  1. It occurs to me that these forums may just be in the running for the coveted Tiny Award for the largest collection of poorly constructed poll choices ever... As to level scaling I'm pretty sure Josh has already said thats not happening in PE...which IMO is a very good thing... J.E. Sawyer, on 02 October 2012 - 11:38 AM, said: I don't know where this topic came from, but I don't expect to use level scaling much, if at all, in PE.
  2. I had to ask google - apparently one lick of a PSP is her claim to fame...
  3. I think this is right mentality to have here. I'm don't know how games are actually made, so I don't know how all this new content is going to be managed. calmed a lot of my fears as far as small budgets and what not. I believe Obsidian has proven they know what it takes to do projects with limited resources, so I don't think they are going to push the date back. However, we should all be prepared to be okay with a later release date should they choose to do so. I'm not so sure about this - I think the reason a lot of folks are leaning towards expecting this bumping back the release date is just becuase when games are produced in a more normal fashion (through a publisher) release dates are never mentioned this early and may typically be pushed back. In this case I think what people are missing and/or forgetting is that Obsidian has already said that the stretch goals have been planned with the idea that if they get to X amount they will be able to add the staff & resources in order to facilitate the work involved in adding those goals - it's not like each goal is going to put all that new work on the exisitng staff and resources. I'm also fairly confident that they considered carefully what each goal would take and erred on the side of caution knowing full well that issues always arise and I'm wagering that they are confident in their ability to reach those goals and I plan to remain very optomistic about that happening rather than going with the half-empty or Murphys Law outlook!
  4. I suspect the real issue here is the total number ordered and how much lead time it needs to ship on time with the game - this could easily be months before release so there would certainly be a point at which they would either have to cut off "new orders" and/or decide how many "extra pieces" they wanted to commit to in order to cover more orders after that date - but I agree that they are likely going to be uninterested in having a warehouse full of this sort of items "left over".
  5. For me full VO is never going to appear on any wish list of game features I'd like to see regardless of where the budget goes - I am very pleased the game is going with a similar set-up as the IE games for voicing - to me it means more dialoge and more content and more immersion in a gameworld atmosphere vs less of those features & minimal immersion in an interactive movie with full VO.
  6. Outstanding screenshot - which looks great as background on both my regular monitor and my 32" HDTV - Thanks! Also great lore tidbits - love the stretch goals - I can't wait to see this game!
  7. I voted I don't care but for the most part I prefer all my companions be part of the world - I just have no objections to having the option to create my own as well... After reading a few other posts let me go a bit further with my explaination...when I say I have no objections to having the option to create my own I should clarify that if that existed I would probably take adavantage of it at some point - probably after playing numerous run throughs with only the provided companions - I did this eventually in BG - altho I always used a mix of both - never more than 3 PCs + 3 NPCs and a few times with 2 PCs + 4 NPCs... I guess the "I don't care" part is that it won't bother me if I cannot create any companions myself.
  8. I'd use my forum name and probably try for something humorous - or a little snarky - Here lies Les Moore, Shot down with a Forty- four No Les No Moore Unlikely to reach $500 level tho unless I recieve an amazing windfall within the next few days - ( I plan to add my pledge on my birthday as a present to myself later this week and I am still debating what level it will be so if any of you would like to help me get to that $500 level I'm just a PM away )
  9. Not really another approach but perhaps a combination of more than one - I am OK with having to influence the NPC altho I suspect we won't get that since a lot of people will no doubt expect complete and total control over everything and also perhaps becuase it would be difficult and take a lot of effort to do this right - (effort that might be better spent elsewhere?) If we do get complete control I would like to see the auto-level option offered as well - I sometimes like to use this as a way to let my companions make their own choices (or at least make the choices the devs have chosen for them) thus forcing me to adapt my game to thier strengths and weaknesses and thus giving them a bit more substance and make them feel more like companions than they might have if I mold them into exactly what I want when I want. I would be OK with not having any control over their leveling as well but seriously doubt we will see that -
  10. Central (Upstate) NY State Throw a dart at the middle of NY State and thats where I'm at (if you are any good with darts...)
  11. I like the concept of real death with options for reversing it over the Knocked out/wake up and be back to normal in 5 seconds method and I'm not fond of the idea of treating PC death differently than NPC death in a party based atmosphere. As long as someone in the party lives to jump through whatever hoops are provided to raise the PC and/or others I don't want to see the game over screen. For PE it looks like we might see different death options depending on difficulty mode chosen and I like that concept.
  12. I too lean towards the idea that at least when you first encounter companions that thier choices are predefined based on their character concepts and perhaps it's only going forward that you are able to influence the choices they make at level up... However as long as there is some sort of "auto-level" I can use as a substitute (when I want the character leveled as the devs thought they should be without my interference) - I am OK with giving the player the option to level them as they see fit...
  13. I may be wrong but I seem to recall that somewhere in the talk about the game setting it may have specifically been said that the printing press was one of the technologies that had yet to be developed - if so it may well be that the reason for this was to limit the range and depth of news travel in the world in order to support the concepts of different factions/areas having a real disconnect from others (be their own little worlds). As for my take on the concept of the game making the player and his team an object of media speculation throughout the realms through any means (print or otherwise) my gut reaction is not just no but hell no but that could be just becuase I so completely loathe the whole media circus that exists today in RL and don't want to see even a smidgen of that creep into a game that I play to escape to a different time and place...
  14. I have no problem discussing mechanics and general setting but I want no information about the plot at all!
  15. Happy Birthday. But an old geezer, no. I remember Wanderon from the Neverwinter Nights 2 forum. He was in his sixties. Edit: Fixed typos. And he still is...
  16. Sings: When I get older losing my hair many days from now... - I'll be 64 in a couple weeks - favorite RPGs in the general order I played them include Return To Krondor, all the IE games, Fallout 1 & 2, NWN 1&2, DA:O & 2 . Waiting patiently for BG:EE for another IE fix while I wait for DA3 & PE.
  17. I don't think there's any plan to not offer experience from fights - they are just saying that there will often be non-combat options to choose from as well and that choosing them (and succeeding with them) will not mean less experience to you than taking the combat option.
  18. Actually I think they are telling us you will be able to focus on BOTH combat and non-combat skills seperately from one another but I never got the impression that you would be able to do "everything" surely both the combat options and the non-combat options will force some choices - you may be able to be a str based warrior with good diplomacy skills but probably not a lockpicker and herbalist and archer at the same time. I suspect the only way to become Squire Everything would only be to have relatively low levels of many skills - levels that would no doubt have limited use in higher level areas and thus lead to a very weak playing character.
  19. Perhaps some of these will be skills that only the player character can initiate - for instance it may be that a companion may be able to pick a lock but perhaps not negotiate for the group - In other words it may be that traveling companions are not going to be able to just stand in for the player character using their skill set instead of his in every situation thus not allowing the player to arbitrarily choose any companion to more or less be the player character of the moment. Obviously I have no clue whether or not this is what is intended but I suspect it's a possibility. In any event I am very pleased to hear that non-combat skills are going to rank right up there with combat skills overall. That's one way to solve it. The problem then is that those skills would more or less be useless for companions. It would be kind of strange if only the PC had the ability to be threatening or diplomatic. That's the way it was done in Mount and Blade. What happened was that the PC only focused on the skills that he was alone in being able to use while he let the companions only focus on the other skills. Well some people are always going to meta-game no matter the system and for my money it's not up to the devs to look at every design feature and attempt to either enhance or avoid the possibiltiy of doing so - since those who wish to will always find a way anyway... Then again I generally try to play these game more or less as the devs intended so I'm probably in the minority anyway

  21. I am assuming that voting for single player (custom mods) would also assume the player plays the OC as well??
  22. Pretty high - I put the first two bonus points in str but put all the rest in wis and started with 14 wis so its at least 16 and maybe 18 with items. Can't load the game right now to see but the 250 range sounds familiar. As to duplicate personal crystals no matter how you get them they are not "legit" and as I mentioned before this game is all about NOT having the light saber bonuses...
  23. Well Ali Ooops could not get past the Vrook battle on Dantooine (after helping the mercs). This is the same thing that happened to my other DS consular altho Ali Ooops was several levels higher. (Consular 15/Sith Lord 3) Once again Vrook was doing massive damage (50-80 per round) anytime my shields were down and he took them down every other round or so. Meanwhile plague has no visible effect on him (other than turning his health bar green for a round or so) and death field gives me only about 14 pts back (saved) while lightning or master force scream has little effect as well (he always saves). The H2H attacks are useless I never lay a glove on him. I reloaded 2-3 times and then just gave it up for now. Think I'll take a break from Kotor2 and go play something else for a while...
