  1. The beginning is ... Not really a great showcase of how the rest of the game actually works
  2. While the GOG version does contain the fan patch, it does not use any of the features 'restoring' cut content - in other words, it's purely for fixing bugs and stabilizing the game. GOG usually tries to offer a functioning game which remains as true to the original vision as possible (even if the original vision was a bit botched at the end)
  3. Good post. This nearly made me fall off my chair tho.
  4. Coolsies! Have a rat!
  5. Breaking news: Stuff gets easier as you get more experienced with it.
  6. Switch or Hollow Knight? I've already caved on the latter, and caving in on the former is just a matter of time. ... Which is the point where I'll fail to not re-buy the latter again.
  7. I, for one, assume Fenix was quite simply never into adventure games at large. I'm actually pretty sure I did play Monkey Island at some point, but only like first few screens. But, at the time my family actually did have money to buy a computer, Myst was out - and that was an audiovisual revelation ... That I didn't actually enjoy at all.
  8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F9ahZQ7oP0 Exceptional documentary. No new information for old Monkey Island fans I suppose, I never really was one of them tho.
  9. ... And apparently, the other big AAA project they have planned is also exclusively SP. And Rage 2 is set for release in 2019, not exactly years away. As far as I can see, Bethesda has published a whole bunch of my favourite games of past 5 years or so, I'd most certainly call the company being very favorable for SP experiences. There's no such thing as a 'Multiplayer feature', considering all Bethesda's games are either MP or SP-exclusive, as they should be. Yes, Prey and Wolfenstein will receive MP DLC, but considering both of their respective SP components are long released and finished, that won't particularly influence them. There was a gameplay demo presented to press.
  10. a) Everybody was accused of everything during that weirdly publicized flame war (to the point where having neither opinion nor strong feelings on it instantly made me a nazi on both sides, somehow? That actually was kind of fun.) b) Not really defending the person in question, I'm not a big fan of mr. Portnow who always felt massively pretentious to me. It's just really difficult to defend against any kind of hearsay posted on social networks with how extremely binary reactions tend to be.
  11. Well they announced a bunch of small MP projects, one big MP project and another big SP game, so ... Y'know. (with TES VI presumably being SP-focused as well) It's not like that statement obliges them to only produce SP games - and as long as I can ignore the MP-focused stuff and great SP games keep coming out, I'll be happy.
  12. There's also only ever one side to a story, that side is invariably 100% correct and everyone agrees with the said side. Including the wrong-doer, who then cackles under his/her evil mustache. 's why we don't need courts.
  13. Was this even posted? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKn9yiLVlMM Because if not, it should have been. It's extremely positive as these videos tend to be, nonetheless some of it is interesting stuff.
  14. So... Prey DLC is a roguelite. That requires the base game to play. A roguelite. That's not in any way stand-alone and requires the base game to play. ... But why though? Where's the major overlap of 'Immersive sim with deep lore and story to tell' fans and 'Roguelite' fans? Edit: Oh and it's on constant timer. In a game which required systematic exploration and slow, meticulous approach to combat. I mean... I appreaciate Arkane experimenting, but ... Why though?
  15. So, turns out launching the escape pod in Prey with two people in it without disengaging outer hatch has two results: a) You can check out what does Talos I's escape pod launch mechanism looks like as you can now enter the hole said pod ripped open b) You can catch up to the pod lifelessly drifting through space and loot the two people you just killed Success!
  16. Because it's a really difficult game to showcase in a trailer. There's a demo on Steam - which isn't really entirely representative either for multiple reasons, but it's a ton better than a trailer and at least there's a safe bet that if you like the demo (which covers beginning of the game and ends just as the game opens up, which is where the real meat of Prey starts), you'll like what the rest of the game has to offer a ton more. It's really difficult to put stuff like "Oh crap, power's cut in the room. Wait, there's a sparkling relay in the opened panelling in the wall... Maybe if I backtrack a bit, find the relay that I noticed in the maintenance closet and plug it it, power'll go back up? ... Oh cool, that worked!" into a trailer. Showcasing mechanics-driven stuff is generally really hard without being able to directly toy around with it, and Prey's utilitarian art style doesn't have much of a wow effect until you get immersed in the game. ... Shivering Isles happened to be really good, actually. They did have their hands full with Horse Armor before that tho, so ...Eh.
  17. It's System Shock 3 in all but name, and it certainly matches (and surpasses) SS games in many aspects. Can't really get much better than that. Couldn't stand combat on my first playthrough either, I'm loving it now tho. Turned out I was just doing things wrong. Remember, killing everything is not the goal of the game, especially in areas you've already explored - and avoiding opponents is actually really easy. And for every situation where you point a gun at a baddie and shoot said baddie, there's an alternate solution which is way faster and easier. The direct combat is difficult (and annoying) to make sure you understand that direct combat is a waste of time and resources, for the most part.
  18. Nonsense, of course you bring the crossbow. How else would you squeak your opponents into all those carefully staged environmental hazards just for something to go horribly wrong and kill you instead!?
  19. It pretty much tanked DOOM's modding scene in spite of the game providing you with decent modding tools from the getgo, so I'd hope Bethesda would have learned. ... Or, y'know, not.
  20. They actually react to all movement, so just throwing a random piece of junk in their general direction will set them off. While it works a lot better in microgravity, it'll save your butt (and ammo) on the station as well.
  21. To be fair, I've never seen Interstate 76 before and the graphics just generally seem so heavily stylized the game looks... Well, charming at any rate.
  22. Oh yea, that was a pain. On the other hand, it was that room where I found that when you use the power to eliminate PSI abilities from Technopaths, their turrets do indeed all drop. I also found that when you shoot said Technopaths with a GLOO gun while they're defenseless, they're going to freeze and fall down to their deaths. That was a fun discovery.
  23. Not particularly, considering both Evil Within games, both Wolfenstein games, Doom 2016, Prey, Dishonored II ... Don't forget they're also publishers.
  24. Oh I've just finished the alien powers run (I'm now on human-only, genicidal run to wrap the game up completely. Maybe.) Anyway, I've picked the hardest difficulty (in which the game forces you to experiment a bit more and dig deeper into its mechanics so it just generally ended up feeling easier than normal, funnily enough, by not letting you get away with stuff that doesn't work) and it did feel easier than when I was trying to avoid most alien powers on my first run - you can instantaneously take control of both organic and mechanical enemies (yes, temporarily, but it's enough to either just bugger off or weaken everyone sufficiently), as well as shut them down (the power that simply lets you turn off alien psychic powers is just massively overpowered, turning both the mind-cotrolly aliens and machine-controlly aliens into utter jokes). And, just to make you even more powerful, you have a shield that makes you immune to damage. Sure, you can't hack and repair, but vast majority of content has alternate routes leading towards it. Inventory space is limited, that's true enough - but the PSI hypo thingies are rather cheap to craft, to the point where I didn't really have to limit myself in using said powers towards the end of the game.
  25. +1 for swapping anywhere in friendly areas. It'd be quite handy. +1 for making their inventory availible in friendly areas as well, altho that'd mean new UI bits which can be tricky to implement and frankly, as I don't tend to have a lot of overlap in party equipment, it's not that important (to me anyway) Do you like swapping party members or do you just hate fun!?
