Well I can't say I ever enjoyed any of the Witcher games for the mechanics, really. It's true that the original game at least tried to do something interesting, give player visual progression of character's abilities, make finding new gear a lot more meaningful and create a more involved alchemy system. At the end of the day tho, without its story, I'd not play the original Witcher for more than a few hours at most. Isn't Shadowrun: Dragonfall out for android?

When creating a game, there's an options button ... Somewhere that allows you to significantly hasten both turn progression and combat. The empty clicks on End Turn button don't disappear altogether by switching it to fast mode, but they get reduced significantly - the game's length can be effectively cut in half that way.

Keep in mind that when I say W3 is 'completely different', I'm not talking about combat, because who'd play Witcher for the crappy combat system anyway. I'm not talking about progression either, because... Well, who'd play Witcher for the crappy progression anyway. I'm talking about entirely different focus of the game's writing, which is this time a lot more personal than W2 and somewhat more personal than W1, along with the writers obviously getting a lot more experienced - there's a LOT less cringe this time around. I'm talking about quest design, which, for the most part, seem to have made a massive leap for the better. And, yes, I'm also talking about the open world, which does offer quite a lot to explore and means a fairly significant shift in dynamic when compared to the previous games in the series. Regardless, I know of at least two people at this point who hated previous Witcher games and loved W3. Just... Don't play it for combat.

In Kingdoms of Amalur, there's tons of things to find, plenty of quests to finish and many environments to discover, all wrapped in a very satisfying combat system. Not really my kind of game (more of an action RPG), yet I played it for like 20 hours and I'm pretty sure I didn't even get halfway through. Just to throw something into the mix, Sunless Sea is a great game and it's unlikely you've ever played anything similar - an RPG-ish exploration game in a Victorian ... Underground ... Ocean. There's a fake star in there. And The End. Oh right, and when it comes to Witcher III - don't let its popularity turn you off, it's a genuinely well written game that's a ton of fun to play. If you bounced off one of its predecessors, W3 is completely different and, apparently, penned by someone who can actually write engaging and emotional stories.

*rattles* *rattles* *throws the pile of stuff on the table* Now that Steam sale proved to be utterly underwhelming to me, I ended up grabbing: Thief: Gold and RollerCoaster Tycoon II, which means a ton of fun times with my laptop. Total Annihilation: Kingdoms, which... Seems to have good ideas, but not very well realized. Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, which is an obscure Pillars of Eternity ripoff that I didn't enjoy in the past and will give it another shot now. SOMA 'cause safe mode got added (I really hated how the game handled stealth, see) For free: Grim Fandango, which I never played so I'm quite looking forward to it. An oxen herd Hard West, that I'm having great fun with. A good haul all in all.

Playing through Hard West. It's... Actually really good fun, if you fancy combination of XCOM-esque combat and choose your own adventure styled world map. I really dig how they implemented a separate world map mechanic for each chapter with accompanying UI unique to it, that's really neat. There's also multiple difficulties, challenges and such to keep the replay value high, aside from the ability of making different choices in the individual chapters. Storyline is properly grisly, as you'd kinda expect from a Weird West game that has demons walking the Earth, and while many players seem to dislike the choice of making the individual chapters more or less loosely connected separate stories, I for one am a fan as that allows you to explore more aspects of the world developers are presenting us. On the other hand, the game is a bit on the easy side (playing medium difficulty) with majority of combat just being against Goon #x. While there are several weapon classes with their own behaviors and playing cards system granting characters abilities to mix things up, tactical combat still ends up being rather simplistic due to lack of variation in enemy behaviors. At least AI is decent I suppose. Not... Good, mind you. Just decent. Nonetheless, I do enjoy the shooting bits as they never overstay their welcome, and they do sometimes make themselves more interesting by having you start out of combat, giving you a little positional puzzle to solve while sneaking around enemies. Yeah, I'm halfway through the base game and I bought the DLC too, I can see myself playing this quite a lot. Flawed game to be sure, but enjoyable nonetheless.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - 'NON-FAKE-NEWS EDITION'
Fenixp replied to Rosbjerg's topic in Computer and Console
Specifically the one that said 'Screw being AssCreed, you're playing a pirate!' It then turned out to be better than all the other AssCreeds. -
Finished that a month ago. It's incredible how much unnecessary **** did developers manage to cram into the space of "My old apartment"
-
And publisher then pays (or doesn't) developers to create more games for them based on their financial success (unless we're talking older games) so...

I think Bodkishi meant "No, keep the pro." -
When it comes to Dishonored, do play Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches DLSs - it's a 2-part story with the main protagonist being Daud, starting with Knife of Dunwall. They're both fantastic DLCs, expanding the base game's story and paving the way for Dishonored 2.

I've got you covered -
There's actually not nearly as many trash mobs in White March than in the original campaign - which doesn't mean they're not there, just that the base game was really bad with its encounter design and White March improved upon it quite a bit. Not to mention it telling a pretty epic story in itself, significantly furthering lore of the game, adding brand new class of items to use with their own stories to uncover, and then there's three new companions, filling the gaps left by the original ones.
-
It messes with difficulty curve, but yes, you definitely should - especially now that you're in Act II since it's for level 7-9 characters.
-
Sorry Alien: Isolation and Jagged Alliance 2, I've had to omit you both in the end Former because of its fairly big problems and latter because, just before I wanted to score it with 101 points so that there's one left for the other games, I've noticed Hurlshot's post which I felt influenced by and so I've had to drop JA2 from the list for the sake of fairness.

I thought I'd finally buy season pass for Deus Ex: MD, but then I saw the store description: "...snip... The “Assault” and “Tactical” packs, which include various weapons and items. 4 Praxis Kits. 5000 Credits. 1000 Weapon Parts. ...snip..." And... Yeah, I think I'll replay the game and then get the season pass, because I'm betting there's no way of disabling the extra items.

What is your game of the year for 2017?
Fenixp replied to SonicMage117's topic in Computer and Console
A tie between Prey and Nier: Automata I suppose. Both games are pretty much an exact opposite of each other, so that's a thing I can do, eh? -

Fenixp replied to Rosbjerg's topic in Computer and Console
And break it like they did with BG1? Nah, as long as Beamdog's promise of mods remaining compatible stays true, this is precisely what we need - a re-released of a dated game that works properly and will work properly on future machines. -
After re-playing Prey, which incidentally is pretty damn great, I'm trying to round up my flesh and steel pacifist playthrough as Emily in Dishonored 2. Arkane's level design needs more love.

All those free DLCs for TW3 would probably come out as a part of the game without any further ado from majority of other developers. -
I hear that didn't go down too well. Aren't some games ... Even more crazy expensive now?
-
That's so bizarre I'm totally down for it.

Games so good it costs human misery to make them.
Fenixp replied to EbonyBetty's topic in Computer and Console
And you may have noticed that this entire topic talks about more than just CDP: Red. Anyway, large companies are quite careful to have paperwork in check when they break law, or make sure to do so in such a way that legal system can't get to it. Loopholes exist and are routinely abused. "They checked the company" means very little when speaking up is just not worth it to the employees.- 79 replies

Oh yes, we have those laws in Czech Republic too. In my career I've already encountered at the very least three employers who either found loopholes to circumvent them and make unpaid perfectly legal or quite simply don't lead proper records of the overtimes. "So, your working agreement says right here you're working daily from 8 to 17 with an hour for a break so that's precisely the time you're spending at work, right?" When you say "WRONG!", you may win a lawsuit - good luck finding even loosely related job in the country again.- 79 replies
