  1. Not really another approach but perhaps a combination of more than one - I am OK with having to influence the NPC altho I suspect we won't get that since a lot of people will no doubt expect complete and total control over everything and also perhaps becuase it would be difficult and take a lot of effort to do this right - (effort that might be better spent elsewhere?) If we do get complete control I would like to see the auto-level option offered as well - I sometimes like to use this as a way to let my companions make their own choices (or at least make the choices the devs have chosen for them) thus forcing me to adapt my game to thier strengths and weaknesses and thus giving them a bit more substance and make them feel more like companions than they might have if I mold them into exactly what I want when I want. I would be OK with not having any control over their leveling as well but seriously doubt we will see that -
  2. Central (Upstate) NY State Throw a dart at the middle of NY State and thats where I'm at (if you are any good with darts...)
  3. I like the concept of real death with options for reversing it over the Knocked out/wake up and be back to normal in 5 seconds method and I'm not fond of the idea of treating PC death differently than NPC death in a party based atmosphere. As long as someone in the party lives to jump through whatever hoops are provided to raise the PC and/or others I don't want to see the game over screen. For PE it looks like we might see different death options depending on difficulty mode chosen and I like that concept.
  4. I too lean towards the idea that at least when you first encounter companions that thier choices are predefined based on their character concepts and perhaps it's only going forward that you are able to influence the choices they make at level up... However as long as there is some sort of "auto-level" I can use as a substitute (when I want the character leveled as the devs thought they should be without my interference) - I am OK with giving the player the option to level them as they see fit...
  5. I may be wrong but I seem to recall that somewhere in the talk about the game setting it may have specifically been said that the printing press was one of the technologies that had yet to be developed - if so it may well be that the reason for this was to limit the range and depth of news travel in the world in order to support the concepts of different factions/areas having a real disconnect from others (be their own little worlds). As for my take on the concept of the game making the player and his team an object of media speculation throughout the realms through any means (print or otherwise) my gut reaction is not just no but hell no but that could be just becuase I so completely loathe the whole media circus that exists today in RL and don't want to see even a smidgen of that creep into a game that I play to escape to a different time and place...
  6. I have no problem discussing mechanics and general setting but I want no information about the plot at all!
  7. Happy Birthday. But an old geezer, no. I remember Wanderon from the Neverwinter Nights 2 forum. He was in his sixties. Edit: Fixed typos. And he still is...
  8. Sings: When I get older losing my hair many days from now... - I'll be 64 in a couple weeks - favorite RPGs in the general order I played them include Return To Krondor, all the IE games, Fallout 1 & 2, NWN 1&2, DA:O & 2 . Waiting patiently for BG:EE for another IE fix while I wait for DA3 & PE.
  9. I don't think there's any plan to not offer experience from fights - they are just saying that there will often be non-combat options to choose from as well and that choosing them (and succeeding with them) will not mean less experience to you than taking the combat option.
  10. Actually I think they are telling us you will be able to focus on BOTH combat and non-combat skills seperately from one another but I never got the impression that you would be able to do "everything" surely both the combat options and the non-combat options will force some choices - you may be able to be a str based warrior with good diplomacy skills but probably not a lockpicker and herbalist and archer at the same time. I suspect the only way to become Squire Everything would only be to have relatively low levels of many skills - levels that would no doubt have limited use in higher level areas and thus lead to a very weak playing character.
  11. Perhaps some of these will be skills that only the player character can initiate - for instance it may be that a companion may be able to pick a lock but perhaps not negotiate for the group - In other words it may be that traveling companions are not going to be able to just stand in for the player character using their skill set instead of his in every situation thus not allowing the player to arbitrarily choose any companion to more or less be the player character of the moment. Obviously I have no clue whether or not this is what is intended but I suspect it's a possibility. In any event I am very pleased to hear that non-combat skills are going to rank right up there with combat skills overall. That's one way to solve it. The problem then is that those skills would more or less be useless for companions. It would be kind of strange if only the PC had the ability to be threatening or diplomatic. That's the way it was done in Mount and Blade. What happened was that the PC only focused on the skills that he was alone in being able to use while he let the companions only focus on the other skills. Well some people are always going to meta-game no matter the system and for my money it's not up to the devs to look at every design feature and attempt to either enhance or avoid the possibiltiy of doing so - since those who wish to will always find a way anyway... Then again I generally try to play these game more or less as the devs intended so I'm probably in the minority anyway

  13. I am assuming that voting for single player (custom mods) would also assume the player plays the OC as well??
  14. Pretty high - I put the first two bonus points in str but put all the rest in wis and started with 14 wis so its at least 16 and maybe 18 with items. Can't load the game right now to see but the 250 range sounds familiar. As to duplicate personal crystals no matter how you get them they are not "legit" and as I mentioned before this game is all about NOT having the light saber bonuses...
  15. Well Ali Ooops could not get past the Vrook battle on Dantooine (after helping the mercs). This is the same thing that happened to my other DS consular altho Ali Ooops was several levels higher. (Consular 15/Sith Lord 3) Once again Vrook was doing massive damage (50-80 per round) anytime my shields were down and he took them down every other round or so. Meanwhile plague has no visible effect on him (other than turning his health bar green for a round or so) and death field gives me only about 14 pts back (saved) while lightning or master force scream has little effect as well (he always saves). The H2H attacks are useless I never lay a glove on him. I reloaded 2-3 times and then just gave it up for now. Think I'll take a break from Kotor2 and go play something else for a while...
  16. Once you select a force form or lightsaber form does it remain "in effect" until you choose a different one or does it have to be "turned on" for each battle or even each enemy?
  17. @ Cassidy! Good to see ya too! I suspect the main differences between Ali Ooops and your Consular/Jedi Master is you didn't need to boost str and had more points to put in wis.cha dex without totally nerfing int like I did... @Darth Zonos have not been using them but now have force channel and force potency to play with and I will see how well they work for me. @Marka Ragnos - the whole point of this campaign is to survive and conquer WITHOUT the light saber bonuses... " As for having several lightsabers with your own personal crystal - not unless you cheat - you only get one personal crystal Update on Ali Ooops progress: Finished Nar Shadaa with only a single reload from party death (used a few getting over bugs with Twin Suns and Atton) - the one from party death was from Atton and Kreia on Gotos ship and did not have Ali Ooops in party at the time. Made Atton a Jedi and built a lightsaber for him but he has not used it yet. Have moved on to Dantooine where I gained a few more DS points at the expense of the salvagers and finally managed to get my prestige class (Sith Lord). I am attempting to do Dantooine with AK-47 and Goto for companions. I trained AK 47 in demolitionsand Goto can handle the computer and security work but I am finding them a pain to keep healthy and of no help if I fall which led to my last reload when we got too ambitious with the Laigreks and I died and the two droids couldn't finish them off before dying. I will have to be much more cautious if I want to play with droids for back-up. Otherwise the H2H is quite effective - with my current levels and items he's at +24 and 10-25 damage altho defense is still an issue at 26 and I have to keep a close eye on his vps and switch to drain life before he gets too low especially if he's surrounded. But He had no trouble at Jekk Jekk Tar and I only had the wookie go straight to the exit and let him in so he took out the rest of the Ubese there and quite easily. The Jedi on Nar Shadaa didn't even raise a sweat on him...
  18. Ahhh.. perhaps I am not quite dark enough as I managed to gain a few LS points recently - I'm pretty sure I can fix that pretty quickly...
  19. My Consular is level 15 and ready to level up again and I can't seem to get Kreia to offer the prestige class. Do I have to meet other requirements like travel to other planets for instance? So far we have only been to Nar Shadaa after leaving Atris. I have spoken to her several times since I have become ready to level up both on and off the ship...
  20. Well I paid the price for my boasting - the tank droid did in fact kick our patooties the first time we faced him and as it turned out I had not saved since before we entered the hangar room which was a bit annoying... :"> We used the powerword "reload" spell and spanked him good the second time - Ali Ooops staying back a little and using force powers rather than trying to slap it around... We had a little trouble with the mercenaries at the site as well and Bao-doh and Kriea had to finish off the large group on the beach after Ali Ooops bit the dust, The group at the site was a PITA as well since I wasn't paying attention and allowed the party to engage the whole lot of them right ofter we finished the first wave (running over to the ones on the far side instead of carefully only engaging one group at a time). Part of this may be due to the fact that I've turned all the auto pause features off... We didn't fare well with the HK-50s either causing the second reload of the game. A little too full of ourselves the first time (after all we had just taken down a tank - usually I shield everyone immediately then start taking them down but part of the trouble is indeed related to running up and slapping them drawing fire from all three at once and part of the trouble is the lousy robes available so far. I usually find Zeison armor on Peragus or Citadel Station but this time I did not and only have some Matukai apprentice robes that do not allow any upgrades at all so combinerd with my poor dex I only have a defense of 18 at the moment. Maybe I can snag a better robe here at Atris' playgorund before we take off. I have always gone to Dantooine right after Atris before but since there is no reason to worry about light sabers and crystals I think we may make a different choice and head to Nar Shadaa instead. I would try Korriban but I don;t think we are quite ready for that... Ali Ooops lack of skills cost some more exp on Citadel so he is only level 11 now as we entered Atris lair. It took until level 10 to get a single point in every skill (after starting off by putting 4 in Treat Injury). All in all tho he's exceeded my expectations and I think he may have a chance to complete the game...
  21. Actually I do and in my last game I sent Bao-doh against it using H2H so I guess theres no reason my PC can't do the same... The bigger they are...well you know the rest...
  22. I think that there may be some truth to that as well altho for my two most current games it will be less so becuase one is a F LS consular using blasters and force powers only and the other is a M DS consular using H2H and force powers only so none of those light saber crystal boosts will apply to either of them... (w00t)
  23. I think the only argument against wisdom being the more important of the two is that for most characters who use everything available to them (unlike my H2H & force power only build) you don't really NEED the extra force points. My Guardian for example had only 12 wis (base) and still of plenty of fps altho I admit that for a consular this is more important and I tend to agree that wisdom is probably the more important of the two!
