Wisdom. And you are all the way lightside, so you get the +3 Charisma bonus as well. In the end, you get crazy Force Points as a result from these insane attributes (Charisma and Wisdom probably both past 20). You also did not level up your character (aside from the Endar Spire level up) until you became a Consular. EDIT: You may have the Star Forge Robes instead...which I think also give a bonus to Wisdom.

You hear a lot about Czerka corporation in the game, even to the extent that you see blurbs about them in the loading screens. I think Czerka was supposed to have a much larger role in the game, but it probably didn't fit into the scope of the game. I wouldn't mind if Obsidian explored the evilness of Czerka corporation a little bit more.

Which might not be such a bad thing. You can always choose different force powers on a different play through the game.

What's with the silence?
alanschu replied to Ivan the Terrible's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
With Akari coming in on weekends and whatnot, I would bet that the game is coming along at a frenzied pace right now. They're probably getting pretty close to finishing it up. I know when a big project is close to being finished for me, I generally stay on it as long as possible. Realizing the end is near is a good motivator for me -
I don't think it is so much implied that Revan was a male. I'm sure Bioware was anal about making sure any masculine identifiers would never appear (no he's or him's...only "Revan"). I think any "implication" of Revan being male or female is based entirely on our sociological preconceptions of what type of person would appropriately fit the role that Revan had. If there was a band of uber-powerful Amazon women out there that somehow got a copy of the game that played it, they'd probably assume Revan was a female as males just wouldn't do that sort of stuff.

People make it sound like adding multiplayer support to an engine is like flicking a switch. Scripting issues aside, there has not been any netcode consideration to the creation of the engine. None of us really know how difficult it would be to implement it (and implement it well). If it was truly not a big deal, then there would be no reason for them not to do it. So I can only speculate that it is much more difficult than I would imagine.

Um....if Obsidian is making two games right now, wouldn't that mean that they are making KOTOR 2 and NWN 2? How the heck did you get KOTOR 3 out of that?

Stop Posting Here the Game is done
alanschu replied to JediMafia's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Because they haven't released a lot of the newer stuff for the sake of not spoiling it. Check out the latest issue of PC Gamer. One thing that I can think of right off the top of my head is that they mentioned having parts of the story where the party splits up because it needs to be in two different places at the same time....and the developers acknowledge getting this idea from these forums. -
Light Sabers MUSY cast a glow
alanschu replied to JediMafia's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Ugh....we need a smiley restriction or something. No more than 10 by one person per day. -
I would have no problems with a KOTOR co-op multiplayer, but since the engine doesn't support it right now, it'd be way too much work. Maybe for the future, but not now.

I think it would not be implausible to not actually kill your apprentice (although I think it should be an option). If he tries to overtake you, and you slap him around like the goof he is and explain to him that he is a weakling compared to you, and that he is too hasty or something like that, it could turn into just another lesson. He would certainly think you are much more badass.
