I like how people talk about the tactics of Maul in the Duel of Fates fight and how a lot of people seem to be quite impressed by how he lead the Jedi on. However, whenever I speak with anyone that actually has experience with weapons training, they generally regard the Duel of Fates fight as the least realistic and most silly. I do think it is the best looking one too though.

Because some comic book said so?

STALKER would be a good one too. What is this Dungeon Lords game?
-
That would probably be a huge part of the problem. If you look closely in KOTOR 1, the lightsabers don't actually give off light (which is probably why it "cost" too much in terms of performance). It would not be too impressive if there were night sequences where the lightsaber didn't actually light things up. As for retexturing...you don't need to do that for less light (which is all that darkness would be doing).

Must be a technical limitation perhaps? I can see potential nightmares if a situation is heavily scripted. Although at the same time I would think it would be possible to implement most scripts with some considerations. I don't see, from a technical standpoint, why a game like Call of Duty (which is heavily scripted) would be technically limited from a co-op standpoint. However, perhaps they would need to rework their AI algorithms since they seem to follow you around. Maybe with two entities they would get confused and broken? Having said that....I would really love to play Call of Duty co-op :D

Thanks for the clarification.

If KotOR was made into a movie...

If KotOR was made into a movie...

I'm a big Michael Biehn fan. Apparently James Cameron was too Guess he's a cult figure though....too bad he wasn't a bit more popular after some of his bigger movies like Terminator and Aliens. Figured those roles would put him on the map (or at least typecast as some cool tough guy). But then again, it's hard to convince people you didn't do Navy SEALS (of which Michael Biehn was the only redeeming factor IMO ). I wonder if he and Bill Paxton are friends at all, seeing as they were in a lot of movies together with James Cameron (along with the Governator too boot). -
Blockable in the original trilogy????? In any case, I'm sure they could implement it with some sort of AC or Dex or maybe even based on BAB (since that's your skill with a lightsaber). Or maybe a combination with your saving throw. Beat the DC and it does half damage...beat the DC by 10 and you block it. Make it a reflex save so that Dexterity can help it out.

Yup. Heal worked perfectly, and I generally just used it as a ran along (providing I was even hurt at all).

Self Taught - how many get along with this?
alanschu replied to xanas3712's topic in Developers' Corner
I know this wasn't directed towards me, but I feel confident in my decision to go into CompSci because even the boring coding I still find really fun. Our first project this year was to do a run-length encoding file compression which is really straight forward, but I still had oodles of fun doing (although it would probably be more of a creative algorithm thing though). -

Though programming practice is usually covered in such degree's along side the algorithm theory. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agreed. But from what I hear only so much for the first years (I'm only in my second year, but already the instruction for C/C++ is much quicker than when we studied Java the year before). It's funny how an algorithm can really speed up the efficiency of your program. One of the simpliest and most obvious ones is summation of numbers 1 through x. It is exceptionally easy to make a loop that can do this (a simple while loop), a much quicker solution is [x(x+1)]/2. In the first method, you have to do x assignments for every number, whereas in the second method you only perfom the instructions one time...so if X is huge, it's way faster. Admittedly this is a really, really, REALLY simple example, but as I learn the algorithms it's kinda neat how much more efficiently I can code, and like Gorth mentioned, see the errors of my previous code. As for xanas, sounds like you are well on your way. Although I speak from limited experience, I'd recommend getting a book on Data Structures and Algorithms. Data Structures help you deal with the common structures such as stacks, queues, the various linked-lists, hast tables etc. It also generally helps you to analyse the efficiency of these structures. (e.g. for small lists, a linked-list works fine, but for huge lists, a hash table with linked lists works much, much, faster). Algorthims will go along far in these instances as well. Coding efficiently cannot be overstated IMO, and will help you out in the long run. As for post-secondary education, look into some scholarships and other financial aid. It's possible to get bursaries from various organizations based on financial need (I know I did). Furthermore, look into scholarships from the institutions you wish to attend. I found out that there is over $50,000 in various scholarships for just Computing Science students (not including the scholarships for the Faculty of Science, which CompSci students are a part of as well). Work your ass off in school (which is mostly what it takes) and get a piece of the pie. That's my plan for this year :D -
That's what the poster just before you just said! Force Clairvoyance is in the game.

Heal was already excessively useful IMO.

When underwater and in space
alanschu replied to Zach Morris's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
??????? I always had Master Speed on, and it was still slow as hell. I played it on the PC though. -
Agreed. I would wager a lot of the success of games like Diablo 2, Starcraft, Half-Life, and whatnot are largely because CD-Keys require you to purchase the game in order to play it online.

I would like to see blasters do more damage, albeit for a different reason. I think it would be cool to be able to play a Jedi that defeats his enemies primarily by deflecting all their shots back at them

Check here Specifically: I/O (Input / Output) w-5x DVD-ROM Type 9 DVD - 8.5 GB single sided 4x Proprietary USB Game Ports (12 Mbps) Broadband Ethernet Connection (100 Mbps) Proprietary Audio/Video Connector DVDs seem to be double layered at that, with the 8.5 GB storage space.

Convenient. Although my inquiry was a genuine one. I can indeed make assumptions and guesses as to where people get things....but none of the ones I could think of were really legitimate. In which case, acquiring a Corporate Edition would only be to make the illegitimate acquisition simpler. However, you did mention people who "buy" windows, so I assumed acquiring it was through legitimate means. Were you implying that people were buying it from corporations that they work for or something, as I suppose that makes sense. But the reason I asked was because I cannot "guess" where people buy Windows XP Corporate Edition since I myself was looking for it (although I doubt I could justify the extra cost IMO).
-
Where exactly do these people buy the corporate edition of Windows? And more importantly, where do these people buy single copies of it? The only way I've seen Corporate Edition packages go out is often with limited time frame licensing (i.e. they have to renew their license after x years...kinda like a lease), and it was only available if you bought a large number of copies.

"It doesn't matter it's fixed?" What a great perspective. We'll do all this work determining what is or what isn't, even though it doesn't matter. Let's say it gets "fixed" and in KOTOR3 they revisit the valley and it looks completely different than KOTOR1/2. What do they do when people get pissed off because for some bizarre reason the Valley from the first two games looks completely different? Nope....it's the Valley of the Dark Lords. Odd...because you just told me that they could just "erase" it (not sure how they'll do that) or overlook it. Don't know how that means "fixed." Furthermore, don't know how that means "continuity is strong."
-
True. But that still doesn't dictate who would win a one on one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But I do think it can help determine who is the better player (since there is so much more to basketball than one-on-one).

Dueling feat or Double Weapon feat?
alanschu replied to Zach Morris's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Not that I know of, outside of KOTOR that is. Of course I never did care much for the EU so meh -
Where will you learn new powers?
alanschu replied to OrganisedChaos's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Kinda hard to get the evil Sith Lord to train you when the only thing he wants to do is kill you. Might be different if you are learning through some other source though (say reading up about it in a holocron). -
How do I "prove" anything, since it is just two interpretations of a fictional place. As for anything that LFL comes up with for "fixing" the break in continuity....what's it matter? They could say ignore, or fix, or whatever, but if the majority of the people think something different, what has the LFL truly accomplished?
